I had my GD test today, after drinking the Orange drink, I felt unbelievably tired. I don't remember feeling that tired when I took it with my first son. Anyone else ?
Was anyone told to follow a particular diet prior to the 3-hour test? The nurse didn't mention it, just said to fast for 10-12 hours prior. I feel as though I have heard people say they were told to limit carbohydrates for a few days prior though.
Failed my 1-hr with a 152. (cutoff was 135) I'll be taking the 3-hour next Wednesday. My mom had GD with my little brother soo we'll see how this goes.
I had a 3 hour test today! I failed the 1 hour with 147.
They never called me with my results but someone peaked at my chart for me. My fasting, 1 hour and 3 hours results were normal. My 2 hour result was high by about 11 "points".
I have no idea if this means I passed or failed. Guess I'll have to wait until Monday to find out when they call.
@leighann1 I wasn't told to follow a certain diet. For the 3 hour test I followed basically the same diet I do (minus ice cream after dinner) and passed. I highly suggest everyone eat a snack before bed (if it's still in the eat window the dr gave you). I didn't eat before bed for the one hour and I almost fainted. I ate a 1/2 bagel with peanut butter and banana before bed for the 3 hour and I felt fine taking the test.
I took mine over a week ago and still haven't gotten a call. I guess that means I passed. I'd still like to know what my score was. They didn't tell me anything prior to taking my test. I didn't realize I needed to possibly fast until reading a lot of the comments on here, so I called back and asked.
I got the lemon lime drink and it was disgusting. I seriously thought I was going to throw it back up. Fortunately, I was able to hold it down. Glad that's over.
I have it! Was bummed but I went to see a Dietician & I check my sugars 2 hours after I eat. I am okay with it. For me, being able to concieve was the biggest battle and I won! And this GD is nothing! Sure I have cheat days but I log my levels bring them to my appointments and I let the Drs decide and determine. Don't be bummed! It is ONLY temporary!
Can I just say I think the language they use for these tests is pretty crappy. What other test do they give us where they report your results as FAIL?? No wonder we all freak out and feel like we've done something wrong.
The more I research it, the more I realize there really is nothing that we can do to pass or fail this test - it's hormonal. Either your body is producing hormones that impact the production of insulin, or it's not. Sure, I'm not going to eat five donuts before the test, but short of that, it doesn't seem like it's a thing we have much or any control over.
Why can't they say "you've screened positive or negative" instead of "you've failed or passed?" No one likes being told they have failed, and the word itself implies there is something we could have done better to affect the outcome.
The question of pass or fail medical language makes me think of my husband's grandfather, who was in the hospital and got a peek at his chart, only to discover it said, "Patient complains of stomach pain." He was really heartbroken to see what he thought was a bad report on his behavior and told the family, "I have NOT been complaining! I have tried to be really polite and quiet the whole time."
I have officially failed my glucose testing. So now I go back for 2 hour one tomorrow, I already know I'm going to fail, last time I wasn't required to fast, but I did cause I don't eat past 8 pm or before 12 pm the next day usually ... Well I failed it, I told the secratary im gonna fail it again probably ! Anyone else ?
I didn't purposely fast for the one hour, just didn't have time for breakfast that morning. And I failed by a long shot. The cut off was 135, and I tested 178. Hopefully I can somehow manage to pass the 3 hour test. Good luck to everyone who still has to take theirs!

I don't eat in the mornings, and I didn't have to fast. I go today for my 2 hour test !

I failed the 1 hour with a 165 score. But passed the 3 hour. So it's possible. I really think not eating for 13 hours before the 1 hour made it worse.

Wouldn't that make me more likely to pass it ? I'm doing the 2 hour testing now, and had to fast for at least 8 hours. Just had my bloodwork taken before the drink, then just took the drink. Now to wait an hour and have my blood taken again, then another hour and have it taken again. Such a long process !
There's hope! I failed the 1-hour with a 149 score but found out I passed the 3-hour easily! I had a snack before bed (scrambled eggs and a 1/4 cup vanilla ice cream) and drank a lot of water before the test because I was worried I wouldn't be able to drink water during the test (my lab actually let me sip water). Good luck ladies!

