Boo. Took the 1-hour test yesterday at 4 PM and found out today I failed. I think they said I got a 149 and it needed to be between 70 and 140 (if I am remembering correctly).
I was pretty surprised I didn't pass. I am right on target with the weight gain the doctor wants to see and baby was measuring right on schedule at the 20-week ultrasound, felt fine drinking the drink, no real symptoms or hints that anything could be wrong until now!
Need to schedule the follow-up 3 hour test... wish me luck!
@krysta6 it definitely started to hurt. They'll ask how it's feeling before they keep going for the same area. I didn't care about drinking the drink, I cared about the draws. I have super deep veins no matter how much water I drink it sucks!
Question for everyone... I took the 1 hour test last Friday at Quest and haven't heard anything. My next appointment is this Friday, so I am wondering if I will find out then. But it seems like most of you found out pass or fail right away. When do you typically get your results?
I took the test on a Thursday and didn't want to wait until my next appointment the following Wednesday. I calked the nurse's line at my ob/gyn and asked for the result the next day (it takes a day for the lab).
Question for those of you diagnosed, or previously diagnosed with GD. Did you have any "symptoms"? Was your baby measuring really big? Did you feel a certain way after eating fruits or sweets? I have been craving fruits and sweets like crazy. Still have to go in for my test, probably tomorrow...
Finished my 1 hour test. Hoping to NOT hear from my doctor's office until my next appointment because that will mean I passed. Is it bad that I want a donut now?!
@margies2010 I ate an english muffin with egg and chicken sausage right after so I had a little something in my belly and don't feel like crap anymore...Now I'm going to dunkin donuts!! Can't control the urge! HAHA

I had no symptoms or feelings. I failed. I am having twins so all the extra hormones are really messing with my system, apparently. My doctor told me my babies are on the bigger size, but said it was because I put on too much weight too quickly. My gain has slowed majorly since about week 20, and I wasn't diagnosed until 28 weeks. @VioletandRose
Haven't had my test yet.. already nervous about the needles.. and if I fail and have to take the three hour and get even more needles oh godddd they aren't going to be happy!!! I hate getting my blood taken and I hate seeing my own blood.. I might just pass out or throw up all over the phlebotomist! Oops!!
You will be fine @eheba. It really wasn't as bad as everyone says it is. Just felt like crap afterward from the sugar high. I hate getting my blood drawn as well. I was so happy the girl who did my lab today was great, didn't even feel it. She should draw mine everytime! Good luck!
I just did my 3 hour test and it was not that bad because I slept almost the entire time!!! My appt was at 7am so I was very sleepy, they had a bed just in case I felt bad. I wasnt feeling bad, just sleepy. I am hoping I do pass this test. My baby is just on the average weight and I have gained only 12 pounds and Im 26w5d. I really hope my 1 hour test was just a false positive
I failed the one hour yesterday. I ate protein-heavy with light carbs and was told to avoid all sweets. And the tech said I barely failed. So three hour next week... Which I work ten hour days and I'm saving all my time for maternity leave so how I'm going to fit that in is beyond me. And you have to fast completely before and during the test which is probably going to mean a giant migraine for me! Man screw this crap - they didn't have to do this centuries ago and we still populated!

I always take my tests on Saturday morning. Maybe you can find a lab that is open weekends?
star8627 I found out the same evening, the test results were posted into my online medical record
Wow I wish we could view our medical records online !! I go for my glucose testing one week from today, and then have to wait till August 6th(next dr app) to find out my results, although they will call me if something is wrong !
@amberrmariee20 Same here. Just had mine today and they said I'd only hear from them if my iron was low or if I failed the glucose test. So no news is good news.
I'm pretty sure I can view mine online at some point though, just now sure how quickly they upload the data into our portal. I remember with the initial blood work I was able to see it, but it wasn't right away.
I went yesterday and found out today I got a 132 which I thought meant I passed, according to everything I have seen .I had my test late in the day and just ate light and no sugar throughout the day. Anyways my doc just called saying they were abnormal bc he retests anyone over 129 so now I have to get the 3 hr next week.anyone else dealing with this?

