Nighttime still sucks........

  • Lucie's List had a newsletter a month or more ago that said if you can do the "put baby down drowsy not asleep" by four months, the rest doesn't matter and you're on track for easier sleep training or habits or whathaveyou, after the 4 month regression. So the one thing I can say is that 9/10x LO will put himself the rest of the way to sleep, in his bed.

I'm guilty of letting LO nurse to sleep. I'm paranoid about cutting him off from eating, given his small size/slow-ish growth. What's helped me transition is the Merlin sleep suit. It's impossible to put that thing on without LO waking up a little. While that's a big user complaint in the reviews, I've found it to be a positive, because it forces me to put LO down drowsy.

Now to get him to nap somewhere besides his swing or carseat... :(

  • 20 days left for me in Events... It's been interesting lol
  • My Merlin suit arrives tomorrow too. The zipadee zip isn't working too well....sleeping In the bed with me is. Can't have this continue.

@dancegurl1118 and @ciennah99 I could just kiss you. Thank you for those awesome words of wisdom (and the Dr Sears book recommendation. I love his style and have been wondering which sleep book to read, if any).

I will just plan to hang on til we see the pediatrician. I am only anxious about LO's sleep because I see so many other babies STTN. So I need to realize we are FINE and stop comparing. Easier said than done. I need to take my own advice!!

The way I look at it our biggest prob with LO not STTN is we are TIRED! But if we can handle it everything will work out. There's so much of life that's out of our control. But they won't still be doing this at age 18, it's just temporary. Looking at how much some of the other babies eat while mom is working it's no wonder my LO is hungry at night. She only ate 7.5 oz today at daycare. Little stinker!
  • I'm at 26 on events. Mood swings - oh yes! Oven fan is our new BFF now.

For those that prefer not to co-sleep, I stressed out at first ab LO & I falling asleep side lying, but a coworker put it in perspective. (This was after discussing coworker's that have older kids in bed & how she is anti bed sharing) She reminded me that I have an infant who is nursing still. As long as I plan on her being in a separate bed most of the time now and especially when they can start to relate mom & dad's bed with sleep, I should be okay. Sometimes things like that are nice to hear. I do what PP said & let her either fall asleep with me & transfer or fall asleep at the 3 am feeding with her next to me.

Although I wonder when these habits of "mom's bed" start to solidify? Clearly not at 4 months, but still. I don't want to have to lay with her in her bed EVERY night to get her asleep as a toddler either...

Babies be babies & it's all a guessing game.

  • haven't seen 12:30 in a while...

I was just going to say this. Unsure as to whether this is because of her cold or we're starting the 4 month regression at 15 weeks, but this is the earliest MOTN feed we've had in a while. Hopefully it's the only one tonight.
  • I'm at 14.5 weeks and LO has been getting up 2-3 times a night again and even when she's sleeping it's not a deep sleep ugh i hope this doesn't go on for weeks !
  • And up again...it's been at l east a month since we were last up more than once a night. She keeps coughing so I'm still not sure if this is the cold or sleep regression (or the effing 3.5 hour nap daycare let her take yesterday) but I need to be up for the day in 90 minutes and I'm not impressed with the maybe 4 broken hours of sleep I'll be getting tonight.

Humidifier is on now, even though it's around 50% humidity in here due to the current weather...maybe that will help. Sigh.
  • Sorry my grammar is awful tonight because it's 430 am lol
  • Last night lo ate pretty crappy so I'm hoping that's why she was up at 12:30. She are for 10 minutes and then passed out until 6:40. I have a cold and she has been stuffy for a few days but seems to be way better now. It sucks
  • There's a 3 month growth spurt right?  I'm starting to think that's what I was dealing with last night.  LO generally wakes up and puts herself back to sleep several times a night and only fusses if she wants to eat.  She woke up twice last night fussing (12:30am and 3am) and ate a lot both times.  She also had both sides before bedtime and 22oz in bottles during the day.  She slept through the night (8pm-6am) Sunday night and usually does either that or wakes once between 1-3am to eat before sleeping until 7:30.  Last night she went down at 7:30 was up at 12:30, up at 3, and then up for the day at 6.  I'm tired.

