Do you chart your last couple days of your period as spotting, light, or nothing? I'm talking about when you no longer have to wear a pad or tampon just discoloration when wiping (sorry if TMI).

Also how long did it take to get the hang of checking your cervical position? I've read TCOYF and I question whether I "feel" what I am suppose to be feeling. Anyone have trouble checking? I have a tilted cervix (so I've been told) and I'm sure that's part of my problem. Tips are much appreciated.

If you don't need a pad or tampon, mark spotting.

    Google My Beautiful Cervix.

Check once a day at the same time of day.  I check just after the shower.  It took me a couple months of checking to get the hang of it.  Since I've had kids, my cervix is always open, so I ignore that part.  If I can feel it without squatting, I call that low.  If I can feel it with squatting, I call that medium.  If I can't feel it with squatting and I have to "bear down", I call that high.  If I can feel any hardness at all, it is medium or firm.  But if it is all squish, then I mark soft.

A not-safe-for-work website called my beautiful cervix has pictures and is very helpful.

Hello Ladies, long time lurker here...

I was on BCPS for about 9 years before I stopped taking it 8 months ago when DH and I started TTC.  My cycles were regular as soon as I stopped taking the pill (29 or 30 days). After months of BFN's I decided to go back to weight watchers to try and lose some weight to see if that would help. Well, as soon as I started losing weight my cycles started getting really long. Last cycle was 38 days and this cycle I'm on CD40 with no AF and BFN this morning.... what could be causing this and should I wait till I hit CD60 before calling my doctor??

What are you doing to lose weight and how drastic?  Long before I was TTC, exercise *def* messed with my cycles (as in, only got my period once all of fall semester...).  If you've suddenly changed something (like adding in lots of exercise where there was none, or some of the diets that cut out whole categories of food), I would guess that it could mess with your cycle while your body adjusts to a new normal.  I'm basing that on personal experience and what I've read while TTC.  Are you temping?  BBT (by confirming ovulation or lack thereof) can help determine if you cycles are "just longer" - as they vary and 38-40 days isn't terribly long; or if you aren't ovulating, in which case, talking to a doctor might be the next step.

I am not adding crazy exercise (maybe 3-5 hours a week from nothing at all) and I'm doing weight watchers (which I've done on and off since I was 16 years old). So not cutting any major food groups out of my diet other than processed foods and sugary crap which I can't imagine would mess with my hormones. I've lost 15lbs in 9 weeks so I don't think that's too drastic of weight loss... I did try to temp this past cycle and got frustrated when I wasn't seeing spikes after OPK was positive.. So maybe I'm just not ovulating... I'm going to call my Dr. on Monday...

    Thanks!

Temping took me some time to get used to (my first cycle temping was 50ish days - I had just about given up on ovulating when I saw a shift and then it ALL made sense... But temping is also not for everyone - Hopefully the doc gives you more answers than I can!  Good luck!

    Hello,

38-40 days is not really that long.  It is a bit above average, but nothing to worry about.  Yes, you should wait until CD 60 before calling your doctor.  What is causing it? Your cycle length is determined by your ovulation date.  THe later you ovulate, the later you will get your period.  The date you ovulate changes may change every cycle.  There's probably not a reason for your cycles getting a little bit longer.  If you want to know when (if) you ovulated, you'll have to chart your temps.

    Good luck!

Near the end of January this year when TB changed the TOU and mass banned lots of regulars.

I'm also not really a newbie but I got kind of a newbie question. Does the 1 year TTC timeframe reset if you get a BFP and have a mc?

    No, it doesn't.

I have heard that some insurance companies will reset your coverage if you've gotten pregnant, regardless of the outcome of that pregnancy. But the general recommendation still stands.

@kplat Thanks for the insight! I might try it this summer. It sounds like it's very relaxing in general so it can't hurt to try something new!

I'll ask a question that I don't feel is important enough to be its own thread because I'm honestly just curious. Have any of you ladies bought baby things while TTC? My mom said she wanted to get me a baby bullet last Christmas since I wanted one for baby in the future but I felt weird about it. But when I go to target I always want to buy something. Or to start converting the office into what will be the nursery. DH thinks I'm nuts and I'm worried about jinxing myself. Anyone have thoughts?

I've purchased a baby rocking chair that my mom convinced me to buy at an Estate sale since it was a one-of-a-kind type item, but the other baby stuff we're holding off until we get a BFP. I'm kind of in the same boat about jinxing myself, but I have friends that have bought a couple items and they're not even TTC yet. I say do what you want, but if DH is really against it, you could always make a baby pin board to bookmark all the things you do want to buy when you get a BFP. :)

I bought a onesie that says, "I love my (ant)", and a burp cloth that says, "if I'm spoiled, someone should spank grandma" to surprise our families. I also bought some diapers because I saw an "extreme couponing" instructions on facebook and couldn't pass up the deal! If I don't get a BFP, soon, I will just give them away.

Newbie Question: At what point do you participate in the TWW threads? Obviously during the TWW, but do you just post on the first day of your TWW (such as only on the Monday board) or every day during that time? Or do you just pick and choose randomly?

I've been buying baby things since before I met my husband. Lol. Only really unique cute outfits or really good clearance deals here and there. I thought I was crazy except that I justified it by telling myself that if a friend or relative has a baby I can use some of the things for gifts (and from time to time I have.) But a few times I've told friends and I'm surprised that I'm not the only one! I've had a few tell me they do the same thing. It's like having a hope chest. :) not a big deal probably if you aren't obsessively doing it. I do it rarely like I said if I come across something too cute or unique or on sale and I stick it in a special box and put it away.

Some people participate daily, not at all, or only once or twice during their two week wait.

It would be considered very rude to only participate on the day you got a BFP though.

Re: acupuncture. I've done it, not for TTC but I was curious since in my nursing program we talked about it a lot and a lot of hospitals around here are starting to implement it. I don't like needles either, but these are very small, like a horse hair. It stung a little more than I expected, but I fell asleep while marinating, so there's that. The whole idea of it is increasing flow through affected areas, so if it's going to help with anything, I would think that TTC would be a big one.

Re: IUD. Interesting, I always assumed it was sort of like what they do to some horses and camels (I compare EVERYTHING to animals, sorry!). Horses can get these things called marebles (mare+marble, heh heh) that mimics the way a horse embryo sort of rolls around to let mama know she's pregnant, so it prevents them from going into heat, handy because spaying a horse is difficult and a lot of horses are mega bitches when they're in heat. I can't remember for sure, but I think camelids are similar. So I always figured it was something like that- uterus is all like whoa something's there, no need to ovulate! Lack of implantation is something kind of glossed over in explaining methods I think because so many people would consider that to be an abortion.

Now a question! Is a luteal phase considered the whole time between ovulation and your period starting, or only the days that a high temp is sustained? Because if it's the former, I'm having 10 day cycles, but if it's the latter, it's less :(

Luteal phase is ovulation through the day prior to CD 1. So, say you ovulate on CD22 and get your period on what would have been CD 30, then your luteal phase is 7 days.

Are you temping to confirm ovulation?
