What kind of BBT does everyone use? Mine beeps when it turns on and when it is finished so I wake up my husband every single morning and he is beginning to think I am a bit crazy. I have explained charting to him but he doesn't buy in yet... aka let's just have sex and of course we will make a baby.
Is anyone else on Metformin? If so, will you continue use after getting your BFP? This is a question I ask everyone I run in to that is taking it. I like statistics. :-S

I'm on it and will continue after. My RE said it cuts down the risk of MC in the first trimester. She didn't give me stats on that however.
I have a rather random question but I'm curious about it.
I'm very interested in temping for sheer informational purposes, like tracking AF. I'm not TTC and I have had the Paraguard (copper) IUD since April. Does it even make sense to try temping with an IUD? It has no hormones so I figured maybe it wouldn't interfere with my cycle but someone correct me if that's totally wrong.
Thanks @PrimRoseMama for this thread. I've been wanting to ask this for a while.
Here's a newbie question: How many follicles should an ovary normally have visible around CD 9? I'm wondering because I've just begun all of the infertility testing (over 35, TTCing for 6 months) and so I had a pelvic ultrasound. The doctor said things look normal (though I have tilted uterus, which I expected to hear), but then she asked if I was "for sure on day 9." She went on to explain that I had fewer visible eggs than she might expect and this could be either because of hormones not properly signaling for them to mature or because of diminished reserve. I'm just wondering how far off I was from normal, which of course I should have asked in the appointment but didn't. I've got all the scripts for the timed bloodwork and an HSG test, so I'll be getting more answers, but thought I would ask as I am sitting around waiting for the cycle days to line up with the remaining tests.

Does an Opk test line get gradually darker as you get closer to O? I got my IUD removed a month ago and I've been testing with them each afternoon. I'm seeing nothing but very faint lines. I'm also still breastfeeding my 28 month old so I'm not even sure if I'm ever going to ovulate.

I'll ask a question that I don't feel is important enough to be its own thread because I'm honestly just curious. Have any of you ladies bought baby things while TTC? My mom said she wanted to get me a baby bullet last Christmas since I wanted one for baby in the future but I felt weird about it. But when I go to target I always want to buy something. Or to start converting the office into what will be the nursery. DH thinks I'm nuts and I'm worried about jinxing myself. Anyone have thoughts?

I feel the same way. I have the urge to start buying baby things but don't want to 'jinx' myself either.
DH and I did buy a few baby books from a store going out of business though because they were extremely discounted. We keep them in a tote bin in the basement.

For me they do as well. Some women will need to test multiple times a day, once mid morning and once in the evening, to catch their surge. Also, it's important to remember you can have multiple surges in your cycle and the OPKs don't confirm you actually ovulated.

Because my sister is done having kids, we've started accumulating things. We have a tub, swing, pack and play, moby, some clothes and a few other things. Occasionally I'll buy a book if I see it at TjMaxx or something but the LO I watch uses those too.
I justify the bigger items as things at my home my other sister will need when she comes to visit and stays with us (baby is 6 months).

I didn't ovulate until I completely weaned dd, granted everyone is different. My opks get darker as well the closer I get to ovulation and I usually have at leas 2 positive surges in a cycle. Which makes me want to pull out my hair.

I still have a couple things we had bought from my MC almost 3 years ago that I have saved, but I do get the occasional urge to buy things. I'm with you on the jinxing thing though.

It's really hard not too!! I've thought about it but the only thing I've gotten so far is a Halloween outfit. I'm obsessed with Halloween and it may not even be the right size at the time, but I just couldn't help myself
When TTC DD, we bought one toy on our honeymoon. I did some research on other stuff, but I'm glad I waited. Not just because of the potential heartbreak, but it's so much fun to pick stuff when you're actually pregnant and you've got nine months for that.
Most of my friends are done having kids now. Often, they offer clothes and other stuff on Facebook. I have to sit on my hands.

