My little one is 3 weeks and in 3 month clothing! It's crazy! The 0-3 months are now so stretched out and tight on him. He was awesome last night, thank goodness, because the night before was rough. He has spit up his vitamin D supplement two days in a row. DH and I are going to try giving it on an empty stomach tonight right before a feeding. Feels mean but seems to be the only way he'll swallow it down.

Awesome to those of you who took time for yourself. I feel bad but I usually find a quick errand to run when DH gets home from work. Lol. So jealous of those in normal jeans. I ordered linen shorts from old navy that I've been wearing daily. Still can't get in pre pregnancy stuff.
  • My LO is 4 weeks old on Thursday and still wanting to sleep a ton during the day. Anyone know the average they are awake at this stage?
  • @amccoy129 my girls would spit up the D drops every time too.. I'm pumping and bottle feeding, so our pedi told us to put it in the bottle and it's working much better! The doctor isn't concerned if they don't finish the entire bottle, as long as they get some in their systems its better than none, so not sure if you're bottle or EBF but that's what works for us!
  • Pretty sure someone switched out my baby for another. After 4 weeks of zero day naps..I tried following the EASY schedule (eat, activity, sleep, you time) and she followed it to a T. Wtf. After eating I kept her up for 45-an hour just by singing etc, then I swaddled her arms and bounced her until I saw she was drowsy and put her in the RNP. So weird. Now hopefully she keeps up her sleeping at night per usual...

Also I definitely have thrush. Shooting pains in my boobs and itchy nips. Ugh.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • So whenever LO has to poop or has gas she gets so fussy and starts screaming. Is this normal?? I know their bodies aren't used to the pressure and it could take a few months but I feel horrible when she's screaming over it and it can take like 20 minutes for her to calm down after farting or pooping.
Idk what to do. We switched to our day feedings as formula a few weeks ago and she eats it well but has a lot of gas and I'm not sure if it's normal or not. Ugh I'm wondering if I should let it go or call the Ped?
  • Any ideas for playtime with baby. LO is 3 weeks old today and in the past few days he's gotten so alert - looking all around him, tracking objects, lifting his head up. I usually spend that time talking and making faces at him but I'm not sure if that's enough now.

I laid a blanket on his bedroom floor today for tummy time and also had him lay on his back while I read him a few books and let him look at the pages. I know he can't see well yet, but he did seem interested in looking at the pages.

My LO has been the same way. Our pediatrician recommended gas drops. They have helped. We also do some belly massage and bicycle his legs. DH also found a more effective way to burp him. There are still times LO has gas but it doesn't seem as bad.

I bought gripe water and it didn't seem to do too much and she would always end up spitting up a few minutes after. Wondering if I should try them again?

I use both gripe water and mylicon gas drops, and find that they work better if given before the gas occurs. I've discovered that LO inevitably gets gas between 5 pm and 2 am, so, before the bottle I give the drops or gripe water and wait as long as she'll allow before giving her the bottle. It works ten times better when used to prevent, in my experience. Goodluck with your little ones!

Thanks! I just don't know if we should switch formulas now or what. Ugh I'm at a loss.

check out the Wake Time Activities thread. I got a lot of good ideas from it. I've been taking my LO on walks and into the yard, showing him things.

We've been putting the drops in the bottles. I wonder if giving it to her "straight" would be more effective for us?

@katyertl I do think it's normal per our doc but always call if you aren't comfortable! I HATE seeing my little girl in so much gas pain despite us giving her gas drops and doing bicycle legs :(

I was just going to ask if you had considered switching formulas? A friend at church had a similar problem with her LO, and switching formulas seemed to help. Hers was partly spitting up and that sort of tummy trouble, though.

We switched from Enfamil to Similac because Enfamil has Palm oil, which some say is hard to process. Gas pains went down a bit for a few days but are back. Just some anecdotal experience. Anyone else have a suggestion for formula? I know there are ones for gas, but they tend to be lactose free, and we didn't want to try those without speaking to our doc.

I was actually thinking about trying out another brand starting tomorrow but it makes me nervous. I'd hate to put her body through the change again. But we've been on this formula for almost 3 weeks and it's just not improving. She does ok most of the time but idk. I wonder if we switch do we just switch it all together or what

Question- he is now 8 lbs. I want to start baby k'tan with him. Kangaroo position won't work because he likes to stretch his legs out. Would the hug position be appropriate or does he need to be older?

You've probably already figured out what your LO likes, but I have a ;eg stretcher too and he does fine with kangaroo, even though he might fuss a little bit while he settles in and gets comfortable. Love the k'tan... I was so excited I started using it before 8 pounds, had to keep washing it so it stayed snug.

    Just hit three weeks today!
LO is gaining weight and doing well, but he spits up often, through his nose and mouth. I've been up for the last hour and a half after our last feeding holding him and walking him around because every time I lay him down he spits up in his bassinet.
Any suggestions? I'm running out of clean swaddlers and onesies and burp cloths..

Were you using a nipple shield due to inverted nipples or just for a better latch? I'm trying to wean my baby girl off of it but I don't know if it is even possible for her to latch on (without pain) since I have flat nipples.

Thanks! I actually wound up contacting baby k'tan and found that we can do the hug position since LO just wasn't having it in Kangaroo. Here is their response:

"Although our manual says that the Hug Position generally starts around 2 months, this is simply an average. Many individuals and babies prefer to start this hold earlier on or even skip the Newborn Kangaroo position all-together and go straight to the Hug Position. This is based on personal comfort and preference. In the Hug Position, baby's head can be supported by one of the loops by your shoulder and you simply adjust the fabric between baby’s legs to spread it open as wide/narrow as needed. This user submitted video has some great tips on using the Hug Position with a newborn - https://youtu.be/13g-KtS5VVA."

FYI Similac Sensitive is lactose-free. We didn't want to try that without talking to the doc first.
  • @hoodoll82 oh ok! I was gonna call them today Anyways and see what they say. Thanks!!
  • We have a pedi appt next week so I'll be sure to ask this there, but we just switched our girls to similac sensitive. But is it possible that the sensitive formula makes them fart more?? I feel like since switching they pass gas a lot more, but they don't seem to be in pain or fussy anymore? I thought the sensitive was to eliminate the gas? Ugh, so lost on this subject and finding what works best
  • @beckyk9109 I was wondering the same thing!!! I don't know how to explain it but it makes sense that it might make them more gassy.

  • @katyertl so your LO has the same thing?? It seems like it makes it easier on my girls. Granted, the gas is pretty loud and powerful now, but I guess that's better than them being in pain
