Nighttime still sucks........

Re: Nighttime still sucks........

  • We've been in the Merlin for two weeks now- it was a hand me down so it's not as stiff as new since its been worn. The first week did great but past few nights she's been waking up twice other than the middle night feed. Not sure what's up with that. She's 15 weeks now. Give it time, I'm a believer so far and she can't move her hands to her mouth.

  • Can** move hands
  • Two nights of the Merlin and the longest stretch I got was 3 hours. Same with the zipadee zip. Ugh.
  • @momtobe613 @klkonwi some genius in scheduling put me on 4 nights in a row, one night off, two nights on. Looking forward to next Thursday.

  • We did ok last night in the merlin. Down at 9, up at 3 and 5. . .which is our new normal over the past few weeks. But she didn't rage against it like she does a swaddle, so I count that as a win

4 in a row?! Dang. That's awful. 3 in a row is bad enough.

  • @klkonwi I hope you get some sleep before this three in a row. I'm surviving on coffee and now drinking a coke. I'm sure this will help my supply significantly
  • @dancegurl1118 what kind of genius did that??? Four on is tough without baby. Good thing they have you that whole one day off in between for two more. People are so dumb.
  • @dancegurl1118 ugh ! 4 ? Not okay.
Maybe speak to your boss and say for breastfeeding/pumping reasons that will not work.
  • LO is four months today, and the time has come! We're cribbing it tonight. I'm terrified of no sleep but it has to be done.

Good luck! Think happy thoughts, maybe it won't be so bad! Lo lived her crib from night one (thank god). I was scared to move from the bassinet for no reason. It can happen!

What the actual eff? Even without a baby at home that's a crappy schedule. [-X

  • Why is my lo not consistent? Slept 9 hours last night and tonight 5 before waking up and she's been up for an hour already and won't go back to sleep.
  • Wide awake and super congested at 4am. The STTN streak ends at 2. I have the day off today...and I won't even get to sleep in past my normal 5am wake up time. Booooo.
  • His new 'thing' now it to move and thrash about in his sleep so much it wakes me up. Then once I am completely awake and can't doze back off again easily, he goes quiet. I know that's nothing compared to what a lot of your guys are dealing with, so I count my blessings there. But, bleh.

  • We're officially in the 4 month sleep regression. I remember this well from DS. The problem is that she isn't 4 months yet and I can't in good conscious sleep train a baby this young! I think she's probably ready developmentally but I just won't risk it in case she's not. We all just have to suck it up for a couple more weeks.

At least DS had the courtesy to wait until he was 4.5 months to go through his sleep regression. ;)
  • LO was up from 4-5:30 this morning. He wasn't happy, wasn't upset, just WIRED. We tried everything, and finally I brought him downstairs, walked around in the dark for a bit, then patted his butt and he passed out in about 10 minutes.

I think I need to stop eating broccoli because the gas seems to get him :-(

This is exactly us! LO is 4 months next Thursday. Are you going to try to sleep train her at 4 months?
  • @Sjeff0816 I don't know. Probably. She's totally different than DS so I don't know if CIO will work as quickly. If we go more than 2 nights with no improvement, we'll try something else. With DS, it was a fight to get him to go to sleep but MOTN was easy. With LO, she will fall asleep on her own but can't go back to sleep. And her crying in the MOTN will wake DS and then we will have 2 to deal with. Why is it so hard to sleep baby?!
  • Tried Merlin sleep suit last night. Put LO down at 9:30 and he woke up to eat 2x before 11 so I figured we were in for a long night. Then he slept straight to 6am, ate and went right back to sleep until 8am. Could have been a fluke so we'll see how he does tonight. Suit hasn't really helped improve naps today but at least he is sleeping about as well as he did in the swaddle so I'll still call it a win.
  • First night in the merlin sleepsuit. I actually put him down drowsy (granted, it was pretty drowsy, but he was still awake) vs when I used his swaddle sleepsack I would rock him until he fell asleep then did a transfer. And the reason he went down drowsy was because I thought he would've been asleep by then but when I moved him he woke up and looked around, he must've been on the verge. Well, we will see how it goes tonight, won't we?

