Glucose Test

How did everyone do at their one hour glucose test? I failed mine by FOUR <bleeping> points and now have to go for the three hour one tomorrow morning. My doctors office considers a fail anything above 140. What about yours? And let me just say, since I got the call, all I want is a cupcake haha.

  • Just had mine today, hopefully I won't be in the same situation!

  • I failed my 1 hour, went back for the 3 hour test (you're actually stuck there for 4 hours) and got the great news that I failed that one as well. Gestational diabetes it is. I had to go meet with a diabetic counselor on Wednesday. I have to keep track of my carbs, I am only allowed so many "carb choices" per meal. I also have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day. I was really nevous I was going to walk in and she was going to tell me I had to eat lettuce from here on out, but that's not the case. She told me to stay away from soda & juice (crystal light is my best friend) but other than that I just have make the right choices.
  • Kales I'm so sorry! I will be coming to you for advice if I end up failing tomorrow! Glad it's not as daunting as it sounds.
  • I have it on Monday. Last pregnancy I failed the 1 hour by 7 points I think and passed the 3 hour. Realllly hoping to skip the 3 hour this time!!

  • My test is March 4. Hoping I pass. The 3 hour sucks.
  • Mine is on the 9th and I honestly dont know whether or not I will fail it. With my first pregnancy I ate super healthy and had no issues....this time around I am not doing that great with my eating habits.... I can't blame anyone but myself tho so I am just hoping for the best and am trying to eat healthier.
  • When I work I allow myself two cups of pepsi (about equal to 2 cans) with a bottle of water in between each. As I poured my second one tonight I stopped halfway and wondered if I should not have any until my test on 3/12. Sigh... but I know I will keep drinking it when working. its only 2 days a week that I let myself have sugary drinks like that. Here's to hoping

  • It isn't so bad. I'm doing pretty good so far.
  • My doctors office limit is 135 and I scored a 138 my first test. FAILED. I asked the PA a million questions and she assured me that 3 or 4 points was not something i should freak out about. They made me take the 3 hour test and I passed. Good luck!
  • I fail it every time for the first hour one then pass the 3 hour one. I'm hhypoglycemia.
  • I get mine done in 2 weeks, but my doctor told me because I have a good history he doesn't make his patients "with a good record" do the 3 hr test if it's just a few points off. Please forgive this stupid question, but is GD caused mainly by diet? I'm not familiar with it AT ALL; I don't know anyone who's had it pregnant.
  • I just had mine on Friday and am waiting for the results. I had a checkup right after and passed sugar in my urine, so now I'm a little nervous. Good luck to you!
  • Mine's Tuesday, and I'm having total guilt about my eating habits for the last 25 weeks... Is there much one can do to reduce failure risk at this late point? I suspect not! Maybe I should go stare at my elliptical some more...

I asked my mw at my last appointment what I could be doing... she said not much, since so much of the cause is hormonal. (though there may be differing opinions there. As Web MD says "no one knows for sure if it is possible to prevent gd"). I was just advised to eat a high protein meal prior to the test.

  • I have mine this week kind of nervous
  • I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. My doctor said to let that be a wake up call and not a pass to go eat a mcflurry. I'm just so thankful! Good luck!

Me too! I failed the one hr with DD#2, and had to do the dreaded 3 hr. I sure as hell do not want to go down that lane again! :-/ Good luck with your test.
  • I was told it has nothing to do with your diet. It has to do with your hormones. I am plus sized, and I have PCOS so I had a higher chance to have it anyway, but a lady my mom works with is super fit and active, and she ended up getting it too. It's just when your pregnant your body can have a hard time getting the sugar where it needs to go.
  • I am sitting at mine right now I hop I don't have to do a 3 hour one
  • Im missed my 24 weeks appointment due to snow and they wont be able check my glucose.....is it to late to get checked ill be 28 weeks when I see my midwife
  • I had my one hour early in maybe 16 weeks... 145... so had to have a 3 hour... yuck... but passed with great numbers... now I hit my third trimester and had to have another 3 hour today... talk about depressing :(
  • My doctor skips the 1 hour completely and has everyone do the full... I did mine this morning... It was exhausting and I was hungry!
  • I took mine this past Friday and got the results back today. I passed! :-bd
  • Passed! Woohoo, just got home, had a 106...and then I had my DH stop for ice cream on the way home....no shame. I was very worried as an overweight mom, so it was nice to get a positive

My doctor told me genetics plays a big role
  • Going in the morning for mine wish me luck!
  • I go in 3 weeks at 29 weeks... Passed the one hour last time and have no fears of passing this time. I just want to skip it all together because my first two pregnancies the doctor didn't make me do it ever since I never had sugar in my urine. ;) oh well, I'll make the doctor happy. Good luck ladies that crap is nasty!!! Why can't we just eat a snickers before!?!
  • My doctor okayed me to skip the drink and have 50g worth of sugar in a combo of orange juice and a banana. I did my research and presented it to her. We'll see how I do. Guess I should actually schedule it first :)
  • I failed both with my daughter and the diabetes decided to latch on for three years ugh!!!!! Ive been keeping up with my numbers and I haven't had trouble so far but...130 for this Dr and that's crazy low. FX I pass this time. FX everyone passes and those who dont, don't have serious complications
  • I had my first sugar test very early on 12 weeks due to ,both my parents having diabetes and I'm overweight,I failed my 1hr by 4pt ,but passed the 3hr so now my dr wants to do the test again at 28 weeks in 24 weeks now,has anyone ever had to take it twice?

This is how it works at my OB's practice as well. A post 24 week test is mandatory, high risk mothers will also have a test in first tri to help indentify those who develop GD early in pregnancy.

  • Woohoo, I passed yesterday! My number appears to be 80, which I read is lower than most people who haven't even taken the glucose... So I may be a lazy girl (even pre-pregnancy) but my body appears to have resolved this by being excellent at processing sugars, lol. I actually found the liquid not terrible, at which point my husband said "maybe that means you drink too many sweet beverages normally!" (He's a funny guy, that one...)
  • Just drank my drink. Yuck!!
  • I have to drink my drink at 12:40
Central time today. Appt is this afternoon. Wish me luck!!! Nervous! I've had such a sweet tooth during the last several weeks!
