  • I make no claim to have done research on baby wearing. I am sure there are benefits, otherwise why do it. I just see it and think A) I am WAAAY too much of a sweaty betty for that to ever be comfortable for me or baby. B) I am guessing most people don't use them correctly because their baby does not look comfortable at all, I am pretty sure their limbs shouldn't be turning colors. C) it makes my back throb just looking at it.

    Again just my opinion.

The leash thing just reminds me of a dog that that isn't good at taking walks yet, mom is pulling one way, kid is pulling another way and I just picture a dog pulling on a leash yelping and going crazy.
  • @komorebi Yes! My father out here in California calls anything grilled BBQ. I hate anything BBQ, so it drives me nuts! Just call it grilled
@BrooklynBroussard this may be a California thing. We always said barbequed chicken growing up when really it was just grilled. Probably because BBQ is not really a big thing in a lot of places in CA.

    @BrooklynBroussard

Same here.  We own two of our own (american bulldog and Staffordshire Bull Terrier) and currently I have one more foster Cane Corso until the new owner moves end of July.  We are big bully breed advocates and foster them since many times they are the breeds filling up the shelters.  Our dogs were our kids before having actual humans and for some reason I keep expanding that part of our family and think I need to save all the animals!

This is probably unpopular, but I'm excited to use some of the zingers I've been saving up in my mind as retorts to people who make terrible comments to me--but no one has said anything bad enough for me to use them!

Not that I'm complaining about people generally being lovely folks (in fact, it rocks!), but I want to use at least ONE zinger for the stupid question/ belly rub/ ridiculous comment by a stranger!

Is that weird? It's weird. Whatever. I'm sure when I'm a balloon in Septemebr I'll get my chance!

What are some that you have?

Before I was a mom, I thought the leash was weird too. Another mom said to me, "Then you have never lost your child at Disney World." True dat. I still have never used a leash, nor been to Disney World, but I get it.
    Definitely this.

My family used leashes with my nephews when they were toddlers. We only used them at places like Disneyland or Airports. I don't like seeing when kids are walking right next to a parent all the way through Disneyland because then it does look like they are being dragged but when you are waiting in line or waiting at the airport gate it is a huge help. Toddlers do not want to be held all the time and a little room to explore makes them a lot happier. One of my nephews loved his leash. The other one wasn't the biggest fan but preferred it over being held or being stuck in the stroller.

Our ST is.  We got him when he was only 6 months and came from a very bad situation.  Our American Bulldog is somewhat of a rescue.  She is the sister of our last AB that passed away two years ago.  These owners were moving to NYC and knew we had the brother and called us to take her.  We gladly accepted and it was like a sign since we had lost the brother 6 months prior.  Like humans, the brother/sisters very much remind of us each other.  I'm with you on the dog lover thing, dogs are an excellent judge of character and if you don't like them and they don't like you, well I am watching "you."

Ok, now this makes so much more sense.

oh goodness yes, this was pretty much me when I went to college. But it turns out I love ribs!
  • One more thought on science, the thing is some people actually understand the process, the strengths, the weaknesses and the limitations and other people just happen to believe what is commonly accepted but could never argue their position. I think that bothers me. And also demanding supporting evidence when the only evidence they put out are news articles. This isn't a bump specific thing. Facebook peeps are driving me insane with it.

Ha! @BrooklynBroussard nobody would have ever guessed that you enjoy derailed\derailing threads.

P.S. that is said with the most sarcastic love ever because I think you're hilarious and I love your gifs
  • Well I'm so science, obviously. @BrooklynBroussard
  • I fully intend to baby wear but I'll admit I'm a first timer so who knows if it's going to work for us but I'll give it a good try and hope for the best!

I fully despised the baby leashes until I had a child and realized that while I may never use one I get the purpose. My son could have been the poster child for these things he was the definition of hyper as a toddler! Funny enough he would see kids wearing them and ask me for one! He wanted a bear backpack like the other kids. So while they aren't for me I try not to judge when I see them, at least the parent cares.