P.s. - he looks so ridiculous in it, its so funny. Its a bit too big for him so his feet don't out the bottom

  • @mellymar I think this calls for a picture!

  • Holy 4 month sleep regression! I pray tonight is just a fluke and this doesn't continue! I'm sick as a dog and he's woken up every hour and will not settle unless being nursed. I really need some sleep to kick this cold, ugh :((
  • On two of four. Yikes. It definitely sucks for breastfeeding but she is having trouble eating anyway with her cold so at least I know she's eating and not struggling as she is at the breast lately. I'm just tired. And I just had a long 8 hours and now they're making me float to our other unit for the last 4 just because my patient delivered first. I'm irrationally angry about it.

  • Good news: I think LO's cold is finally breaking up

Bad news: it's causing get coughing fits at night and they were bad enough to wake her up at 1230 and again at 545...and she decided 545 was as good a time as any to be awake. And dh decided he should sleep until 7 while I dealt with her for some reason, even though I have to get up at 5am all week long (he sleeps until whenever lo wakes up during the week). Sigh.
  • Since I should be sleeping and this counts as my night time...LO apparently has croup according to the doctor hearing her cough over the phone. Her breathing is so wheezy and labored and her cries are so weak. I'm waiting until 9 to call for an appointment as the on call Doctor couldn't give me one but just told me to go sit with her in the steamy bathroom. Ugh. I am beyond tired. And DH seems incapable of dealing with this.

  • @mellymar I think this calls for a picture!

I tried to take one but it was too dim in the room and I didn't want to turn on a brighter light or use the flash. I'll wait to turn out the bright light tonight until after he is in it so I can get a photo. I have to send one to DH anyway

  • My T&P are with you @dancegurl1118. Hopefully the croup will clear up fast. The barking seal cough always sounds so bad. If you can, a humidifier by the bed/crib always does wonders for us. Also breathing in cold air helps. It reduces the swelling a little. Good luck at the doc.
  • @dancegurl1118 oh no! I hope you get in to see the Dr soon and LO starts to improve!

I just feel really really bad for those of you dealing with LOs who are sick.

  • @dancegurl1118 Oh no! Great timing for her being sick........ I feel bad for both you ladies! :) poor girl.
Also....... When they make me float to med surg I get real cranky and I'm a total jerk.
  • So sorry to all of you with sick babies. Hope they feel better fast!

  • Yeah definitely croup. And I went to sleep and DH was like "she just wouldn't take her medicine". Ok yes she's a baby and doesn't want something that tastes bad but she needs it to breathe so figure it out...so mad that she already missed a dose bc he's incompetent.

  • @dancegurl1118 SMH. Sorry DH failed on that front. Hope baby girl gets better soon, and you don't kill DH meantime. Big hugs, you're having a WEEK.
  • I really post all this out of frustration. I'm exhausted and the croup is just the icing on the cake, especially bc I'm not able to be home with her. DH is doing the best he can having no experience and I can only imagine he is nervous and scared about messing things up. I'm kind of an asshole so he's probably terrified. Ahhhhhh. Sometimes I'm nice. I need to get back to that.

  • The dog just crapped on my carpet in our bedroom. After cleaning and scrubbing it still smells like poop. LO just woke up from all the commotion so hopefully the smell will be gone when I get done nursing her. Of all the times to not bark or whine at me?!? Make an effort Toby! I know you're an old dog....but yee gods, this is where I sleep man! :-&
  • @dancegurl1118 Hope he gets better soon. DH is getting thrown in the deep end but think how easy regular days will seem to him after
  • Question- on the weekends do you let your LO keep sleeping past their normal wake up time or do you stir them up? I've read waking up at a consistent time is more important than the time going to sleep. It's 7:23 and she should be awake at 6:30.

And she's not 4 months but I swear she's hitting the regression early. Past four nights have been awful.