I doubt there is science behind it but I felt better when I hadn't fasted for so long. I almost fainted for the one hour but felt fine for the 3 hour. The only thing I did differently was eat a snack before bed. I felt the sugar spike and crash during the 1 hr.
@OliveOyl2014 I also made a 178 on my 1hour. I am currently sitting at the Dr. for my 3hr. So far, the first hour has been the worst. I started feeling the sugar spike around 45 min. I hope to pass this time! Good luck to you and everyone else taking the 3 hour test!

I was talking to a friend who is in her last year of pharmacy school, and the first thing she said was "don't fast!" because it makes your blood sugar spike too much. She said the best thing to do was to eat normally. Seems counterintuitive, but it sort of makes sense to my non-sciency brain.

@MrsFaust1432 We're having the same morning! My lab tech assured me the first hour is the worst, and I am definitely queasy. I'm almost done with the first hour. Good luck to you

This 3 hour test is DEATH. It's awful. I had to fast for 8 hours and couldn't get an appt til 10am! My son has me up and going by 7, so I had to make him breakfast of course. I'm STARVING! I failed the 1 hour with a 167 and a 139 cut off I had a breakfast sandwich with ketchup an hour before so I'm hoping that spiked my sugar. I didn't have GD with my son 4 years ago so hopefully I pass this time. I'm so hungry and queasy and CRANKY...and I have to be here for 2 more hours UGHHHHHHHHHHHH
I got an office call yesterday, but it turned out they still can't get my address right and I had to correct it again(I swear I have to tell most places my address at least 3-5 times before they get it right, and it's always something dumb like they didn't put my apartment number lol)... hopefully since that's the only reason they had to call I wont be getting a call that I failed my test.
My husband has to be at a show for a few days so I was trying to plan easy meals(no cooking yay!!!!!!!) for myself, and when I started thinking about what I'd choose it'd be a lot of cereal and pb&j... just would suck if I end up with mostly sugary/high in carbs food to last while he's gone, just find out after today or tomorrow when we have a chance to shop that I shouldn't be eating the things I got.
I'm 2 hours into my 3 hour test right now. I was told to fast 12 hours. Got to the lab at 7am, had the drink, threw up a little at 8:45. Cool! They couldn't get a hold of my doctor so another doctor made the decision to keep on going with the test. I hate this test!! (
I'm 2 hours in (1 more draw to go) and knock on wood, no problems. I'm thirsty more than anything, they said nothing, not even water to drink during the test. It's really not that bad, but I know everyone is different. I can't wait, one more hour and I am going to get the largest, coldest beverage I can get my hands on!!
I think sitting there in a waiting room, unable to do much during the test messes with people's minds. I'm lucky, I work in the same building and have been going back to my desk in between draws.
@VioletandRose no water?! The lab tech told me water might make me more nauseous in the beginning, but I've been sipping on my 20 ounces this whole time. That stinks that they won't let you.
@leighann1 yep I asked, no water during. They asked if I drank water beforehand and I said yes; the tech hesitated but went on with the test anyway. I could swear the doc said I could drink water. I was dying this morning, it was 90 degrees, I needed something to drink! If they didn't let me take the test I swear I would have gone postal.
I just had my 2 hour test done and have my blood taken 3 times, one before the drink, one an hour after the drink, and one 2 hours after. All done and waiting for my results, probably get them tomorrow morning. I wasn't allowed to drink water before or during my exam, and wasn't allowed to walk around either.
I'm going for the 3 hour tomorrow... we'll see! I'm a little anxious but at the same time I'll be relieved when it's over, one way or another!
Did you fast for the one hour test and fail ?
Yes, my doctor told me to eat a balanced breakfast but I didn't have time... Just wanted to get to the lab and get it done. Wish I'd had at least a little something. Had the 3 hour today, so we'll see. It wasn't half as bad as I imagined it would be!
Had the 1 hour screen today... Nearly passed out halfway through... Not sure if it was the drink or that my mw's office was warm... Fingers xed for negative result!

~~~~~block quote fail.
That is my normal eating lol.
