hey everyone :)
I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread about our nurseries where we can all share our favorite ideas for color palettes, do it yourself projects and anything else!!
Our own little Pinterest board lol.
I'm thinking Coral, turquoise and yellow for my baby girl!
The only do it yourself ideas I have are painting wooden letters spelling her name over The crib.
What are you guys thinking for your LOs???

I've only got turquoise, elephants, and white furniture decided so far.  Bouncing back and forth for the accent colors.  I'm having a little girl, but not sure if I want to do "girl colors."  I'm considering a nursery in a closet idea and am pretty sure I'm going with a mini crib over a traditional one.  My mother is going to make a twin size quilt we can use while cuddling and nursing and later when she transitions to a regular bed..  It's not quite diy, but it's not store bought.  The bedding sets they sell are expensive and useless since you can't use the bumpers or the horribly stiff quilt.  I've also looked into how to make your own mobiles or doing a hanging pompom thing over the crib because the prices for cute mobiles are ridiculous imo.

ETA: @lraubaugh You have the color palette my mother is pushing for me to use.  It's very pretty, but I think I want to go bolder.

  • I'm having a boy, but we are planning to have another at some point so we painted the nursery pale green to keep it gender neutral and our big pieces (crib, dresser, chair) will all be gender neutral. Our overall theme is dinosaurs. I did a cross stitch sampler with dinosaurs, my mom is making a quilt with dinosaurs and my grandmother is crocheting some stuffed dinosaurs. I also found dinosaur mattress sheets and those removable sticker things to put on the wall. My mom and I also made a growth chart out of a fence slat - something I saw on Pinterest.
  • I'm addicted to Pinterest nursery ideas right now. Regardless if it's a boy or girl, I'd like all white furniture. Our 2nd bedroom has only one window, so I thought the white furniture would brighten up the room. I really love some of the travel/hot air balloon themes I've seen online, and it could work for either boy or girl. I also like fox/woodland themes with orange and navy blue. I'm really undecided at the moment, but once we know the sex it will be much easier to start planning.

  • We haven't (and may not) find out the sex of the baby so I'm planning something neutral, thinking grays and aqua, with white furniture. No real theme in mind yet, like @modanz1 said I don't want anything too baby-ish, but I have seen some nice aspen tree designs and hot air balloons that are cute without being over the top.
  • We are having a boy! I am keeping things simple this time as I went a little over board on my DD's nursery. We already have dark furniture and a linen glider. I kept the walls beige, found blue pottery barn curtains at a consignment sale for $18!, made a white bed skirt and gray ottoman pouf. I also bought a large metal letter to go above the crib and I'm working on a world map for above the dresser. I have been really price conservative this time and have either made it or got it on sale!
  • Don't know the sex of our LO yet but I love the baby jungle animals...but not the super cartoon-like ones.

All of the furniture in our house is dark espresso and I really wanted to stay away from that and have white furniture but everything white looks too pristine (for lack of a better word) and the crib that we liked the most was espresso. Bought the crib and then found a super cool antique dresser that has espresso colored drawers and white crackled paint on top and sides that will double as a changing table.

Keeping the colors as neutral as possible for reuse. I really like the softer colors to keep a small room bright. But I'm just getting started...

We are having a boy. We are doing an antique airplane theme, that way it isn't too baby and he can keep it for several years. We are doing white furniture, to keep it bright. I found these awsome curtains from restoration hardware, they look like airplane blue prints :)

We are doing a kind of woodland animals and camo thing with the nursery. I'm pretty sad that we can't paint the room, so it'll be boring old white. However, the floor is varying colored green tile, so it kind of goes with the greens and Browns I'm planing. So far, the one DIY thing that I've started on is a latch hook rug. Dark brown with a tan buck profile in the middle. Though, I'm starting to think its a bit of a crazy thing to take on, this 5 by 8 rug, especially working on it through the warm weather, but it's looking so cute so far.

We're having a boy and leaning towards a Nautical theme. Same as pp's have mentioned, I think boats are a little more enduring than some nursery themes. We can't paint and the walls are white, but I'm looking into decals and removable wallpaper borders. DH's favorite color is lime green and mine is any shade of blue, so I think we're doing navy, bright green, and white as the color scheme.
  • I love all the ideas!!!!!
I would love to see all the crafts you guys make- post pictures as you finish them!! :)
Especially that latch hook rug @kmd91 ! I'm thinking of making one of those too. I'm sad too that I can't paint my nursery- we are renting but that's why I wanted some ideas from you all- so I can make it as pretty as possible !!

@VexyMommy it's funny you say that about the colors- because my mom wants me to do something bolder haha. I tend to stick to toned down colors, especially since my fiancé doesn't want anything too bright!

    Keep the ideas coming!
  • Omg @belladonna115 I LOVE the creativity! I would love to see it!

@Favoritemandms that's exactly what I wanted to do if we were having a boy! Sounds perfect!

Ahhhhh @VexyMommy, I'm obsessed with elephants! We are having a boy, so I'm loving elephants with blue, white, and maybe gray (though MH says he thinks the gray is too macabre...ummmmm ok).

We are also considering just a general zoo animal type theme. We plan to purchase a new home in the next one to two years, so I'm not so worried about the room being too baby-ish.
  • We just finished painting and getting new carpet installed...we went light gray walls, dark grey speckled carpet. We wanted to keep in gender neutral since we're planning on more than one (plus we don't know yet!). We decided elephants, white aqua and white as accent colors. We're going to so lime green accent too for a boy and raspberry pink (as pink as I'll go) for a girl. Super excited it's coming together...just got to put the furniture in!
  • Girl here. Painting room lavender with white furniture. We are doing a fairytale theme- not Disney but a classic fairytales.
  • First boy had a circus kind of room. Grey, Aqua, and white. Elephants and a couple clowns. Second boy had foxes. Tiffany blue walls, navy accents and orange foxes. This boy is getting a stars and moon kind of room. Light grey walls with stars everywhere, yellow, blue white and grey, blanket. White furniture. Yellow accents. My sister makes felt mobiles so she has made each boys mobile. I'll just mention the Im an interior decorator so doing the nursery is very special to me. A gift to my child kind of.