I haven't bought anything new, but I'm keeping my eye out for good deals. I only buy used items from people I know personally, and know that they take good care of their things. I picked up a MamaRoo for $50 because my neighbor was moving. The realist in me says that my body doesn't know if I purchase baby items or not, so clearly I can't jinx it. My hubs thinks I'll jinx it and get KU before we start actually trying. (I'm currently just watching my cycles, will start TTC this winter.) I'm thinking about asking for my dream stroller for Christmas....
My question: Does anyone have the $35 BBT from CVS? It says on the package that it automatically puts the temp on your phone. I am SUPER lazy in the morning, and I think this would come in handy! It says it uploads to it's own app, but I think that it would be easy to re-enter them in FF. Does anyone know if it does this automatically (like with WiFi), or if I have to connect it to my phone each time?
Has anyone here started to pay attention to what they put on their skin while TTC (shampoo, soap, lotion, deodorant, etc.)? I don't wear makeup and I've switched to natural shampoos and conditioners, but I'm not sure how seriously to take the claims about chemicals affecting your hormones. If there are some things to take seriously, is there anything specific to avoid?

They **think** it interferes with implantation and sperm mobility. Apparently while it's like 99% effective, they can't say for sure how it's done.

Oh wow, they don't actually know? That really surprises me. If so I wouldn't expect it to affect ovulation and therefore temping. *off to read about the science...*

The only thing I have is a onesie that says 'I love Daddy' which is how I plan on telling MH when I do get pregnant. Every month I don't get to use It makes me kind of sad, which is why I don't buy anything else.

I switched to a face wash without salicylic acid. I want my skin to adjust before adding hormones to the mix.

Yes it releases copper and causes irritation of the lining which prevents implantation. It should not interfer with temping!

Has anyone taken prednisone while TTC? I was supposed to be on it for 14 days for a spider bite but I weaned myself off earlier.
I was put on it when I was 11 weeks. I was hospitalized with pneumonia and asthma for 3 days though so it was more important to take it to breathe well than the risk associated. DS is perfectly healthy. They told me only side effect might be if I had a girl she could have excess body hair.

After 3 and 1/2 years, I have given all of it away. I haven't bought anything baby related in over 2 years. I think the longer you are at this, the more you realize you are just setting yourself up for heartbreak.

Google something called antral follicle count. Every cycle you start out with a large number of visible follicles, like 30. The antral follie count is done is done at cycle day 3, though. around cd 10 a handful of follies start to grow bigger. When I was on 50 mg of clomid, I think I had about 8 follies growing bigger - around 10mm -at cd 10. Then a few days later 4 follies bigger than 16mm. When one follie gets to the right size, it somehow triggers the lh surge and ovulation. I think it's through an estrogen surge that causes it. Anyway, you need to ask exactly how many follies and what size they were. Are you working with an RE. Doesn't sound like it since the count should be done at cycke day 3. https://www.advancedfertility.com/antralfollicles.htm

Thanks for your answer, Borg. This was an OB, at a kind of gate-keeping appt before giving the referral to the RE (insurance here has us jumping through lots of hoops). Based on this ultrasound we now have the RE referral and all of the testing orders/scripts for the day 3 blood work and other tests that will go to the RE for a diagnosis. So yeah, it was the wrong day for a diagnostic count but just based on what she said I was already trying to calculate how far from normal things appear to be--but it sounds like it's the wrong timing for that kind of count. It just messed with my head a bit--I couldn't tell if she thought the hormones were ahead or behind for the cycle day. She also said the right ovary would release the egg because you could clearly see one there see that was much larger. To me that seemed possibly ahead of schedule. Anyway, I'm sure the RE will be more precise!

It's possible that you could identify the dominant follicle at cycle day nine but it's also possible that another follicle would catch up

There are many chemicals that should probably be avoided for many reasons outside of just TTC. A few years ago, I had an explosion of severe allergies. Since then, I tried to use organic skin and hair care and started to use all natural cleaning stuff around the house (baking soda and vinegar = fave!), but lately I recently introduced some old favorite products (deep hair conditioners, certain types of make up, etc.) because of our budget. I haven't noticed anything different about my cycles since doing that, but my skin allergies have been hell.
Edited to add: Parabens reportedly interfere with hormones. I avoid them, personally. But on the same note... Lavender is also reported to mess with hormones.