So interesting. My result was 132 (with fasting). My doctor's cutoff us 135, so I technically passed. I am going to push for another test, because I am worried about having it (and I have excess amniotic fluid which can be caused by GD).
1) The fruit punch wasn't *that* bad... like an overly saturated fruit punch powered.
2) After I had my labs, my doctor told me that "it's pretty much the same thing as having two snickers and a coke." WHY COULDN'T I JUST DO THAT??!?!?!!!
Did you guys skip sugar the day before? I'm not going to lie I really want an ice cream sandwich right now but my test is at 7am tomorrow! Do I dig into my will power?
ETA: haha my husband just said we are all out! I guess I'm forced to behave tonight!
@Krysta6 - I sat down with the bag of Brownie Brittle and ate wayyyy more than the law should allow right at 1030 last night, and my test started at 830 this morning. I still passed!
Just found out I passed my 1 hr glucose! Woot woot! Not trying to brag but I was concerned, both my parents have diabetes and that was not a hurdle I was looking forward to- luck and good thoughts to all of you out there waiting!
I'm at my 3 hour test, less than an hr to go. Anyone who is going to take it I suggest eating a snack before bed! I don't usually eat before bed so I think that's why I felt terrible for the 1 hr test. Of course make sure it is within the fasting guidelines your OB gave you! But I feel fine and I almost fainted during the 1 hr
About to take my 1-hour test. Doc said I didn't have to fast, but I want to just to be on the safe side. Then as I was laying in bed this morning I remembered that at 5am I couldn't sleep and came downstairs and ate a peanut butter fiber one bar. That was 5 hours ago. I might wait one more hour, because the lab is walk-in, and in the same building that I work. I'm being paranoid....
I'm on the last hour of my 3 hour test and I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Ugh I can't wait until I am done being poked. I'm getting the biggest coffee and a pastry and a breakfast sandwich because who knows if this will be my last chance to!
I wish the 1 hour and 3 hour tests were more standardized. It sounds like every physician/lab has different guidelines. Many of you have said the cut off is 140 for passing the 1 hour test, my doctor told me yesterday it's 130. Also, there are so many variations on whether you should eat or fast before the test.

Unfortunately, you'll find that most every doctor and hospital lab use different "normal" ranges. It has to go off the normal for the population of the area, so while we may have higher/lower values for some analytes here in the south, someone from a different region may have different normal ranges for the same analytes. Also, it varies based on the type of instrument used to obtain the results. Offices that send to a lab and don't give immediate results may have a more "specific" answer because of methodology, and may also adjust for the travel time if a certain tube is used as only a certain anticoagulant actually stops the cells from utilizing sugar. As long as there are differing methodologies, the ranges will always vary slightly.
I agree 100% about getting on the same page with fasting/non-fasting. That ish drives me crazy.
@FrozenMommy - Ha! I just LOL'D about the CA comment. During my lab clinicals, we learned of certain areas where some food items are staples (I'm in Louisiana), you have some analytes that are naturally higher. Here, it's usually glucose (we love our sweet tea) and cholesterol (we love our butter and bacon grease). While the *healthy* range may still be about the same from area to area, the "normal" can vary quite a bit.
That is an interesting theory because while I may live in the south, I probably don't eat the same foods as many southerners. Didn't grow up here. Don't think it makes sense to base it on region, but I have no control over that.

Well that does kinda make sense. Like I eat a LOT of avodacos. And some places in the US I hear don't even get them?? And I do use a lot of paleo things as well. Coconut oil and flour, nut flours and such. Fresh produce is literally at every corner here. So yes I guess that things can very.
Re: Glucose test concerns go in here

Also my OB didn't specify how long to fast.. What did everyone else's OB say?
I had to fast for 8 hours.

I'm 30 minutes into my three hour and feel like total death. This ish is ridic.
Sorry, just needed a quick vent. :-&

They just pricked my finger and told me right then that I failed. I hope I find out results the same day as the 3 hour as well!
