Ugh!! I would never look online if I had to see those words every time! Rough for sure! And even knowing that it's just a description doesn't make it any harder to read. Keep your head up mama!
I am right there with you. CheCk out pinkblush.com. They have cute non-mumu looking clothes. I am a 20/22 and 5'10". I actually got some old navy maternity for a trip in Sept and I am usually an xxl their maternity xxl is so big. So keep it mind and congrats!
I was waiting for someone to bring up the belly band (tube top looking thing) for my first baby it was a miracle because I didn't want to buy maternity clothes. I go between size 12 and 14 at 5'8. The nurse made sure I knew I was overweight. I ate what I wanted my first pregnancy and now I'm trying to be more aware. The nausea has me down though. Anyway, the belly band will buy you at least a few more weeks/months to find the right clothes. Keep in mind you'll probably wear them post baby too for comfort.
@mcklough Thanks for sharing. I was not going to do any bump pics because I thought there would be no difference, just a fat lady! You look great, and thanks for the inspiration! I think maybe I will try it too!
Between a 24 and 26 usually and have actually lost about 5 lbs due to morning sickness and eating right, but I've had to get out my few pairs of 28 pants due to bloat. I'm so excited! So much so that my cousin has already given me a ton of maternity clothes she had tucked away in her closet.
I'm a size 20/22, due 2/24/16 and already in maternity pants and they are AMAZING! I have my fears of what this pregnancy could turn into due to my weight and high blood pressure, but my awesome docs are keeping a close eye on everything and I've already been able to see our little miracle twice! Good luck to you!
I'm a sz 18-20, 5'9". After two kids (and poor eating/exercise habits) I've looked pregnant for a couple years now, lol. For some reason my belly fat never just looked like a spare tire or something, it looks like a 6 month baby belly I've had people think I was pregnant when I wasn't and it definitely wasn't fun at all. (If they don't know for certain why do they have to say something?!?)
But I'm down a good 10lbs from pre-pregnant weight now, so that's a plus. Eventually my pregnancy will catch up to my belly right? lol.
I felt the same tightness in my waistband about a week ago and was like "what the heck am I going to do?" Because I don't want to be buying new clothes every couple of months. I found a tutorial on making easy belly bands out of cheap tank tops from walmart so i made a few. They fit great with lots of room to stretch and grow (and I spent $8 making 4 as opposed to buying one for $20). Also since I currently do not have a job and am going back to college in the fall I will be living most of my pregnancy in Yoga pants, leggings and long shirts/tunics!
Can you share the link for the tutorial? This sound like a great idea, a lot better than wearing a long shirt and saying f it and unbuttoning the pants all afternoon! Hahaha

It won't let me post a link from my phone but pretty much what I did was buy cheap Walmart tank tops ($1.66 each) used the top hem on the back as a guide and cut straight across (leaving you with what looks like a tube top. At this point you can either wear as is or you can fold them hem down (1/4 to 1/2 an inch and give it a finished edge on. Sewing machine. I love them.
Im also size 20/22 this is my second pregnancy; i lost our first! Im now 12 weeks 1 day iv had 3 early pregnancy scans n my 12week and baby is doing great! Iv read alot of you talking about maternity clothes, i bought i couple of the stretch waist trousers they are so comfy and will expand with bump.. If i ever show lol iv read so much bad press about plus size pregnancy but iv decided to stop reading about ut as it only worries me unnessesarly! X
Size 18/20 here. Has anyone had any problems hearing the heartbeat early? I'm not a first time mom - but am totally have FTM struggles/worries! With my first I was a size 14/16 and was able to hear heartbeat by 9 weeks. This time I couldn't hear heartbeat at 9.5 weeks and don't go back to the doctor until aug 6th. The doctor did not seem concerned... but I don't know why I can't shake the feeling. I'm trying to ease my worries - and am attributing it to maybe being heavier??
I mentioned my concern about hearing the heartbeat over my fluff this time around. The NP said it can be harder to hear the HB. It took her at least 10 minutes to find it at my 10 week appointment but she did find it. It felt like it took forever. I was almost 50 lbs. lighter with DS and was able to hear the HB at 7 weeks. I was very relieved she finally found it!
I also see AMA and obesity when I log on. It is probably a slap in the face that I need.
