  • @red3ye I totally get it. My mom has been a shitty mom my entire life and totally gave up on me until she found out I was pregnant and now wants to be all butt hurt when I don't want her around my son or there when I give birth? She got pissed today when I said I didn't want ANYONE other than dh at the hospital since I'll be recovering from surgery and learning to breast feed. Um, excuse me. Last time I checked, we're the mommas and THEY have to follow OUR rules. Be strong and firm and hang in there!

Doctor gave me the all clear for Disneyworld and flying, but he was super vague about what I can do as far as rides go. Any suggestions? As far as Google tells me, people have done all spectrums at 20 weeks and turned out fine. Just need some other opinions here!

  • @{{hugs}} @red3ye i am sorry your mom is extra sucking right now. but your plan is solid.

@skruhmin, naturally my firstborn has had the largest head so far. like when he was 2 i had to return the size 2-4y hat and get him the one for 6-8y. why does the baby with the biggest head have to be the first one?! LOL

  • @oceanchild our DS is the same.  His head size has been 100th percentile from day 1 (ouch).  At 6 months he was in 2 year hats.  It infuriates my MIL to no end because she buys them and they are always too small.  It's probably not good that her frustration makes me smile :)
  • so i am super bummed out today. my brother (the one we got a surprise visit from when i went to my parents' house 2 wknds ago) took off from his job for 3 weeks so that he could visit with family. we were only there for the weekend, so we got to see him for 2 days and that was awesome. we live two hours from my parents. he told me he would come over and visit just us for a few days. the last week of his vacation he was planning on going to VA to see our other family, and to CT (idk why). so i messaged him and texted him and called him and he never responded. (not unusal for him - he sucks at staying in touch, as do i). but i needed to know when he was coming. i finally talked to my mom tues night, and she said he was just planning on coming over thurs during the day. (of course that is the one day of the week we always have day and evening plans, but NBD i will cancel for him, but not enough notice for husnad to get off work for the visit). still no replies from him yesterday. then i talk to my mom this morning and she says she thinks he not coming over bc he is still in bed (stayed up late) and he is leaving for VA tomorrow. my kids were looking forward to seeing him again. *i WAS.* i just want to cry, i am so disappointed. i love him and we rarely see him. mom tells me that he is coming back for Xmas break and "it will be here before you know it!" screw that man. i don't WANT Xmas here before i know it; i want my brother NOW, like i told my kids. i told husband and he was like "well just try to be happy that you got to see him at all." i am, but that still doesn't change the fact that my feelings are really hurt that he couldn't come over here and see us. WTF did he do for 2 weeks? play chess on the ipad? :((

  • @oceanchild I'm so sorry. This reminds me a lot of my brother. He has been in the process of doing a lot of growing up over the last few years and along the way has broken a lot of promises to me and my son. It's hard because I know he just lays around watching baseball and drinking beers...and then I don't get to see him because he sleeps all day. Sometimes family just plain sucks. :(

  • @2goofykids feel better? I had a nasty one a couple of weeks ago but my new meds seem to be keeping me clear... being sick is never fun

So my BFF's due date was tues.... yesterday her midwife did a sweep and broke her waters (quite rare... poor midwife was shocked).... at that point she was 2cm

no labor 24 hours later but today she was now required to go to the hospital where she waited 5 hours for a bed (even though they had booked for her yesterday)....

Finally she got a pessary and they said that may take 24h to kick in.... Needless to say she is not amused. When I asked if the hospital (the one I have to deliver in) was more prison or hotel she classes it as "halfway house".... I go to uni on the server campus so will be delivering McDonalds refreshments for lunch if she is still permitted to eat.... and so I can scope out the digs

At what point does one schedule a tour of their hospital?

Ours only does a tour if you take their free parenting classes.... I am in anot her private set of classes so this is my back door!

You could schedule anytime.  I called up the hospital and signed up for a tour - they did kind of an orientation class.  I believe they did these once a month.  I'd say do it sooner rather than later since you'll be the most comfortable now and standing isn't too bad.

I think I was around 32 weeks but I would say do it whenever. Ours did them every two weeks. You just signed up online and they did a quick orientation and showed you around. I would def recommend it to feel more comfortable. I am glad I will be delivering this baby at the same hopsital as DS. I was there for two weeks due to some bed rest before delivery and really loved the hospital and nurses.

  • @flowerpower5838 We got to take a tour of the hospital as part of our birthing class we did with the first baby.  Or you can call and schedule one.  We did our birthing class/tour at around 30 weeks, I think, but some people do 25 weeks, and some wait til 35 weeks.

Just got back from the doctor's office to finally figure out what's been making me sick off and on (low grade fevers randomly for the last few weeks, and this week started a nasty cough).  Took DS with me, and he was a mess (trying to get your blood pressure taken with a screaming squirming 18 month old in your lap..) but once we got to the exam room I finally remembered my phone and played some Oliver Discovers for him.  I don't ever let him watch anything on my phone or play with it, but those rare moments when I need focus and some slight tranquility, nothing works like Oliver.  And the doctor was so sweet - he held my LO's cheerio mug while we talked, and he even commented on just how big his head is lol.

i would think whenever you want to. you are deciding if you want to use their facilities and give them your money, they should want to accommodate you. idk how other places work of course, but our hospital you can visit any time. even though i was planning a homebirth with my first baby (i had a hospital birth anyway) i just went in one day and went to L&D and told them i was pregnant, and was there someone available to show me around, or did i need to schedule an appointment? a charge nurse showed me around right then. if you are taking any kind of birth or parenting class at your hospital, a tour of the unit is often part of the class.

  • Anyone have a good recipe for shredded chicken that maybe doesn't require shredding by hand?
  • @flowerpower5838 at my hospital they give tours of the birth centre once a month, on the third weekend or something. It's not too well advertised, maybe your hospital does something similar?

Also, anyone know what the deal is with deleting threads? I though it was impossible! Last night someone posted a 'guess my baby's sex for fun' thread which was headed the usual way but this morning it was gone without a trace. How does this happen??

I usually put a couple of chicken breasts in the crock pot with chicken stock and leave on low all day.  Shred by fork at the end of the day (no touching needed).  If you have a food processor, you can use that too.  I've also seen people do it with a mixer.

I second the crock pot. It's been the easiest for me. Just use two forks and start pulling - it's just that easy.

You're telling me.  The cough plus the size of DS's head... I pee myself at least once every hour.  It becomes very obvious when you walk down a  hall and half to cross your legs to cough... lol.  Pelvic floor therapy is on my list after this one is born.
  • @MrsLeanMeanClean I like the way you think. I'll definitely try the crock pot next time, but tonight I'm going for the store chicken. Super easy. Plus, I've got a serious hankering for funyuns and yoohoo....
