So I called the pedi today to discuss LO's grunting while asleep and she had me come in to the clinic. Checked him out and said he has a mild case of reflux. Pretty normal, no need for medication unless it worsens and he has trouble breathing etc.

She recommended for him to sleep at an incline and cleared for him to sleep in his rock n play which I'm so happy about since he sleeps much better there anyways. Also has me breastfeeding at a different angle.

Hope we can get some better sleep tonight!

Our daughter grunts while she's sleeping! Just took it as gas or pooping
    Now I'm worried!
  • @HayesRN13 ugh I feel ya. If I didn't have a pacifier my boob would have to be in there. I don't have the mental toughness for that right now!

What angle was recommended? I'm interested in trying this. DS1 had reflux but we choose not to medicate. I am not sure yet on DS2 but it looks like we are in the same boat. Right now I am just holding him upright for 10 minutes after each feeding.

The same thing happened to me at the end of my first week. It's normal from hormones to get that way from what I understand. I also developed mastitis though the next week so watch for that!
  • @HayesRN13 ugh I feel ya. If I didn't have a pacifier my boob would have to be in there. I don't have the mental toughness for that right now!

Ugh he won't even take a pacifier.. I'm trying
  • @hayesrn
I feel ya. LO will only take a pacifier on rare occasions and it's never when I reeeally need him to.
  • @SarahBaby87 My LO was also born at 6 lb 11 oz, left hospital at 6 lb 3 oz. At my 2 day check she was 6 lb 4 oz & ped & LC were very happy she gained since leaving the hospital. They told me babies usually lose. I'm EBF too & there were no concerns.
  • I am so. jealous. you ladies get pain meds. Germans, man! Here, the pharmacists advise you on pain meds, even OTC stuff Is locked away. So I asked for the equivalent of Tylenol when I was a few days post partum, and could barely move. Lady gave me a huge lecture about how bad it is for baby's liver to be taking one a day! So DH freaked out on me, and I cried and said, "if you felt this bad, I guarantee you would take at least one F'ing Tylenol a day. This is RIDICULOUS!"

Dr. Google proved me right, but the paranoia damage was done. So I've taken 10 Tylenol in my 14 days post partum. And I'm a redhead, so one Tylenol does shit for me, I need two at a time to feel anything. Ah well, it's getting better now.

On the other topic, they told me LO had 10-14 days to regain his birth weight. Took him 5, so @SarahBaby87 good job on knowing when to ignore that crap!

Thanks, @dancegurl1118 on the diaper advice!!
  • Ugh LO can't stay awake during night time feedings. It's nice that they are short, but she will only eat an ounce or so before dozing off... Which means she will be up again in an hour. And mommy too. Any advice on how to make her stay awake to eat more?
  • I was doing the football hold position but she told me to switch to the cradle position at a 45 degree angle. Tried it tonight but gonna need more practice!
  • @hoodoll82 currently my battle. She's dead asleep and it's been 4.5 hours since her last feed...if I try to wake her up she will have a crappy feed and not really be all awake either regardless of what I do. However, I'm sure the second I get up to pump she will wake up ravenous.

This is my first night with a wide awake LO. How do I put her to sleep ladies?? She's content and not crying, just wide eyed and bushy tailed. I've tried every different hold, rocking, bouncing, singing, pacifer, no pacifier..
  • @kkdb14 if she's happy I'd swaddle her and put her in the bassinet and just let her be. And try and close your eyes. She'll let you know when she's had enough..

Just dropped in to share an accomplishment. Hmmm yes, I will call it that. I had a Dos Equis Beer tonight with my hubby. He cheersed me and said thanks honey for carrying this girl (LO) that he was rocking. It was a special moment. The accomplishment was surviving pregnancy #2 without losing my mind and the celebration was having an adult beverage when I hadn't had one the whole pregnancy. The reward is my daughter!

Ahh I am looking forward to my first glass of wine in almost 10 months. Cheers!