So I guess I'm adding a possibility to what is going on right now: it's her cold (the 3am wake up was preceded by a coughing fit), it's the 4 month regression a few weeks early, it's the effing 3.5 hour nap daycare let her take yesterday, or it's a growth spurt.  I'm praying for "3.5 hour nap" or "growth spurt" because those sound like they'd affect me for the least amount of nights.

My boobs are so confused that when I woke up at 5 I only got 2oz total out of them both.  Monday I got 9oz.  So it's possible she took somewhere around 7oz during the night, which is kind of a lot considering how much she ate during the day yesterday.

  • I've read lots of babes are waking up in the middle of the night and mums are unsure if it's because they're hungry or not. My LO often wakes up in the night between feedings too, and although I burp him after nursing, as soon as I pick him up and bounce him or pat his back for a minute or two another burp comes out. Then I can set him back down and he falls back into a deep sleep.
  • I just took Benadryl because I'm sick of my body struggling to get to sleep. It was probably a dumb move....... I took it at 230 am........ And it still hasn't kicked in yet. Praying DH steps up at 430/5 am to feed LO.

You would think if someone was tired enough that they could sleep!!! Brings me back to the ol' pregnancy insomnia days............. Nope nope nope
  • My Mom is watching LO until daycare starts in 2 weeks- she said she was fussy all day. she was up 4x times last night. I fed her at normal MOTN feed and the rest tried to rock her and settle her. She finally settled around 330, so I shut her door and ours- woke up at 5:45 to get ready for work and she's just a crying away! Almost 15 weeks- what the heck happened baby??

  • @jesshrou @mellymar @dancegurl1118 I bought a used one, haven't tried it yet but I was wondering how stiff is the material? Mine seems kind of flimsy. I don't know if that's how they are or because it's used.

We co-slept for the first 7 weeks and loved it. Didn't plan on co-sleeping, but we found that it worked best for us. I couldn't have told you how many times Hazel woke to feed, or for how long. I felt fully rested every day.

DH had surgery and began pain meds. We transitioned her to her bassinet for nighttime and her crib for naps. We crafted a routine for sleep and she took to it beautifully : bath, swaddle, white noise, etc. At night, she wakes every 3 hrs to feed.

She is 11 weeks old now, and I feel like I haven't slept since we switched her to her bassinet and crib!!! I have nightmares that she has been taken from me, even though I know that is irrational and that she is within arm's reach. It takes Forever to put her to sleep (she wakes up when I put her down, we have to repeat 3-4 times). I loathe the white noise. Getting up to remove her from the bassinet is incredibly disruptive. As far as she is concerned, she now has to cry to wake me up (whereas before I would wake at the slightest sound), and she cries in her sleep (which she never did before), and she wakes up crying. She fusses more during the day.

I tried to switch back to cosleeping the other night, but now she is hooked on the swaddle. Does anyone have advice to help me transition to cosleeping?

I have the micro fleece. It's not stiff. He can bend his elbows. I have him just in a onsie though bc I don't want him to get too hot in there.

Its fairly stiff right now, its folded in half at the waist and I feel like if I hold it at the waist the arms will still stick out on their own instead of flopping down like a regular shirt (I have not actually tested this, so this is totally a guess on my part). But, remember, I haven't washed mine yet. For all I know, it will loosen up a lot once I do. Reviews online said that baby was still able to bring their hands to their mouth to self soothe, so I don't think its meant to be super stiff, just that it feels 'weighted'? I also have the microfleece one

Yes arms and legs don't really move when off the baby. Weighted is a good term. My husband said he needs a helmet and he's all set for space lol. I think it's more the kid from Christmas story.

I've washed mine twice now and the sleeves still stick out. The only thing I would recommend is not to dry the suit, I know it says you can dry on low but mine shrank just a little bit. I now remove from wash, unzip, and lay flat to dry.
  • ^^ good to know. Mine looks big for my LO (who I'm beginning to get the impression is a tad smaller than average, or at least no more than just average). Maybe I'll air dry it first and then if its still big I'll dry it once to see if I can shrink it down

  • I ended up taking a 2 1/2 hour nap today with LO and DS. I needed it after being up five times last night with both kids. The only problem? I woke up at 6pm. Now I'm not tired. Thinking sleepy thoughts.

I dried mine on low and it seemed to do ok. It took like 2 hours to dry though!
