@karaepp16 Cabbage Patch dolls...Bop-It...Skip-It...tamagotchi...all your classic 90s kids toys haha. It was only Barbie that my mom would never buy me!
My mom was a school nurse and she also worked on an eating disorder unit at a hospital. So she once had a patient that was obsessed with wanting Barbie's body and my mom was like completely traumatized by that case and was afraid I'd grow up to have body image issues if I played with Barbie. Still struggled with that when I was younger despite being sheltered from Barbie lol.
@JandJ62914 I hope you know I was joking. I understand where your mom was coming from but that's so sad! Do you know what you're having in Jan You can have barbies in your house.
@karaepp16 Oh I know, no worries. I don't know what I'm having yet, but I should find out three weeks from today! That's a good call. I can make up for lost time haha.
I'm sick of the anti-cop mentality in social and regular media. Yeah, there are a few incidents in which cops definitely made horrible mistakes, but the men and women who put their lives on the line daily are my heroes. The military has also killed a TON of innocent people and we don't do the same to them.
I totally agree. I live 5 minutes outside of cinci and it's crazy around here right now.
Like any profession, there are a few bad apples in the bunch. Not all cops are bad. Why is that hard to understand?
Edit: to add, I'm not saying the police officer in the media right now was right or wrong or that he is a bad apple. I just don't think one person should define a whole profession.

Because the ones who are, are clearly stereotyping a certain group of people. No chance of coincidence. :-\"
Superior Officers are not taking responsibility for their subordinates when they do choose to use deadly force. Leaving the subordinates with no accountability.
No one wants an investigation done in their department. So, paid leave is a "slap on the wrist"
I agree there are bad apples in every bunch but the GOOD cops should be able to whistleblow without their jobs being threatened.

Right! "All white cops are racist!" Is equally as bad as "all black peoples are committing crimes".
Come one people! You're fighting racism with stereotyping!
There have obviously been some serious issues with race in our legal system, I'm not denying that. The statistics are staggering. But each case has to be investigated and treated as its own incident.
I'm of the mind that the media is adding fuel to the fire that could potentially blow up a race war. I see both sides of this argument, too. Are there police officers that conduct racial screening? Yes. Are there cops that have to work in downtown low income areas where there are certain races prevalent? Yes. So, it's just a cycle of poverty and criminal activity that leads to these conclusions. I don't have the answers on how to stop criminally inclined youth from poverty stricken areas. You grow up with no money - you see the gangsters have money. You want to make that money.
It's all a very interesting/stressful/heartbreaking society sparked manifestation. This has been in the making for decades and decades.
But back to cops: they are being militarized like never before and they have less accountability than an average citizen. It's creating the perfect storm in urban areas and it's terrifying.
I am of the strong opinion that it also varies by demographic, city, state, region, etc.
I was speaking with a highschool friend who became a cop recently. He stated that he pulls out his gun before any other means of protection/defense. He leaves his tazer in the car. I won't even bring up the other corrupt things he mentioned goes on in his department.
It disgusted me. Even though I lost all respect for him as an officer, I do not believe all behave in this same manor.
I whole heartedly agree they have less accountability, as a whole, on average.
With all that said, I am by no means a cop hater! Each case should be examined individually.
@KaraEpp16 YES! My dad and I were just discussing that last night. It's a vicious cycle of mistrust on both sides. I would say it has to do more with socioeconomic background than race because there have been both white victims and black cops in these cases. But cops automatically assume people in certain areas are up to no good, and the people in those areas assume cops are out to get them. It's very sad.