Just be happy there is no crying or screaming.. I love LOs alert/awake times... He's just now starting to not be asleep constantly.... Enjoy it
    :D
  • @hoodoll82 I've had luck undressing the baby to wake him to feed

You don't! Sorry to say this but for both my boys I had to wait about 6 weeks before they really figured out day and night. And when they were bright eyed like that it just meant we stayed up. Hopefully you are in week one or two? That's when this was the worse for us. Now its just the hours between 9 and 11 and usually sometime in the early morning we have to contend with this.

If you are exhausted put them someplace safe, swing etc and lie down next to it. Last night my husband was dozing in the rocking chair and rocking LO in the rock n' play with his foot for an hour or two. This morning LO was kicking his arms and legs on the rug next to me sleeping. If he's feed and dry but up and crying we rock and bounce him until he sleeps but if he's happy we let him stay awake and keep the stimulus low so he learns its night time.

  • You could try white noise or really loud sshhing. So tired I forgot but this is the only way I've ever gotten one of my boys from happy awake/alert to asleep. Holding them upright I sshish loudly right by their ear and walk/bounce around the house. Honestly they usually wake back up as soon as I stop if they aren't ready to sleep.

  • Is anyone else struggling to poop? I finally thought I was getting back to normal(ish) after I stopped taking pain meds but no. I'm two weeks PP and can't poop for the life of me. I'm taking Colace but I'm not sure what else to do. Any ideas?

Yep, I am. And when I do it is NOT fun thanks to hemorrhoids. I've just been sucking it up, but I'd be interested in suggestions too

  • LO woke up around 430 to eat and has since fallen back to sleep and I've been laying here wide awake. What is wrong with me! Also we switched to using dr. Browns bottles and I think he is a much happier baby. I'm noticing a lot less crying anyway. I recommend them to anyone who is bottle feeding.

Maybe try a different brand. My oldest DD liked the MAM ones. This LO hated those and only likes the soothie ones. Try a couple different shapes.
  • @cheriep3 & @kes166 have you tried Miralax? I was told you can take that and ducolax as they work in different ways.
@ktwilki5 I'm struggling with the same thing. Finally fell asleep but then my alarm woke me up shortly after that to feed the baby. I was so exhausted I kept hitting the snooze button for an hour & 20 min til LO woke up on her own wanting to eat. I feel so bad cause I let her go too long between feedings (this has happened a couple other times). Just so exhausted.

Anyone else trying to manage a chronic illness with the demands of caring for their newborn? My joint pain is really flaring up & I just hurt all over. I'm still taking ibuprofen around the clock almost 1 month pp but still hurting more than my usual. It's so hard to know how best to care for my LO while keeping my health in mind. I don't want my disease to flare up so bad I can't take care of her the way I need to. Think I should probably make my DH take a night feeding one of these nights so I could sleep a little more. I'm EBF but DH tried a bottle with LO the other day with some breast milk & she did fine with it.

It got a million times better around week 3 for me. I actually had a really upset stomach and was the opposite of constipated (sorry, tmi) for a few days. Ever since (the last 4 or 5 days) I've been back to pretty much normal. I kept taking softeners after I stopped my painkillers though, so maybe that had to do with it.
  • Thanks @virginiaunicorn11! DH has been cooking since we got home last week and he's been very good at making sure we're eating balanced meals with veggies and a protein and a starch etc. and I've also been trying to avoid foods that I remember from last time causing DD discomfort but I should probably check out those lists again-thanks for the advice!

@henrytviii I'm on week four as of tomorrow. I ended up getting her to sleep around 2 am after giving her an additional ounce and a half. I feel almost bad doing that, because there's always the risk of making them spit up like crazy or have an upset stomach, but it always seems to work. She's going through a growth spurt and jumped from 3 oz to 4 the other day, so last night she got 5.5. Luckily I knew that would keep her down for longer than the 90 minutes she's been giving me the past few days, and I was right. A nice little 3 hour spurt for the first time since Monday :D
  • Anyone get extremely nauseous about a week PP?
I'm feeling awful & don't want to eat, which I know is not good for LO. Any tips?

YES! Chronic pain is the worst and a lack of sleep makes it 100 times worse. I'm also doing ibuprofen but i've got to figure out how to get to a better normal. I feel your pain. Feel better!

White noise has been helpful with my LO...

ETA: this is when he is fussy and awake at night. If he is awake and content (very rare) we just let him be.
