I suppose we should be grateful that daddy isn't missing a toe or a leg.
It makes no sense that since Daddy has had a body part removed that the child should have the same. There are many differences between parents and their kids and certainly adult and child genitals. If your son notices his daddy's penis I think the lack of foreskin isn't likely to be his most significant observation.

Excellent point. My breasts are currently lopsided. I am not worried about a future daughter asking me why she doesn't look like mommy if her breasts are even
I did it with my son - I felt horrible afterwards when I would have to clean it and make sure it healed up good, it looked painful HOWEVER, I'm glad that I did. He's not going to ever remember what he went through in order to have it done and I think he will thank me later. lol
I'm having a girl so this is not something I had to decide. That being said, it would have been clear cut for me to choose never to mutilate my beautiful child for aesthetic purposes. They are born with it for a reason in my opinion.
Mutilate...really that's over the top! I've never actually inquired, but I think it's safe to say that Blue Cross does not cover mutilation and yet they payed for DS's circumcision 100%. My best guess is the AAP does not support mutilation and yet, recognizes the benefits of circumcision enough to issue a statement saying that the benefits outweigh the risks, though still supporting leaving it up to the parents to decide. @misheldon
Good thing we are all entitled to opinions! @sschwege Mine, believe it or not, is based on science and history (read: the historically correct reason for why they started doing this back in the 1920s was enough for me to relate to that as mutilation.) I recommend you look into it before you say I'm over the top.
I guess I missed that memo bc my husband is not and all three of my boys are/will be. Why? Because I let my husband choose. He has a penis and I don't. I'm not about to make a decision regarding one.

We are having a boy and we are definitely circumcising. I feel it's cleaner and later in life when he has girlfriends he will thank us. I have never been with a guy who had the foreskin. I don't think I could. I rather do it when he is a newborn so he won't remember it.
It's entirely possible you have been with someone uncircumcised as circumcised or not an erect penis pretty much looks the same!

Have a nice day.
The current science in America states that while it is beneficial, it's not enough of a difference to recommend all boys be circumcised.
Also the true history is that before the 1920s it was actually done as a religious practice, as the amenities and hygiene of the past weren't what they are today, causing the foreskin to actually be unclean and cause infections.

When I discussed it with my dr, they said either way is fine and healthy. They recommended that baby be like daddy. They will grow up seeing daddy and learning to be like daddy they will want to be the same as daddy. They may wonder why they are different from daddy.
I can agree with this. My husband isnt either and it was one of the first talks we had before finding out we are having a boy. We both decided after researching and talking to doctor that either or is no problem. So I would prefer my 1st baby boy to not have it done.
Wow I love how bitchy people are getting... =D> why is it that you are now telling any of us that chose to do it are mutilating our child no room for discussion yet you are allowed your opinion. Or making fun of people who believe they should "be like daddy". Are they too not allowed to have an opinion? Knock it off. OP wanted to know what others did. Don't make yourself to be holier-than-thou when we all did what was right for our family/child/situation. I doubt any pro circumcision mother did it with the intent to "mutilate" their child. None of us have a penis so we will never be able to know for sure.
The original poster requested our thoughts on Circumsision, as the title of the thread states, not whether or not we have done it as you seem to think. Also, I never said people chose to mutilate, I said I would choose not to. Take a deep breath and read a bit more carefully, @grlplz. Yes, I am like everyone else entitled to my opinion, and I will continue sharing it when asked about it.
I think it is cruel. I live in England and have never met a single person who is circumsized or a single person who has had any medical problems because of not being circumsized!

You're right she asked for thoughts on it (good job I can read too - have a nice day) which means most will tell you what they did and why. If some did or didn't do it because "it's like daddy" that's answering the question. And when you can explain to me how it'd be mutilation for you to do it but not anyone else I will take back my previous statement. Everyone was NICELY giving their opinions when a few people decided the only way to do it was insult other people's decisions. So yes, it's gotten bitchy.

I'm in UK too and I've seen circumcision performed under anaesthetic for phimosis (tight foreskin that won't retract) during my training. It certainly isn't something to be taken lightly and really don't feel it's ethical to be performed following 'sugar water' for analgesia. This forum has certainly opened up my eyes to the differences in the health systems in UK vs US. There are some health benefits to circumcision but overall these are pretty minor. It seems the biggest barrier to reducing rates in US is an element of irrational fear of foreskins in general, coupled with religious/cultural norms. I don't agree with it being performed routinely and won't be doing that to my son, however I respect the reasons given above by most of PPs. Hopefully most mums will insist on real anaesthetic for their babies rather than accepting homeopathic pain relief x
I have 2 boys and circumcised both of them without question. And both of my boys slept through the procedure. They didn't feel a thing and it's so much cleaner for them to have it done.
I want to but my husband doesn't and he doesn't want to discuss it lol he says "it's not in the books" but he isn't really big on religion so I'm always just blankly staring at him like what books?

I think regardless of how awkward a topic it may be you two need to discuss it and come to a mutual understanding
