Has anyone been having any dark red wine? I've read once a week really helps with cleaning out your system and some doctors even recommend this! Just want opinions of those who aren't judgemental.
You can have a glass a week or so. But a glass a week will not clean out your system either. Some people (like my hubby) are totally uncomfortable with this concept but most doctors say around that is fine even if they won't tell their patients that.

This is where Americans tend to go a bit crazy. Ethically, it's impossible to study alcohol's effect on pregnancy and babies. We know that too much wine is harmful, but we don't know where the limit is.
I am not a physician, but know many personally and professionally. In their own pregnancies, they have an occasional glass of wine. The guide they have given me is 4 oz, consumed with food/water somewhat slowly, up to a few times a week.
In other countries, it's perfectly acceptable to have a glass nightly, as doctors think there are some health benefits (calming mamas). Actually after my mom had the signs of early labor with my sister, the doc prescribed a glass nightly to calm her uterus.
Oh yes! I have been having a small glass every few weeks or so (usually if I need a little for whatever I'm making for dinner). I have a bottle of Merlot for tonight, and I'm so excited (even though DH will get by far the majority of it). My SIL did the same through her pregnancy so I'm not worried about it. Glad to see I'm not the only one!
I am not much of a drinker and, frankly, the idea of drinking now churns my stomach. But I don't judge. Everything in moderation (says the girl who ate a turkey and brie sandwich for lunch yesterday).
With DD I only had wine when Obama won the presidency and I think I had about half a glass.
This time I've had two glasses so far. One was on date night, our friends took DD so we could get out. The other was over this weekend because DD decided to take off running down the bench seating at a nice restaurant. Luckily she didn't knock down a single wine glass or plate and maintained awesome balance the whole way... we were trying to look at it from the positive.
I have had zero desire to drink wine this pregnancy, but if I wanted it I'd have it in moderation and I definitely would not judge someone else for drinking it.
I had 1 glass when I was pregnant with my first. Something about it wasn't enjoyable, so I didn't have anymore. It tasted weird even though it was a wine I drank (repeatedly) before getting pregnant. Maybe it's just not for me. Sigh.
I love wine and while I didn't drink daily, I usually had it when dining out or in occasional home meals. I did miss it at first but now I don't anymore. I plan to have a flute of champagne to toast the new year though, as 2016 is shaping up to be a great year.
Yup - had a sangria this weekend and it was A-MAZ-ING... drank a beer or so a week with my first as it was a MAJOR craving. It def helps with the stress level. And just relaxes me, and I'm totally a super light weight now LOL so one and done is fine! I'm a firm believer in keeping pregnancy stress free!
I went to a winery a few weeks ago and did a tasting. Total was all of a glass of wine. I did buy a bottle. I haven't been a huge wine fan in the past, but lately I've been craving it more. I will do a glass every so often, being once or twice a month. No judgement.
My doctor said red wine is fine and I've had a couple glasses so far. Only one glass at a time, I don't plan on drinking more than a glass every couple weeks.
I drink some wine every other week, when I get together with family or friends. For the moment I don't mind it. I'd say in total I drink about a full glass of wine a month. If the French do it without any concerns, I imagine I should be fine in moderation.
I have not yet had wine but I plan having a glass during date nights if I feel like it. I enjoy wine a lot and used to have it at least once a week at home so it will be a nice treat on date nights.
I have had a few sips here and there and one glass of wine when we went on our cruise to celebrate baby and completing my Masters. I will probably have a glass here and there throughout, but like most women most days I just don't have the taste for it right now. I have known quite a few women too drink a glass here and there throughout pregnancy and all their kids have turned out just fine. I also know a lot of women who won't touch it, to each there own!
I'm glad this thread was posted! I had a glass of Pinot noir this weekend at dinner. The first sip was like heaven, but it didn't do much for me after that. I'd rather have a pint of beer (preferably a hoppy IPA), but for some reason that makes me feel more guilty than a glass of wine, so I won't indulge.
I don't know if I'll do it again. If so, it will probably be a rare treat.
I can't wait until I'm I the second trimester to join you ladies. My doctor is ok with a glass of red wine every now and again. With DS I had maybe 3 glasses the entire pregnancy and couldn't drink for a year after I had him. It just tasted different and was a total turn off for a long time but this time around I have been craving wine with Brie like its my job!!! Two weeks to go.
I haven't had any wine since my BFP but I had a dream last night that I went to a wine tasting event and overindulged to the point I got drunk. My husband doesn't want me to drink a drop while pregnant so out of respect for him I won't.
I had a glass of merlot and a steak for my birthday. DH doesn't drink but a couple beers a year so I rarely drink either (though I do have a sober driver if needed), but dang it was so good!
On our anniversary I had a glass of champagne and it was AMAZING. I loooove red wine too and will probably have a glass here and there once I get to the second trimester. Especially during the holidays when the rest of my family is really indulging! Who knows if that's rational but whatever. To each their own, no judgement here!
I've had both red and white wine, beer, and some unofficially "prescribed" vodka during various pregnancies (preterm labor- and it was much more pleasant and effective than the magnesium and terbutaline I got during the pregnancies I didn't drink...) All my kids are fine, as are millions of European kids whose mothers continued drinking in moderation throughout pregnancy. And so is my uncle, during whose pregnancy my grandmother was prescribed a daily cocktail to prevent preterm labor after her previous child was born early. I realize it's unethical to do double blind studies (the best kind) on pregnant women, but I'm positive we could get some good numbers with prospective studies...
I drank a glass here or there with my first pregnancy, but I honestly felt guilty about it every time. Even though I LOGICALLY know that the one glass wouldn't hurt anything, every time my son had a delay (and he had a LOT), I would wonder... would it have possibly been slightly better if I hadn't had that glass of wine? Again, logically I know it's kind of ridic, but that's parenting for you! Plus really what's the point of drinking 4 oz? Can't even get a good buzz going! So I don't think I'll drink this time around at all.

My first pregnancy after the 1st tri I would have 1 glass or 1 beer maybe 1-2x per week? Oddly this time around I have zero desire for any alcohol... Which is weird for me.
So I have yet to enjoy some wine, but most likely will enjoy a glass in the future. But I did read this on brie from americanpregnancy.org and on the cdc.gov page.:
"Do not eat soft cheeses such as feta, Brie, and Camembert, blue-veined cheeses, or Mexican-style cheeses such as queso blanco, queso fresco, and Panela, unless they have labels that clearly state they are made from pasteurized milk."
So if I am reading that correctly, as long as the brie is pasteurized, it is safe to consume. Yes? Anyone else see it that way?
Yeah- ive been eating soft pasteurized cheeses but soft cheese has been off putting this pregnancy. I crave it, so I have it, but I don't like it. Very annoying!
Even though I've been told a glass every now and then is fine I still feel incredibly guilty every time I'm considering taking a glass. I was on a weekend long trip with the office and the office bought us a lot of nice wine. I was so tempted several times and ended up tasting it with the food, and it was amazing but I couldn't get myself to drink more than two sips. We don't know the long term effects on children when we drink while pregnant as it is pretty hard to research and I would rather be safe than sorry. I'm just looking forward to meeting my little butternut for the first time and have a nice cold glass of rose wine.
@pfafflin714 yes that is correct. And pretty much all cheese in the United States is pasteurized as it is required. I had Brie the other day with red pepper jelly and it was amazing! Just double check the labels and you'll be fine.

It's a boy! Grow baby, grow! EDD: 4/22/2016
Edit for gif, because this used to be me

Personally, I don't drink any alcoholic beverages during pregnancy but that is my decision.
