Oh high school. How I missed you. It was a joke to lighten up the shit PPs have been getting. But I forget that whenever I speak at least 5 people must respond with shaming and or whatever else. Stop paying attention to me then if you think I'm a narcissist. You're the one putting me under a spotlight.

I can't count the threads where several posters have said similar things (especially on my threads) and nobody ever says anything. But that's fine.

    Anyway guys I've got homeroom.

And I wasn't expecting nor did I want the reaction I've gotten, I just wanted to be a part of something. A DH, a white picket fence, no crazy shit or issues would be a much better story, I agree. I wish it were mine. I realize this means nothing, though so I'll keep it short.

If you realize that it means nothing, why even say anything? You bring this all on yourself.
  • @GingerAvenger if you're referencing what I said in the first part of your reply, I'm not referring to friendships that end up persevering out of this group. That's obviously the same thing as discussions with face to face friends. My comment was for the folks who use this purely as info/entertainment/venting to those aren't privy to their real personal life/or whatever drop in and lurk reasons. I recall someone saying a while back that they had previous plans regarding a shower/celebration and then feeling unsure about it bc of the strong opinions people on this board had about them. To me, that's a shame.

I know there are complaints about the repeat subject matter, but in reality it aligns with what everyone is dealing with at the present time. Everyone is having/had/preparing for/missing out on showers. So as everyone progresses toward labor (some way sooner than others, God bless them) it's time for the "contractions", "mucus plug", "is this labor??" waves...it is what it is
  • @Elyse1384 I don't see how anything I wrote was more or less insulting then some of the other things I've read.

I thought you were in college, you would think that after finishing a degree you would know there is no such thing as "homeroom" in college.
Further reinforcing my theory you are a bored 16 y.o living with your parents. (Though still narsasstic)

  • @elyse1384 Right. If you read the thread in it's entirety it was brought up and addressed. I admitted that although it was a teasing statement, an 'lol' does not drive home the fact that it was meant as a joke. I'm a big girl and can admit when I am wrong or have been unclear without getting offended.
Still, I don't see how anything I've written has been more or less insulting than some of the other things I've read. Not that I need an answer, but quoting something I wrote still doesn't answer that anyway.
  • @Elyse1384 I didn't ask what you thought I wrote that was insulting. I asked how it was more or less insulting than other things people write around here and the tones they use. But you can't answer that because there are just as many posts, newbies and regs alike, that use condescending tones or insults. Joking or not.
  • @GingerAvenger yes I'm definitely with you on the perspective thing. That's for the most part why I comment on many posts. That particular case was an anomaly I think.

And absolutely, there needs to be a warning for that type of stuff, after all it's just...wait for it...good MANNERS!!

    @Elyse1384 To me, insulting someone's worth is on par with insulting their intellect. You weren't joking;

OK so here is what I've gathered from this thread...

    1. The new "Miss Manners" and her subsequent crash course on etiquette vs manners is the only member coming off as having neither etiquette nor manners.   NOTE:  I won't even respond to the insults spewed on that post because I am reserving the ban hammer for something/someone far more worthy of my removal.
    2. Unica was so dissatisfied with the reaction received on her equally exhausting baby shower thread that she had to come here to WK OP.
    3. Petite is a non-lurking lurker
    4. Beyond the regs trying to put an end to the insanity, OP is the only sensible one who asked for the thread to be closed.
    5. Dogsombrero got banned???????  WTF
    6. I'm hungry.  I think that has something to do with Ginger's sig... mmmm... cookies...

Or maybe you were joking seeing as how you have in fact responded to what you deemed spewed insults.
Either way, can you look at your own post and genuinely say, "I totally wasn't being condescending or rude AT ALL. In fact I was being super nice.".?