I understand your struggle! I have a lap band Oct 2013. I went from a size 18-20 to a 10-12. My biggest issue is I do not feel hungry and so I get really tired quickly and then if I eat to fast I get food hung so it is a constant battle for me. So far I am maintaining my weight I was about 50 lbs away from my goal weight when I found out I was pregnant. I am nervous about gaining weight back and my husband has been grilling me about what I eat everyday. He worries I won't consume enough for two people. Good luck with your calorie count it is a daily struggle for me. I look forward to hearing more from you!!!
Hi there! I'm a plus size mommy-to-be!
I actually had a Sleeve Gastrectomy performed on Dec 3rd 2014, and have since lost 100.1 lbs, which is why I'm pregnant (apparently ). However, I'm still in about a size 18/20. My biggest problem right now is getting in enough calories a day. On a good day, I get about 900-1000, but my obgyn told me to try for 1500.
So, yeah, there's that. I'm just trying to be as healthy as possible for my LO. :x
Anyone having troubles hearing the heartbeat? I have a feeling weight has some of the blame. Doctor had a hard time today at 12w5d. She would find it and then lose it again. Ended up getting an ultrasound just to make sure. There was LO squirming like crazy. Got to hear 5 seconds of heartbeat, but still made me anxious that it took the extra steps to hear it.
Same thing happened to me @cassandrarenae , and we're the same size. I agree with @slang434 because it was too early and I already read that it was too early to hear. The ultrasound came back fine and yours did, too. Weight wasn't the issue, but I thought the same way you did. If baby is fine, no worries!
Could not find heartbeat for me at 9ish weeks. Took her almost 10 minutes to find heartbeat at 13ish weeks. It was terrifying. My doctor was really unconcerned... And did a lot of patient searching. Inevitably - if you had to get an ultrasound to hear the hb, don't worry about the extra steps. As long as the hb was there - then baby is good!! (That's what I try to focus on anyway!)
@nrstumpf happened to me on Friday. Doc tried for maybe 5 minutes and because I was headed out of town for prior obligations for the weekend he is doing an ultrasound early this week (told me he did not want me dealing with a "possible loss" while dealing with family obligations) but I am just keeping the faith that everything is ok because he didn't try long AND I am bigger which makes it harder to hear at 12 weeks (he also said 10-12 weeks is the EARLIEST they can usually get it on the doppler on a normal sized person)
Hey ladies! Size 18/20 and 5'10 so I'm chubby but hide ALL the extra weight pretty well and currently 13w6d. We just found out we are expecting a girl! I am worried that I won't have a bump and will just look extra chunky. I have lost about 5lbs during the pregnancy from morning sickness but still try to make sure I eat healthy. I loved the idea of the carnation instant breakfasts and will be picking up some today! For anyone else experience "morning" sickness throughout the day, my friend told me to freeze green grapes and eat them. It's helped me a little. Good luck beautiful ladies!
I'm plus size and I have to say some doctors could be extremely rude about this. I've switched doctors recently because the first doctor I had made me feel so uncomfortable. He actually made me feel like my weight would pretty much cause me to have a miscarriage and if I didn't the baby would be very unhealthy. I was the only overweight woman he's ever dealt with so I guess he just didn't know how to handle it. He actually had me crying after each appointment. I knew that being overweight and pregnant wasn't the best thing but I also know many overweight woman who had very healthy babies. So I decided to switch doctors. I explained to the new doctor how the old doctor made me feel and he was speechless. He just couldn't believe it. He reassured me that the baby looks very healthy and I shouldn't have any issues at all. He has made me feel so comfortable and I'm so happy I switched.
PSA- if any of you are planning on checking out walmart's plus size maternity. They run A LOT smaller than the regular walmart plus and I was not impressed with any of it once it arrived at my house.
The motherhood maternity stuff is more expensive but it's great and I love it.
I was just looking at Old Navy, and all I see is regular maternity. Yes, they have a XXL for maternity, but that's actually only a size 20. That's not going to work for me.
Hi there im plus size im between 20 and 24 im just hoping not to get any bigger it is nice to see that there are other people out there as i was under the impression that all the other pregnant mummies were skinny with neat little bumps x
I ordered 3 size xl shirts from Old Navy and altough I was happy they didn't have a seem under the breast, they did not compliment me at all and just looked like a tent and hugged all the wrong curves in my back- needless to say, they are all going back. I wish it wasn't so hard to find maternity clothes that fit correctly. At least with this being my 2nd, I have some clothes from 7 years ago but even some of those aren't fitting right.
