Re: Recent terrible names

  • Well, Margarita is a legit name and has been around for a long time.

My great-grandmothers name was Margherita (she was Italian). I've always thought it was a pretty name but I wouldn't want my future daughter to constantly have her name associated with the drink or the pizza (although both are delicious)!

Gruby is just awful. Even if it was a typo, I can't think of any similarly spelled names that aren't terrible.

  • Maybe Gruby is actually Ruby and the G stands for girl. It's possible a nurse just make a mistake filling out the paperwork. It's a long shot but for poor little Gruby's sake I hope I'm right.

WTF is up with all this Baylor nonsense, it's literally popping up a lot.  I admit I don't have an undying love for my university but I do have one for the Buffalo Bills yet I haven't named my children that.

Im surprised I haven't seen any "Aggie" as a name in this region.

Ssshhh don't give them any ideas!   Baylor, Berkeley, and Crimson seem to be the ones that have popped up in threads the most.  I side eye every.single.one.

Crimson will always make me think of periods. On Clueless I think it was she said she was "riding the crimson wave". Has stuck with me ever since.
  • Came across a Ra'chel on fb tonight....
    Random apostrophes anyone?

So there are a few names i want desperately to use for reasons that are unclear at this point - and it's kind of a dirty secret.

    Birdie
    Pepper
Valinore (I know, what the hell right? The kid is guaranteed to be the world's biggest dork)
Titus (my favourite name in the lexicon. Told it to the husband who immediately said "Tight ass" and the conversation ended)

  • Met a boy named Serious recently. I'm not sure how he spelled it, but a part of me secretly hopes it was spelled Sirius as a Harry Potter reference, to make it at least 20% okay.

Isn't it a nickname for something? Like a relatively or historically legit nickname?

All I can think of is Lady Bird Johnson, former first Lady. It also strikes me that a movie character went by the same nn...maybe Steel Magnolias?

Birdie can be a nickname for Elizabeth or Beatrice. On Mad Men, Don calls Betty (Elizabeth) Draper by the nickname Birdie.
  • I saw Koltyn posted at daycare the other day

I saw someone on the BMB considering this name. #-o
Adding "Ella" onto a masculine name does not make it feminine. Or even a name for that matter.
