Are there any other plus size mommies in this month? Like above a size 20? I would love to connect with you. We have some unique challenges and celebrations we can share and discuss.
I'm plus size, size 16. It does worry me being plus size. I have lost a little weight since I found out I was pregnant (not on purpose) but I definitely wish I was way healthier.
Yep. Size 20 here but I feel confident that things will go okay. Only really feel jealous about the cute baby bumps that are happening with others on the board.. But on the plus side (pun intended) since we won't show for a bit, no need to start dressing in looser clothes yet! I've been trying to eat healthier since the BFP and surprisingly it has been easier than I thought it would be! Still indulge tho but I just make sure to work out a little longer when I do.
ETA.. Every time I go to an appointment the nurses and doctors say that I'm healthy for a bigger girl.. Of course they always wanted me to lose weight but while pregnant they definitely don't harp on it as much and that feels great cause I have struggled with this my entire life.
I am also very healthy for my size and I was terrified of getting pregnant and what could happen due to it. I've tried losing weight but it seems the past few years it has got increasing harder to do so. In the past 3 weeks between Dr appts, I've unintentionally lost about 7 lbs.
While it may not look like I'm pregnant for a while, I can definitely see myself buying maternity pants soon because the button/zipper restriction is so uncomfortable and makes the nausea worse.
I'm 16-18. I'm sad I won't have a little bump like I did with DS but I'm trying to eat well. I don't foresee myself switching to maternity clothes any later since my work pants button.
Right there with you! I fall between a 22 and 24 usually. We do have a unique set of challenges put before us but as long as we are careful we can have just as healthy of a pregnancy and delivery as anyone else!
Thanks for the comments ladies. I fall between a 24 and 26, but I'm 5' 10" so most people know I'm overweight but I carry the weight well.
I think I may have actually lost a little weight since my last appointment bc I haven't had an appetite and been exercising more. My little peanut was a surprise, I would have tried to lose some weight before trying to get pregnant.
I'm nervous about finding maternity clothes if I need them. I think it'll be a lot of online shopping. I think it'll be a long time before I show, if I ever show a lot, but I can feel my waistband getting tight on my jeans. I don't think my dress pants will fit by the time I go back to teaching in a month.
I felt the same tightness in my waistband about a week ago and was like "what the heck am I going to do?" Because I don't want to be buying new clothes every couple of months. I found a tutorial on making easy belly bands out of cheap tank tops from walmart so i made a few. They fit great with lots of room to stretch and grow (and I spent $8 making 4 as opposed to buying one for $20). Also since I currently do not have a job and am going back to college in the fall I will be living most of my pregnancy in Yoga pants, leggings and long shirts/tunics!
Hi there! I'm a plus size mommy-to-be! I actually had a Sleeve Gastrectomy performed on Dec 3rd 2014, and have since lost 100.1 lbs, which is why I'm pregnant (apparently ). However, I'm still in about a size 18/20. My biggest problem right now is getting in enough calories a day. On a good day, I get about 900-1000, but my obgyn told me to try for 1500. So, yeah, there's that. I'm just trying to be as healthy as possible for my LO. :x

Oh man, I'm right there with ya! I have a pair of maternity pants that I haven't worn yet, but none of my current, "normal" pants zip comfortably! I've been in yoga pants and a pair of stretchy jeans since the second week after the BFP!

Carnation instant breakfast works wonders to fit in more calories/vitamins/nutrients if you can't fit them in any other way!