It's awesome that you have your dad to bounce this kind of stuff around the noodle with. All of that goes on inside my head! I don't really talk to people about societal/political issues because I get so worked up. Writing it all down helps.
And you bring up another good point about the distrust on both sides. Nearly everyone in those "profiled" areas would never think to call 911 until after there has been blood shed. Someone breaks into their home? They go and find out who. Someone steals their property? They take care of it themselves. It's not even necessarily because they are criminally active. They just don't trust the cops in their area to take the report seriously. It's rooted in their history and in their values.
Some people teach their kids to fear the cops from a very young age. I overhear parents all the time say things like "you better behave or the cops will come take you away" which is absolutely not true! I think it is even more common in crime ridden areas. Kids should know that if they are ever in trouble they can ask a cop for help, cops should be the good guys, especially when you are a kid!
@moonpie28 Have you seen the woman who takes old Bratz dolls and gives them a make under? She washes off all the crazy makeup off and clothing and gives them a more natural look and then sells them. It's amazing the way she transforms them!
Pacifiers are a must! Love pacifiers and they reduce the risk of SIDS also. And I still wish sometimes that I hadn't outgrown playing with barbies. I LOVED barbies! Of course I hate that good looking bitch now for keeping her figure all these years so effortlessly but me and my sis used to set up our barbie villages around 6pm then play til we couldn't stay awake any longer at like 4am. I will admit I was probably WAY too old to still be playing. I became a closeted barbie lover in my older days...
Team Pacifier here, too. Like a PP said, they reduce the risk of SIDS (which REALLY freaked me out when DS was born since he hit all of the bigger risk factors - male, born in winter, under 4 months). Plus anything that helped him sleep that first year was a godsend! DD didn't want to have anything to do with them, though.
I volunteer for Recovery Resources in Ohio which deals with mental illness and addiction; the heroin epidemic is out of control. However, there was a recent bill passed in Ohio that will allow OTC purchase of a "drug" (can't remember the name offhand) that you can administer to someone having an overdose that sends them into acute withdrawal, it's absolutely lifesaving and is non-addictive. Doesn't solve the problem but it'll prevent deaths. The drug issue isn't something to society can arrest it's way out of, prisons are NOT mental health institutions but they're basically treated as such.
So many people close to me have battled and even overcome mental illness and addiction. It's amazing to see someone become the best version of themselves once they're free of it.
Anyway I have 2 UOs. 1. I hate when people play the anxiety card. Especially if they start a sentence with "I have anxiety about ___" . No, you don't. Anxiety is a legit mental health issue. You don't get to pick what gives you anxiety. You either have DIAGNOSED anxiety or you are feeling ANXIOUS about something. It's ok to be anxious about something. It's not ok to claim a disorder to get your way. Also, anxious and impatient are not synonymous. I get anxious about test results. I get impatient in traffic.
2. ....I had a second one that had been on my mind all day and I have forgotten it TWICE because PREGNANCY BRAAAAIN. Son of a b.
I REFUSE to convert my pregnancy progress to months for people. For one, I can't quickly do the math because I only track in weeks. Second (and maybe bc I'm a PGAL) but every week to me feels like a milestone. There's no fun in saying I'm 3.5 months, it sounds so early.. then you have to say the same progress point 4 weeks in a row? No thanks. I like that every Weds I'm a new week and baby is a new fruit
I hate Valentine's Day. As a kid it was fine because everyone got cards from your whole class. In middle school/high school, I wasn't exactly popular with the boys and... let's just say it was very easy to find my locker on V-Day. I still remember feeling left out, even now that I've had someone to love/give me gifts for ten years. So we refuse, which works out great because my cat destroys flowers, and my classroom kids give me enough candy to last until Spring Break.
Agreed. I hated it when I was single and everybody was all "Oh, you're just jealous. You'll change your mind once you have someone." Nope. I've been married 5 years to the love of my life and still hate V day. It makes single people feel like crap. It puts pressure on people in relationships. It's a boon to the chocolate industry which is mostly farmed by children in slavery. Not to mention blood diamonds. Nothing about that is actual love. Nope, nope, nope.
So at the farm everyone sits around in the afternoon, drinks beer and does what I call "swapping lies". Normally I love this time in the summer. However, I'm hot, there's a ton of bugs, I don't have a cool refreshing drink and to top it off everyone is talking politics. Now I actually care about politics but today I'm so over going in circles about the same shit. I wanna tell everyone to stfu instead I'm catchin up on TB. :-q
I love valentines day...I love hearts, chocolate and flowers. I'm a sap so it's all my favorite things in one day. I decorate my house and hang hearts in my trees. It's weird I fully admit this

I'm opposite, I'm in between 17-18 and I say almost 4&1/2. To me it's easier than weeks and everyone always asks so I have to convert to weeks in my head. But it's funny cuz I feel like saying months makes me feel further than weeks. Although I still enjoy referencing a new fruit weekly.

Team I hate Vday and not out of jealousy! I have been with my husband 6 years and everyday he is wonderful. I whole heartedly couldn't care less about the day. But I'm odd instead of buying Xmas presents for each other we do something together, like vacation or go to a football game, I don't feel like I miss anything by not doing gifts. However, we will celebrate for kids but that's another topic lol.
Re: UO Thursday
I never have watched a full episode of Real Housewives anything. But I get sucked into Little Women: LA like a 5 year old watching Sesame Street.