I'm between a size 16 and 20 (18 for most stuff). I'm a FTM and was worried what my dr was going to say. It took us exactly one year to get pregnant. When we went for our fertility consult I was expecting our dr to make a comment that i need to loose weight and that's the reason we were having issues (I'm 5"7' and about 245 but i think i carry it well and am actually very healthy besides my weight), but to my amazement he didn't bring it up and we actually ended up getting pregnant without any fertility help. Even at my appointments he hasn't brought up my weight, but luckily i only gained 3lbs in my first tri. Just had to go buy my frst pair if maternity pants for work and went to Motherhood Maternity. Just a heads up the sales lady thought the XLs should fit, but they didn't. They do have a 1X for their plus size and they fit great. Unfortunately they don't have a large plus size selection and i think the largest they have is 1X. Hoping i will be able to find more to wear eventually, but this will do for now
My motherhood maternity had 3x in store. Maybe only a jean and a shirt, but I've seen more on their website. Looks like I'll be ordering online for most things
I'm plus sized but mainly because after I have my babies I end up with hypothyroidism, this is my third baby my rainbow, I've had four pregnancies, one thing any new mom that may be plus sized should know don't let the doctors make you feel bad, I'm not the stereotypical "fat" person but I do get treated as such, just eat right and your baby will bee healthy and happy, congrats to ask new moms out there it really is such a blessing no matter what size the mom is just enjoy it goes really fast
Im a size 22/24 and i was 13 weeks and 2 days when they used the doppler it felt like it took forever to find it but it really didnt. She found it within a minute and was able to hear it for a while. Maybe just positioning and doctor.? I weigh 265. And am 5'3. They didnt bring up my size. But ive lost a couple pounds since the last appointment.
I'm way late on this but I am also a 24 Jean, my first baby I was a size 14/16 so 10 sizes bigger and now allergic to gluten so my OB knows why I'm heavy gotta have pasta, anyways I'm 5'8 and hold my weight pretty well, but I do have this fat belly and I'm really worried I'm just going to look fat the whole time ):
I actully lost almost 30 lbs between us finding out and me being 12 weeks. I'm 16 now, but I can tell still that I am slimming down everywhere else but my bump!
I am in a size 20 and high risk pregnancy and my one doctor said about my weight and I told her ik like everyone has already told me that but I am hoping this pregnancy goes well this is my first baby
I was a size 16 before I got pregnant. I'm noW 16 weeks, and probably in about a size 20. I as well am jealous of everybody's cute little baby bumps. I'm ready to look pregnant, not just fat. Also, I hear that it's a little bit more difficult to feel the baby move when you're plus size.? Has anybody out there felt any flutters from baby at 16 weeks?
I just wanted to let you all know that we have a fantastic support group over on Facebook for plus size moms. Whether you are trying to get pregnant, are currently expecting, or if you're a pro at parenting, we have the support, encouragement, and positivity that you're looking for.
I am on the same boat. I'm size 24 and 6ft tall. My pants are getting tighter and I don't know where to find affordable maternity for plus size. I cook for a living and need pants ASAP. Please let me know what stores I can try and find some that are affordable.

Destination maternity has plus size- it's not the hugest selection (but we should be used to that by now) but the stuff is by the far best quality I've seen from my other limited experiences. I ordered from the walmart plus size and I feel like it ran really small. I ordered 2x pants and I couldn't even breath in the legs. I'm a 20 pre pregnancy and the old navy XXL leggings I got fit but aren't big so I don't know if they would be an option. I hope others have good suggestions too!
@nrstumpf my doctor had me do an early glucose at 16 weeks, too. I failed the one hour and have to go back for the 3 hour. I keep putting my 3 hour back. I failed the one hour and passed the 3 hour with my first baby. I was annoyed that my doctor had me do it so early this time because I'm not 'that' overweight, and she had me do a 24 hour pee collection to get baseline data, ugh. I just want a healthy baby, so I'll do it, but sometimes think they're being too cautious.
Following up on my previous post, I PASSED MY GLUCOSE!!!! I'm still going to have to do another one around 26 weeks, but the phone call made me happy. Also, as a FTM I was totally expecting that drink to be worse. Mine tasted like a sweet mello yellow, and I think mello yello is already sweet.
In other exciting news: My wedding dress fits!!! Now, hopefully it still fits in 29 days.
Anyone feel kicks yet? My doctor told me not to worry. I'm not worried, I just want to feel it.