  • We haven't found out the sex of the baby yet but I know I want dark furniture. We were gifted a crib that is an espresso brown which is my favorite. I'm thinking of painting the walls gray and then one of them being whichever accent color we decide.

We've also talked about doing a Nightmare Before Christmas theme but that could hey quite spendy. Haha.
  • We are doing 3 yellow walls and the 4th wall will have a wallpaper that is grey with a trellis design (or some other pattern like that - we're still waiting on samples of ones we like to come in). Our cribs, dressers and glider are all light grey, so we thought they would look nice against the yellow walls. We bought a couple of blankets from Target that are our colors and they have little animals on them, so I guess that's kind of the theme, but I don't want to go to strong that direction. We plan on getting a variety of fun frames to hang on the walls in there too. If we want another accent color, it will be a light turquoise.

    We're having twins

Our angel baby boy is looking over his twin sister - due November 21

  • We are having a little boy and doing a nautical theme. The colors will be navy blue, light grayish blue and red accents. We're still trying to agree on the furniture. Right now we're leaning toward a set that is white with dark wood trim. To add a touch of "baby", we got some blankets with whales on them and will use whales as some of the wall decor.

  • We are having a boy. I'm planning on vintage feel. Doing a greenish-grey color on the walls and vintage prints and photos. Sort of a Restoration Hardware vibe, without the RH price tag. I don't really like overly babyish nurseries and I don't like themes. Hopefully it will turn out just as great as the vision in my head. I need to start a pintest board. I have a ton of stuff saved on Etsy. I have no idea what to do about bedding though.

I love this idea! Don't worry to much about bedding, you can't have anything in there except a sheet anyways.  I am just planning on having a few cute sheets to use and maybe a bed skirt.  No sense in buying a big set when it will go unused.

  • It's all sharks for our baby boy, going to do an ombre Ocean wall and "attempt" a large paper mache shark....I'm pretty crafty but there is ALWAYS the possibility of it looking like a 3rd grade project lol
  • I think we're going nautical.  We spend most of our weekends during the summer at the beach so it fits us.  Thinking of registering for this set from potterybarn.  https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/anchors-away-nursery-bedding/?pkey=bboys-nursery-bedding&
  • The main theme is going to be "dapper foxes" - think little orange foxes with bowties, eyeglasses, etc. We're also going to do a lot of gray and white chevron print, with light gray walls and tree decals. We're team green, so I think it goes either way well enough. As far as DIY, I'm going to see if my mother-in-law will sew the bedding for us, and I may attempt to make my own mobile if I'm feeling crafty enough.
  • We don't know what sex our baby is yet, but we are going with something more gender neutral in hopes we can use it again with our second. We (well I decided and DH is good with it) decided on turquoise or teal, gray, yellow, and white for the colors. We are going with stars, clouds, and moons for the theme!

I'm going to attempt to make a mobile and some other decorations, so hopefully it goes well!

Jumping in because I love nursery threads! DSs nursery is cream chocolate and white. It's very soothing and I love it! He will be moving to a bigger guest room and we will most likely do the nursery grey white and the accent color will depend on the sex. ( I find out 7/1). DS has espresso furniture which he will keep. If it's another boy, I will probably do espresso again with pale blue accents. If it's a girl I want all white with pale pink accents.

Keep the posts coming ladies :)
  • Team green. Would this transition for female nursery too? Really don't want to do generic animal theme....also, really good rec by friend to buy standard drawers etc so they can grow with. Baby/kid sets tend to be really short and shallow

We are doing lavender walls w white furniture. I ordered the Caden Lane Holly's Hydrangea bedding..it's lavender, pink, sea foam greenish and gold accents. I would like to incorporate some sort of them, but I'm not sure! So far my accents I've bought are white and gold. I want the room super girly :)

  • We are going to do a light pink with mint and gold color scheme. The furniture will be french white. Can't wait to see it all finished and ready for our baby girl!

  • We're having a girl but I'm really not a fan of pink or purple. I don't know if it's corny but DH and I have decided on a lion king theme because we were both obsessed with the movie as children and still love it. The room is beige and the colors will be dark brown, green, blue and burnt orange. It sounds more like a boy's room but girly girl is not my style. Besides, who doesn't like the lion king? Any ideas for a girly flare would be very welcome!
  • @vexymommy I was sorted into Hufflepuff on Pottermore..Yep, I play.  I'm just that nerdy.  I would love him to be Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.  We decided not to do a particular house because we want to wait and see what his little personality is.  Maybe when he gets older and if he wants to keep the room theme we can change it up a bit.

  • @nursewho You could keep the lines of any art curvy and flowing instead of angular. You could also do more with lioness.

  • We're Team Green as well. Since we're currently renting (and hoping to buy a place and move somewhat soon), we won't be painting- just keeping it simple :)

The room is currently light blue, so we're going to get wall decals of clouds and a sun, and maybe some greenery for the bottom. I'm also working on two cross-stitch patterns, which read "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine" and "You make me happy when skies are grey." They're super cute designs, and I love that song- I've already been humming it to baby a lot :) So we'll frame those and hang them. The furniture will all be white, and the rocker has dark blue cushions. I'm hoping it looks as cute in reality as it does in my head!
