You should have it since we're considered to be a part of the immune compromised population. As are the HIV patients, the elderly and babies. What are your reservations?
I declined the flu shot only because I had one years ago and had a severe allergic reaction and ended up in hospital. I still also got the flu anyway that season by the way.
I won't be getting it. I have never had the flu shot in my 29 years and have suffered a couple days of having the flu every couple years and I survived. My OB has not recommended thus far.
My immune system is shot, so my doctor has recommended it. I don't really mind it, it doesn't make me sick, I've never had a reaction to it, so yes. Herd immunity! It's important!
Nope, not gonna do it. If you read the pamphlet that comes with it, it says it's essentially class c which means not enough studies have been done on the safety of getting it while pregnant. I really don't want me or my baby to be test dummies. You can actually look up the pamphlets on the internet.

Yes, I am. 1. I am a scientist (I work in Pharma making vaccines) & they are completely safe (if they weren't, the FDA wouldn't approve them). 2. My doctor told me to get one (why would she say to if it was dangerous?). 3. Pregnant women have a higher risk of serious complications from the flu than the general population. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/qa_vacpregnant.htm
The FDA also says Tylenol is safe but it's also the number one contributer to acute liver failure in people.
I don't get the flu shot because I had a severe allergic reaction to it years ago where I almost died but if you are comfortable getting it then by all means I'll take the herd immunity.
As my MIL says you have A doctors and C doctors basically some are better than others. I personally like to do my own research and come to my own conclusions without just blindly following a doctor or FDAs orders.
Vaccines can be harmful to some people that is why the federal government has a vaccine daamage fund where if you or your child is hurt or killed by a vaccine you can put in a claim to get reparations from the government. My oldest son had an allergic reaction to the Hep B vaccine it caused neurological issues that complicated his speech and because of that we had file a claim and my other son had to be allergy tested before he got the Hep B vaccine.
All you have to do is look at the pamphlet that the pediatrician gives you when you child gets a vaccine it tells you if the side effects in which they always state death can be one. So like everything else in life vaccines are not completely safe. Yes they are useful and helpful and keep most people healthy but they are not without problems. Everyone needs to make their own educated decision.
I tend to follow my doctors advice because I don't think my google research is the same as med school, residency, and the daily practice of medicine. I also wouldn't stick with a doctor who I thought was a 'C' doctor.
Yes there are some valid reasons to not get the flu shot, but I think the actual valid reasons are few and far between. Even if you think the flu shot isn't safe for pregnant women, the flu itself isn't either.
Class C means it hasn't been studied in humans, but benefits are believed to outweigh the risks, not that it isn't safe.
And lastly, like PP pointed out, nothing is completely safe. But I want to give myself and my baby as much protection as possible.
Yes, I got it at my last appointment. My doctor highly recommended it because the flu can be more dangerous for pregnant women (and my daughter is in Pre-K so my chance of being exposed is pretty good).
I agree you should definitely research what class C means before blindly following the herd of no-vaccinations. A quick Google search does not equate to scholarly databases like Pubmed, etc. and finding the best available evidence in the studies on vaccines.
Vaccines can cause side effects in some people but the benefits highly beat out the risks. That's all.
The FDA also says Tylenol is safe but it's also the number one contributer to acute liver failure in people.
Yes, that's if you have an overdose (like 10g)! Not if you take a normal dose.
I don't get the flu shot because I had a severe allergic reaction to it years ago where I almost died but if you are comfortable getting it then by all means I'll take the herd immunity.
Obviously you shouldn't take it if you've already had an allergic reaction, but anyone can get an allergic reaction to literally anything...food, makeup, dust, fungus, etc...so it shouldn't deter anyone.
As my MIL says you have A doctors and C doctors basically some are better than others.
Yes and the A doctors will tell you to get vaccinated.
I personally like to do my own research and come to my own conclusions without just blindly following a doctor or FDAs orders.
Agreed...as I said, I'm a scientist, so I literally do my own research and don't blindly follow anyone. Vaccines can be harmful to some people that is why the federal government has a vaccine daamage fund where if you or your child is hurt or killed by a vaccine you can put in a claim to get reparations from the government. Agreed...there is an inherent risk in everything you do in life. In fact, it is a huge risk to NOT vaccinate. An average of 32,000 people die (and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized) every year from the flu. So, it seems obvious that the slight risk one might have from a possible allergy is way less than the risk of death/hospitalization.
Yes they are useful and helpful and keep most people healthy but they are not without problems. Everyone needs to make their own educated decision.
Well considering I wore my t-shirt that says "vaccines save, bro", while out running errands yesterday; I'm sure you can tell what my stance is regarding the flu shot.
March 2016 Moms: January Siggy Challenge "Pregnancy Problems"
I only get the flu shot when I'm pregnant and I got it at my last appointment. Up until a few months ago, I worked in ems and was around sick people all the time. I never got the flu shot before because I guess I have a good immune system. I always took the chance of getting sick but not when I'm pregnant.
My thing is everyone should do research and I don't mean Dr Google. I'm talking medical journals, talking to doctors, CDC paper, etc. Its important to be educated. I'm not anti vaccine my kids have their vaccinations although on a delayed schedule because we have to test for allergies within certain vaccines but with my family history of allergies I learned to do my research and take precautions before getting a new vaccine. Like I said I'm allergic to the flu vaccine I almost lost my life because of it. I was hospitalized for two weeks my lungs filled with fluid and I was in and out of conscientiousness so for me and my kids they will never get the flu vaccine because of my allergy no doctor wants to take the risk that they but I'm all for herd immunity so if people can and willing to get the flu vaccine I say go for it but again it's something everyone has to decide for themselves and their families.
I got the flu shot. It was too risky to go without it. I work with the homeless and school children. I got it yesterday and so far so good. I got the inactive version right in my obgyn office. My doc said if you had the flu shot before you should be ok. You should talk to your Dr with any concerns and make sure you get it at your obgyn office so they have it on your reccords that you had it.
Hi there just checking to see if anyone took the flu vaccine? My doc recommended it but I have some reservations about the injection.
Hey Naji.. Nope. Did not and will not take it. My doctor was ok with my decision. I'm eating well, staying active and taking vitamins. I work with children and have not gotten sick from them so my immunity is kicking ass!!