I've been wearing my normal pants regularly as they still do zip/button but when I'm sitting down, OMG, it definitely exaggerates the nausea I'm already feeling. I've been able to comfortably get away with unbuttoning/unzipping while at my desk at work but I should probably invest in the BB or something. I wish I could wear yoga pants to work SO BAD
Hey! I'm a size 16-18! I was super concerned about getting healthy when I first found out I was expecting.... Then the morning sickness hit! I have lost 15 lbs since I found out. But my doctor says that's ok! She said since I have the extra to give, that baby is just taking it from me rather than what I am eating anyway. I am 11 weeks now, but I am already into maternity clothes. Everyone said that the bump would come later on with me since I am bigger. But I have a pretty big baby bump already. And its not from my weight. It is pretty firm, and definitely has that baby belly shape to it! And I actually had a great experience getting maternity jeans! I was able to buy a size 12 and them still be a bit loose on me(since its sized right above your hips rather than your belly button!) Hope all you ladies start feeling better and have an awesome pregnancy!!!!
Hello! I am 1.5 yrs post op from a VSG. Started out a 22/24, current size 14ish, Still chunky fo sho, Hoping for a healthy and happy 9 months with you ladies
I am a size 18/20 and this is my second pregnancy, i had those same concerns the first time around but youd be surprised how many maternity clothes actually fit well from the stores i hardly did any online shopping. and for right now if your jeans are snug you can get the expanders that look like a hair tie but give you up to 3 inches, or the cloth bands that you can put over your jeans that resemble a tube top so you dont have to button/zip your jeans but noone can tell because the band and your shirts will cover it are both cheap easy tricks. Hope this helps and ill be happy to chat or answer more questions if you have them. Last pregnancy i gained a total of 33 lbs and ny daughter was very healthy and well nourished they said so try not to worry and enjoy it! believe it or itll go fast

Would a pair of palazzo pants be work appropriate since they're similar to trousers? That might be something to look into.
Im a size 22. Its our first baby im sad that i wont have a baby bump for awhile. And the whole picture deal sucks i havent took one that last 2 weeks. Just cus there's not going to be a difference for weeks. My dh told me its easier for us to carry a baby though. I think he just wanted me to ferl better
I wear size 18/20 but I'm a little over 6ft. I hate buying pants because they're never long enough. Not looking forward to finding maternity pants that are big and long.
I was a size 16 with my first, now I'm a 18/20. I'm 11 weeks and I've been in my maternity pants since 4th of July. I kept my maternity clothes from last time, but I'm shocked at how hard of a time I'm having fitting into my maternity tops! Guess I'll have to do a little shopping. I only gained 11 lbs last pregnancy and hoping to do the same this time, so I never looked pregnant, even the day before I gave birth, I think I just looked fat. It depends how everyone carries their weight, mine is definitely all in the middle to start. Has anyone found any cute places to shop yet, that's the one thing that's hard being plus size.
Hi! I am a 20/22 plus size mommy! This is my first, and I am about 9 weeks (I think). We will find out on Thursday with my first appointment. I am nervous about finding plus size maternity clothes, or if I will even need them! I hope I will look pregnant, but because I am so big normally, I am not sure. I am normally pretty healthy, but my mom is already on the "you are going to be sick/have a bad time because of your weight". Would love to hear from other plus size mommies who have done this before as plus size, and any recs or advise! Thanks!
@gmjpeach1 I was a size 20 with my son and honestly had a easy pregnancy. My Dr just made sure I was eating healthy and exercising and I had a normal vaginal birth. As long as you had a Dr who is plus size friendly then it should be a great relationship! I have a different Dr this time round and so far I love her. She hasn't mentioned my weight being an issue, we did a glucose test early and it came back fine. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
I'm plus size as well. I had just lost 20 lbs (with a goal of losing 60 total) when I got my BFP! I'm still quite a bit over my ideal weight but my blood work, blood pressure and other health indicators have always been excellent so I am hoping for a healthy pregnancy anyway.

I'm right there with you! 18/20, right at 6ft. I can't find anything in long or tall past size 16. With my last pregnancy I wore dresses. Not looking forward to a winter of tights but right now that's all I've found for big & tall ladies.
Thanks! I have Kaiser, and unfortunately my normal dr visits go "everything ever wrong with you is because of your weight". I have my first appointment on Thursday, so we shall see. I am seeing an RN, and have now been told by TONS of people that I need to insist on a doctor, or I will never see one.
Hi ladies! I'm size 24 and am 12w2d with our rainbow baby. With my first pregnancy I didn't take any pics and I totally regret it now. My dd is 4 (baby is due on her 5th bday!) and I made a promise to myself to take pics this time. Sure, I don't like them but I know I'll be glad to have them. As far as maternity clothes, I order from motherhood maternity. I'm already wearing maternity jeans because my regular jeans are too tight. We might show later, but we still deserve to enjoy our pregnancies!!

I second the photos! I'm definitely overweight (sz 14), and started my last pregnancy about 20lbs lighter than I am now. I was so self conscious that I barely took any maternity pics and I regret it SO much. In fact, I've cried many times over it since LO was born because I can never get that back.
I'm already starting to feel the same "I look too fat to take belly pics" thing, but I am determined to enjoy and appreciate this (my last) pregnancy.

