@pfafflin714 - I love feta on my salads, and I haven't yet found feta in a grocery store that isn't pasteurized. I haven't purchased queso fresco in a while but I'm guessing it would also be safe. However, I won't be buying cheeses from the flea markets we go to occasionally in the Rio Grande Valley, which is right on the border of Mexico. It's usually marked pretty clearly on the packages.
Yesterday I went to my first prenatal class and the subject came up of drinking. I don't drink anyways so it's not a big deal to me. We watched a video that told of all the risks of drinking even 1 beer here or there. Just doesn't seem worth it to me. Google the risks maybe?
@mclovinit - Dr. Google consistently tells my patients with allergies that they have Stage IV cancer and that vaccines cause Autism and mercury poisoning so...I think I'll stick to my occasional single guilt-free drink.

Dude the worst is web md. If we have a patient who thinks they have an illness and they look up their symptoms on web md they convince themselves they have cancer and come in to tell us what they "know" they have. Smh !!! Makes everything a crisis ! However for me I'm still not drinking at all being that I only had a few a month before it's no biggie .
My best friend would have a glass of wine here and there. I just can't bring myself to do it even if I'm craving it. There's so much that can go wrong during pregnancy even when you do everything right so I personally can't bring myself to do something I know has risk associated. The baby and its health/development is far more important to me than my occasional craving for wine. No judgement though just my reasoning.
Last pregnancy, according to DH, i was freaking out about every little thing from food to sleep to work and anything and everything. DH actually thinks I was overstressing and tiring myself out on what I can/can't do/wat. I lost the bb in a mmc so this time I've decided to relax a little, watch out on unpastuerized cheese but take things easy in moderation. So far it's been working. Taking it day by day.
My last pregnancy I had a glass of wine or a low ABV beer about once a week and did fine. This pregnancy though, I've only had half a glass! Can't stomach it much.
My guilt kicks in so I really don't drink during pregnancy. I worry that if I do when something goes wrong it's my fault. Sister-in-law had a glass of wine every week with her pregnancy and her son has some issues so my husband is afraid that it was wine that caused all her sons issues. Therefore he freaks out even more if I even use wine in my cooking when I'm pregnant. But to each their own. A lot of people drink while pregnant and don't have any known effects.

You risk more riding in a car every day than you do with an occasional glass of wine. And "Google"? You can't be serious. Try readi g some actual research. There's some interesting studies cited all throughout TB on this very topic. Also, Expecting Better by Emily Oster covers this topic well.
The majority of women here who choose to have an occasional glass of wine are not doing so willy nilly with zero research and education.
Further, not all doctors prescribe to that theory. My doctor is quite fine with my 2-3 small glasses of wine per week.
I had 1/2 a glass of red wine the other night and felt...dizzy. Went from comfortably drinking 2 glasses with dinner (pre pregnancy) to barely being able to drink 1/2!! Talk about lightweights! but I didn't love the feeling, felt...uncomfortable(?). Not beer tho, had 1/2 a glass of beer with hubby on date night about a week ago and felt great and was finally able to relax. (I work 7 days a week and taking on all and any relaxation methods possible) Keeping any (alcohol) drinks down to once a week.
@CharminglySouthern although there has been done research on it, no one can tell you the long term effects on the child further along if you've been drinking even small doses during the pregnancy. There is no way of telling what a safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy is. Researching this is quite impossible. No judgement from me, I have enjoyed a few sips of wine during the pregnancy myself and I was very drunk before I found out I was pregnant.
No real wine for me, sadly. Personally, I love wine and would be comfortable with a glass here or there, but my husband is pretty uncomfortable with the notion of my drinking at all during pregnancy. He asks precious little of me usually, so while we may evaluate further down the road, for now I'm willing to make that one adjustment for him To his credit, he's been really sweet and about bringing home potential wine substitutes that I can use to replace my much-missed glass-to-relax ritual.
That said, he just stocked me up on Fre alcohol-removed wine, and I had my first glass of the red blend last night. It. Was. AWFUL. And I'm not exactly a wine snob, either. The Chardonnay and white zin might be better (haven't tried them yet), but I'm not holding my breath. Blech. I think I may stick to grape juice.
