How do you all make tummy time enjoyable for your LO's? Mine absolutely hates it and screams the whole time. It absolutely breaks my heart so we don't do it as often as we should. She doesn't care for the designs and animals on the play mat.

try tummy time on your chest?
I just found this article: https://mamaot.com/2012/03/25/tips-for-making-tummy-time-a-little-less-um-miserable/

I've tried tummy time on my chest but her doctor said that didn't count ???
  • @swaugh14 I noticed Huggies made my lo red, but not a rash. We've been using pampers sensitive or regular pampers and had no problems. The Huggies aren't as soft so I think that was our problem

i fail to see how it doesnt count.. anything that helps strengthen your baby's neck and other muscles counts.. i think you could just start her upright in a burp position on your shoulder then work on the incline of it. day by day, just kind of sliding down so she is laying more and more flat.

ETA: my LO has only done normal tummy time for maybe all of an hour and a half total and he is almost 6 weeks, the rest of it has been him just holding his head up to look around while being burped/laying on my chest at many different degrees of incline. so.. i definitely believe it counts.

So I've been an avid lurker and rarely post but I'm starting to freak out. Have any of you ladies NOT started their periods yet? My lo is 10 1/2 weeks old and exclusively ff...
  • Sometimes I Lay her with her head facing my knees on my legs for tummy time. She likes that it's a better view from above.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • Here's a random question. How often do you bathe your baby, what soap do you use, do you put it right in the bath water? After the bath, what lotion do you use and what body parts do you put it on? I've been using lotion on lo's legs, feet, and belly. It feels silly not to put it on her arms, but I don't want her to get it in her mouth when she sucks them.

Has anyone run into wipes that irritate their LO? Is it just a redness and sort of a rough skin feeling? LO has some general redness but they aren't diaper rash spots and it doesn't just go away with cream. The only thing I can think of is that all of our generic sensitive wipes someone bought us ran out this week and we started using Pampers Sensitive wipes. Wonder if those are causing the dryness and sensitivity?

I find it humorous that an off brand may work better for her. If this is it (I'm going to try switching back immediately and see if it improves) I'll consider this a win!

Even the sensitive wipes have chemicals in them.. I love babyganics I use them for his face, hands, and butt. He's started getting a diaper rash twice in his young life from just continuous loose poops in which I immediately keep a bowl of water and use wet cotton balls.. Then let air dry... The rash would never progress and go away by next day... So bottom line plain water is best ... That's why at our hospital we only give out dry cloths to get wet for poop diapers.. Most patients didn't like them because it adds an extra step.. But it really is best.. Maybe give that a shot

  • I might just do the water. Her bottom seems so irritated and it makes me sad to change her. We've never had this problem before the Pampers Sensitive wipes, so it has to be those. I bought Target Up & Up Sensitive today and those look exactly like the others we were using before that worked fine, but I might just use water tomorrow to try to get her back to normal - and some good air drying. She starts daycare next week and I'd rather not hand them an uncomfortable baby.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
  • @Zinaz still waiting on my period too. But, my LO is 8 weeks on Wednesday and I do both breastfeeding and formula

@Sjeff0816 twice a week, Burt's bees baby soap / shampoo, hubby does bathtimes with me assisting - he wets baby and then I pour some soap into his hands and he lathers his hands up and then soaps up baby (usually takes 2-3 hand lathers to get all over baby). No lotion unless there is a for real really dry patch, and there usually isnt

  • @kes166 yes! Love this. Also, my LO giggles excitedly before latching on. Now that I'm over the hump, BF is more enjoyable. I'm glad you can find a silver lining since you're sticking with it.

@Zinaz I'm EBF but have had no period at 10+ weeks pp.

@Sjeff0816 thanks for asking this. I'm giving irregular baths since we are on the move, but wipe LO down with a wash cloth every other day or so (I wipe his hands at least twice a day). I don't use lotions, just the occasional coconut oil. Am also seeking a baby soap now that we are back Stateside. Heard Doc Bronners has a baby soap... Anyone use that? Thanks @mellymar for the Burt's reminder
  • @kes166 I get super wide eyes and a huge smile when I pull out a boob. It's hilarious.

@virginiaunicorn11 I noticed the linea negra more after both pregnancies. It went away after DS but came back earlier when I was pregnant with LO. It hasn't gone away yet, but I'm hoping. Although I doubt I'll be rocking a bikini anytime soon so it probably doesn't matter.