I was size 16 when I had my dd, now 6, and had a total problem free pregnancy and delivery with her. Just because you have excess weight now, doesn't mean you're going to have issues. Your biggest concern will be not gaining too much weight, but as pp have said, in the beginning it's easy to loose weight, mainly because we all start eating less crap since there is someone else who is eating with us. Don't stress and enjoy your pregnancy!
Dr told me I might have fertility issues and if I didn't get pregnant in 3-4 months to try to lose 10% of my body weight to help promote regular ovulation. Well, it took 2 months, I'm 11w3d now, and lost 7lbs since we found out. I'm hoping the weight loss continues for a few more
I just wanted to share a progress pic. The yellow dress is at BFP and the left is 9 weeks. It's a lot different looking than some of the Wednesday bump pics but I still see it and I'm trying to just have fun and not have expectations about what my body does differently than someone who is straight sized.
Size 18/20 here. Has anyone had any problems hearing the heartbeat early? I'm not a first time mom - but am totally have FTM struggles/worries! With my first I was a size 14/16 and was able to hear heartbeat by 9 weeks. This time I couldn't hear heartbeat at 9.5 weeks and don't go back to the doctor until aug 6th. The doctor did not seem concerned... but I don't know why I can't shake the feeling. I'm trying to ease my worries - and am attributing it to maybe being heavier??
I'm a 14/16 ftm and I was at the Dr on Friday and we could find the heartbeat but it doesn't worry me as the Dr said they have hard time until 12 weeks no matter the mother's size and I was only 10 w 5 days at the time. They had no problems with the ultrasound when I had my dating scan at 8 w 1 day.
My doctor didn't even mention my weight as a concern for my pregnancy ease otherwise I'm relatively healthy.
My doctor couldn't find the heartbeat at my 10w appointment and definitely didn't seem concerned but I asked her to please keep trying to give me peace of mind after a loss at the beginning of the year. It took a few minutes but she finally found it by just putting in a couple extra minutes. Don't be afraid to ask for it. She also would have done a sonogram but the tech had already left for the day. Again - don't be afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is the doc says no.
I'm a plus-size mommy! Size 20, 6ft tall... So no one ever guesses my weight, but I sure know it. And my body is so different after having my daughter last year.
Since my BFP, I've lost 21 lbs, and my jeans fit better.. Except in the stomach. If I'm sitting, they HAVE to be unbuttoned, otherwise it hurts so bad. I lost that much just because of how nauseous I've been. Just NOTHING sounded good. and when I did it, it was teeny tiny portions. The nausea is starting to go away! *party dance* As long as I keep myself fed every couple of hours I don't feel too nauseous. However, if I smell something, or hear something, or see something, or THINK of something gross... Then make sure there is a clear path from me to the bathroom!
I hate this part of the pregnancy aesthetically. Because really, I look 21 lbs heavier than I was just because I have lost the ability to suck in my stomach! (
I am worried about gaining too much weight though. When I delivered DD I was 2 lbs heavier than when I found out I was pregnant.. So I'm hoping it's something like that. I don't want to get too big, because it will just be that much harder to lose it after the baby is here! I'm glad we'll be able to stick together!
Can I rant for a sec? My OB office has an online patient portal where I can look at appointments, lab results, bills, etc. It's great! Except right on the front page (after I log in) it lists problems. I have 2, Maternal Obesity and Advanced Maternal Age. Waaah! I work in medicine, well, veterinary medicine, but still. I know it's not a value judgement, it's just a description. But man, I'm not gonna lie. It kinda stings seeing those every time I log in.
Hey ladies! I'm a size 18/20 and a FTM. I am worried about fitting into clothing when I am further along in my pregnancy. Where do you ladies like to shop? My first pick is torrid but I'm getting bored with their clothing! Plus torrid clothing has to be hung or it will shrink in the dryer ANNOYING!

It kills me seeing "obesity" on the problem list. I won't even let my H look at my paperwork. I'm 5'7", 205lb and I was "normal" (I hate that word) until I went on an SSRI in college. It feels like such a judgment and label, even though I know that's not what it is for any of us!