As for my previous post on not washing the baby clothes I get all the reasons they suggest you do it, I really do but unless my kid has a skin sensitivity I usually don't stress about it that much. Honestly aside from underwear I don't wash my clothes or my older kids clothes before wearing them. I know I'm also a walking contradiction because I'm a big germ-phobe when it comes to illnesses but I've never come across anyone or heard of anyone who caught a disease from a new garment of clothing. In a way we all contradict ourselves in one thing or another when it comes to health and cleanliness. I know if I picked up my kid from daycare and they were wearing a shirt with spaghetti stains and I had somewhere to go right after I have been known to buy a cheap shirt at target because I can't stand my kids looking dirty! I'm not running home to wash it obviously because if I had time to go home I'd just get a clean shirt from home. I dunno maybe that makes me discusting to some but for me it's not a huge issue.

@SweetnSassy23 Not that I would be crossing my legs if baby decided she just wanted to come a bit early, but how would thinking that 37 weeks is full term even be a thing? I was my mom's first baby and I came at around 37 weeks, but although I was considered healthy and ready, I was also most certainly early.

I should clarify that I am genuinely asking because I am confused and if people actually think this, I'm on the same page with you.

It's old school thinking. The guidelines were actually just changed within the past year (I think). I forget the new terms but 40 is full term and 37 is early term?

39-41 weeks is now considered "full term." This is recent, as my son was considered "full term" being born 2 days shy of 37 weeks.

Still, what this means is a baby born at this stage will probably be fully developed and not have any major issues or need time in the NICU. It doesn't mean time to induce labor . . .

  • I finally have a few which have already been mentioned: *I am beginning to hate the name posts and agree with pp's opinions on checking out the specific name board. Also that I participate in the polls because I don't believe my opinion should really count, therefore I don't state it. *The whole "how long are you really pregnant debate" between weeks and months annoys me terribly. Also I believe that no one can truly pin point the exact moment of conception. In my opinion all ultrasounds and LMP predictions and even E.D.D are very professional educated guesses. I'm a FTM and if I'm pregnant two weeks over I will not bitch and moan. I believe that letting your body take a natural course; with the exception that your not putting you or baby in danger, is the best route. *Weight posts: I just can't. EVERY SINGLE BODY AND PREGNANCY IS DIFFERENT. I begin to side eye people who seem to start them just to flaunt that they haven't gained a pound. I use this term lightly because I really don't know anyone's intention. It's just the way I interpret the thread To me it's odd and another way women back handedly are judgy.
I "loved it" a bazillion times, but it really just means I loved it, didn't love it, loved it, didn't love it...well you get it. I couldn't agree more about each of your points. :)

I don't like the phrase "I can't wait until xyz." Yes, yes you can, and you will! What you mean is "I'm looking forward to xyz." "Excited about xyz." "Anticipating xyz." Also I wish that "crazy," "insane," "mental," etc. would not be used so frequently and casually. Rarely do they capture what the speaker means and I think it's offensive. Language is a glorious tool box. Let's stop pulling out the same tired hammer and screwdriver.
@BBaires I applaud your appreciation for word choice and language. I am sorry to say that I've found myself caring less about it when I post here at times. Sometimes I feel like if I write the way the majority of people write, then they'll appreciate what I've said more. I'll clean it up now that I know someone is watching. ;)

This is totally irrational but weave..sew ins...extensions...fake hair and lashes are so bizarre and gross to me. I literally puke in my mouth if I can see the tracks/clips for your fake hair. JUST GROW YOUR OWN!!

Yes! And then when you're walking through a parking lot and find weave? Like how did it get so lost?

The parking lot and sometimes the grass of my apartment community is constantly littered with pieces of hair extensions and weaves . . . Gross!

  • This is my first UO I typically just read and occasionally like but damnit its been a long week.

I am a FTM and may eat my words some day...

Baby backpacks/carriers whatever the hell you want to call them drive me insane. You look ridiculous, your baby looks uncomfortable as fuck and I just don't get it. Yes you have your hands free but you also appear to be suffocating your baby and cutting off blood supply to all it's extremities.  The hippy slings don't bother me as much but still.

Its right up there with kids on leashes...

Again, i don't know your situation mama and am FTM myself but its my opinion right? ;)

I would've side-eyed any mom with her kid on a leash before I had my own, but my toddler LIKES his "pack-pack." It's got about 2 diapers, some wipes and a Go Go Squeeze applesauce pouch in it at any given time, so it weights maybe 2 lbs. I don't make him carry it if he gets tired, but he asks to!

  • @BrooklynBroussard Yes, yes, and yes a million times over. In that I completely agree, most people who get full of seemingly blind rage must be filling a void. Or it is definitely past the point of a debate, and fully turns into an "I am right and will keep attacking you until you submit" type conversation.