@devyns2nd I don't have very good luck with the bulb or the nose Frieda. The bulb from the hospital actually works slightly better if I have to rank the two options. Are you using saline spray to moisten first? I had the drops, but then bought the mist. LO hated the drops and would scream his head off.

Ugh I bought drops and was just wondering if he has that burning feeling (I feel like I'm drowning every time) I have when I do them :( I should have gotten the mist.
  • @Zinaz no period here either and I'm 11.2 weeks post partum. Gonna call my doc at 12 weeks, which I read to do. I'm formula feeding so no reason it shouldn't be back yet.

@virginiaunicorn11 I still have a big ol' dark line...
  • I still have my linea negra, which is still much darker than when I was pregnant. I don't mind it, but find it curious. Anyone else?

(Sorry, I feel like I maybe asked this before, but sleep deprivation...)

my sister is 9 months PP from her 2nd child and she still has one.
  • I had a linea negra with DD but never really had one at all with LO, is that weird? And @Zinaz I'm almost 10 weeks pp and still no period. I'm BF and supplementing.

Not yet, at 11weeks pp. We're exclusively breastfeeding though.

  • Thanks for the responds.
I called my OB today and she said I'd better take a pregnancy test and to come in this week! This makes me jump to I must be pregnant, so been panicing all afternoon. Soooo glad to hear that others haven't started their periods yet. (Pregnancy test negative- hallelujah sure can't imagine having another baby so soon)

  • The bath question above has me thinking, do you ladies completely soap up your LO, or do you just put some drops in the bathwater?

  • @amccoy129 I put a drop in the bath water. Sometimes a drop on a wash cloth too. Interested what others do!
  • I put some in the bath water, but then I soap up the washcloth to get to her neck cheese because it's so tight to even be able to wash in there. Even a little bit of soap dries out her skin. I feel like water dries out her skin...poor girl inherited her moms awful skin sensitivities. Her clothes will never smell like fresh detergent because she will always have to use unscented. Ahhh, first world problems.

  • So I know you're supposed to stop swaddling when LO can roll over. My lol has gone front to back but only 3 times in 7 weeks, so still swaddle. Last night went in to find LO FACE DOWN in the crib screaming because he flipped back to front. Do I have to cut the swaddle now, or is this a fluke?

I still have the linea negra, although I think it is a little fainter. I think I read it can last up to a year and sometime never goes away. Awesome.

I put soap in my hands and then soap up LO'S body. His skin never gets dry but that's probably because I only bathe him every three, sometimes four, days. Maybe that's a mom fail... whatevs.

I read to only bathe 2/3 times per week unless the baby enjoys it. I think you are fine! We do full baths twice a week and naked wipe downs on other days.
  • Hey everyone, can we agree on one using one "overnight" thread instead of 2? It's driving me crazy! ;)

The nurses at our hospital actually told us not to swaddle to sleep period because of a risk of suffocation (though there have been SO many nights I've been tempted to!). But that aside, I think I would say that since your LO has rolled over on multiple occasions out probably is safest to put the swaddling to an end.

  • I go back to work on Monday so my aunt is coming today to watch LO and give me a free day off! She's here in an hour and I still don't know how to spend the day. What do you guys suggest?

I really want to clean the house. But I suspect that's not the point.

I do have a lip waxing appointment. Maybe shopping? Or breakfast and lunch sitting by myself? I do want to nap even though it means we will all be in the house.
  • Bummed... I was looking forward to EBF to prolong starting my period, dang it

  • @hoodoll82 Too bad! Get Indian buffet for lunch and then some sushi to go. Eat it in bed with the door locked. Then take a food coma nap.
Of course half of what I did was for LO...

Got my lip waxed so I look presentable for work next week. Ate at a table for one at the Indian lunch buffet. Had two plates of food and two servings of dessert. Picked up baby formula. Dropped off new post-pregnancy-sized work pants to be hemmed. Stopped to to buy a wading pool for LO that I saw as I drove by the store because we are in a heat wave and it was JUST SO ADORABLE AND COVERED IN FISHES. Then stopped for ice cream.

Bummer being that during my excursion, my MIL called crying to say DH's great-aunt died. She was ill, but it still sucks and now I'm stressed about having to likely drive to New Jersey with a 11.5 week old in my last week of maternity leave :(