Do u think your allergies to flu vaccine might be an evolutionary mutation that is trying to say the immune system can handle viruses without man made vaccines? It looks like people are so dependent on vaccines and not focused on building a natural healthy immunity. I agree, each individual should do their own research, let's not forget doctors get paid to prescribe and for giving shots. There is a profit game at play.
You never know but I'm not a geneticist but I do think vaccines have helped save many lives but I believe we give to many to quickly to little bodies. I regret not doing more research with my first son I feel like if I did I could have prevented him from being hurt from his Hep B vaccine had I just done a bit more research. I'm an advocate of everyone getting informed the right way.
While I respect your profession and your stance on vaccines, there is SO much wrong with your first two points. The FDA approves SO MANY things, its hard to say that they are all "safe", and although your doctor has your best interest at heart, you cannot blindly follow their commands without questioning anything. I would suggest to anyone your own research and truly look into every aspect, not just what the CDC and FDA say, because they are virtually one unit with the same motive.

You mean trying to keep the public healthy despite the publics best attempts otherwise?

What motive? They are NOT for-profit agencies! Their only motive is the health of the nation and the world at large.

What?! Natural immunity only goes so far... Have you heard of the 1918 flu pandemic that killed 50-100 million HEALTHY young adults? Viruses have been slaughtering people (and animals and plants) in mass since the beginning of life on earth and it's only been since the creation of vaccines that we privileged westerners have had the LUXURY to even debate their usefulness. If you were living through a pandemic that was killing all your children and neighbors, I think you'd quickly change your tune.
Considering that Pharmaceutical lobbyist give a lot of money to our politicians and they are not non profit I'll continue to do my own research to make informed decisions. The day Pharmaceutical companies drop all their patents and give up their money grubbing ways then maybe I'll listen to some of their advice. Lobbyist control our government and to be elected or reelected you do not piss off the hand that gives you money this is why so many drugs get through the FDA even through they are not throughly tested then years later after hurting a significant amount of people do they finally pull it back.

You might have a point if vaccines made money. As it is, they make about 2-3% of pharmaceuticals profit.
Hell, from a purely business stand point, you not vaccinating and then having to take medicine to cure your completely preventable illness is far more profitable to them. So, good job.

Oh I agree and I'm not anti vaccine but the flu shot almost killed me I'm just an advocate for people doing their due diligence not just blindly following anything in life.

But due dilligence is talking to your doctor about your individual medical history and possibility of allergies, not googling "Is the flu vaccine safe?" and clicking on "Earth Mothers Holistic Crystaled Herbs" or " BIG PHARMA IS POISONING YOU". There are many things the internet is great for, asking for accurate and unbiased medical advice isn't one of them.

That is what I was saying when I talked about research talk to your doctor look up medical journals get more than one opinion on things. I don't believe in doctor Google but informing yourself is the best thing you can do.
I got the shot. about a month ago I had a severe sinus infection and i felt lIke I was DYING!! I have never gotten the flu shot, but at that point I was soooooo ready for it cause if I felt that bad with a sinus infection, I was really gonna feel like death with the flu!
Being a Type 1 Diabetic I already have a weakened immune system so I chose to get it. I also work in healthcare so it comes at me multiple times a year. The simple fact that I can't really call out when sick was enough motivation for me to try to prevent getting the flu (or at least a terrible episode of it). I haven't ever had an allergic reaction to it or any other medical reason not to.

"So many drugs" don't get through the FDA. Only ~1 in 5000 drugs in research actually make it market and it takes ~12 years for a drug to be approved. A drug costs ~$2 billion dollars to make and the company only has 20 years to make up that cost before the patent runs out. It's not money grubbing, it's just a very expensive product to develop. And yes, sometimes we learn later that certain medications cause unintended complications, but it's very rare because they are in fact very thoroughly tested and heavily regulated by the FDA.