Look, we obviously disagree on some points. Lol. Maybe many points.
My intent was not to put anyone or their intellect down. I have a strange and vaguely sarcastic sense of humor and that was plainly lost in translation. I can understand that and I apologized and will do so again.
What I've said would have been better responded to in person I imagine and it is absolutely nothing I wouldn't say in person.
I've said similar joking things about myself.
I've gotten great advice and information off this board and have had a few opinion-offs but nothing that has been received so foully or so misinterpreted.
Like I said before, I figured I was offering up a debatable opinion and thought that my point of view on the subject matter would be what was debated. Instead I've received snarky comments on spelling, snarky comments being called miss manners or a novelist. These things don't bother me, although they seem inconsistent with what those commenters are trying to accomplish.
To tell someone they are being this or that while at the same time being this or that.
Although some things are plainly more rude or mean or passive aggressive than others, to measure it like a science seems hypocritical and as if one is standing on a pedestal.

Insulting someone's worth?  I'm not certain how you get that from my calling you Mrs Manners (sarcasm) after your soliloquy on manners vs etiquette in which you insulted members of the community. By insulting members, you went against the very point you were trying to make about manners being most important.

Your commentary suggests you don't accept varying degrees of offense so there is no sense in continuing to debate.  I take far less offense (or no offense) to someone being sarcastic with me or having a "tone" or inserting an eye roll gif than bluntly insulting my intelligence.  Life is full of varying degrees of offense and even the judicial system recognizes that.

I appreciate that you previously apologized and recognized your comment was lost in translation (many don't), but that doesn't negate my original point.  Furthermore, I quite like the view from up here so I think I'll stay

  • @elyse1384 I very much think you missed some of what I was referring to, but I have a feeling I probably did to you as well or else I doubt we'd be having this conversation.
I am humbly and with the utmost respect bowing out of this little thing we got going on.
I feel like I should take you to out to an awkward dinner after all we've been through...lol.
In the future I will most definitely watch more carefully how and what I am saying and I genuinely appreciate your opinions.

There is a glossary, you know...
  • Oh wow this escalated quickly, lol! I'm gonna try keep this short cause really its older than all of our pregnancies.

@ceridwen77 - not exactly sure the point you were trying to make with the quotations skills but excellent use of your time! Maybe you wanted a thumbs up too...?

@thegingeravenger - I didn't know we had to clock in a certain amount of time in order to really be members but just FYI I have also been on this board since March/April- does that make my point more valid or something? Cause that's what you seemed to imply...time and effort on the board gives one more rights to have an opinion on what the board should be like?  Also you and others complain so much about the repeat questions, why not just skip those threads? Usually you can tell whats its about right on the title...wouldn't that be easier (and have more good manners) than snark and jokes made at others expense?

@elyse1384 - use your scroll bar and read what actually happened. I came on this thread to simply respond to the OP, nothing I said had anything to do with my own thread nor did it direct anything at anyone. But then the etiquette squad (@charminglysouthern, @petitnightingale, @flasflas, and some others) started the directive comments and ridiculousness. I responded further because it was at least the fifth time a shower thread goes off the deep end because the etiquette police just cannot manage to avoid looking a a thread they know will annoy them from the beginning.

Note- I only responded to the things that directly involved me. If anyone feels the need to continue reliving high school please message me or even better find something more productive to do and let it go.
  • I was at The Fresh Market, the other day, and the whole front entrance smelled like fall--- meaning apple cider, cinnamon and pumpkin undertones-- this is one of the best times of the year!

That sounds amazing... Now I will make my DH bring my wax melter and the apple cinnamon wax cubes so I can smell all the loveliness.. That's if they give me the OK to have him bring it.. The other hospital allowed the wall plug in air fresheners and that just wasn't doing it for me..

I would be so sad if i couldn't have something like that in the hospital--- although i understand the safety concern. I tried to convince my mom cause she was in town visiting me-- that I needed a fall scented candle she laughed and said i did not because knowing my luck i'd accidentally set my place on fire forgetting i had a candle lit. (it's a fair point, i'm rather clumsy)

They may let me because it's not a candle but I do understand why they don't allow stuff like that for the risks that it can cause.. And my brother forgot about a candle once and it got his curtains and we caught it just in time to get the curtains put out but it would be my luck that my whole place went up in flames! Which is why I have a wax warmer lol
