I have my glucose test tomorrow morning around 8 and I was told not to drink nor eat anything after 12 pm til after the test that morning ... Does that also mean I can't drink water ?
You definitely want to still have water! Otherwise you'll be dehydrated and feel like absolute crap!

Yes. I had to do the same thing no fluids at all and no food after midnight.
Your doc should have given specific directions around that. I was told no food 3 hours before the test but that water was ok (and recommended drinking one glass of water after drinking the glucose). But each dr may have different instructions so I wouldn't take my word for it - or anyone else's! But I'd say if you are feeling poorly after the drink, a little water is probably ok.
For me, the one hour drink wasn't too bad...it tasted like orange soda. The three hour drink, however, was disgusting. It was 100g of sugar packed into a mere 10oz drink. It was so sweet it burned my throat.

My doctors office told me I could have water, but then the lab were being Nazi's and would not let me have water. They told me it was OK to drink some overnight and have a glass in the morning (so I wasn't dehydrated to the point of it being harder to draw my blood), but once I got there I couldn't have any unless I started to feel sick. Then they would call the Dr and see if it was OK for me to have some. They said it may dilute the glucose drink. So I compromised. I drank some when I woke up and brought my bottle with me. I tried to NOT drink any once the test was underway, but every now and then I did take a small sip to wet my mouth / throat but not enough to dilute anything.
I have a good story for you ladies! I got pulled over by the police for speeding on my way to the appt and told the officer I had 5 mins to get my blood drawn. He let me go with no ticket.. Lol. Got my results and my number was super low at 56. I asked the nurse if that was ok and said it was fine. Glad it's over!
I was worried I wouldn't pass because I've been downing Girl Scout cookies like crazy but I passed with a 73! Back to the cookies and good luck to everyone who has to take or retake the test!
I am currently waiting on my 3rd blood draw for 11:56, then the last one at 12:56. I had the lime one this time (first time orange) and it was a thicker/ almost like a watered down gel. Yuk!!! I feel horrible. ..like I have to keep taking deep breaths. I asked if they had somewhere I could lay down and nope. I am having to go and lay down in my truck in between each draw. Not fun because I feel like I want to faint:(.

Same here. Was able to have water and take prenatals/iron pills but that was it. Once the test started, I could no longer drink water.

This SUCKS!! If you are feeling faint they should pay more attention to you. Good gods, your pregnant and have just fasted and are testing for diabetes, for pete's sake! Your blood sugar could be low, or too high. At a minimum they should have found something for you to put your feet up so you could kinda lean back with your head against the chair. What if you were to faint leaving there cause they were being so jackassy? What a bunch of assholes. I would say something about it at another time when you're feeling more yourself. I hope you're feeling better and that you pass!

I know, right! I worked in the medical field for over 7 years, and I was astonished when the technician was just so nonchalant about the situation. There was no where for me to lay down in the waiting area, so I had no choice. That definitely would have been a liability for them if I had fainted on the way to the car. I ended up making it through.
Ugh I had mine last week... Failed the one hour test by 20 points... Braced myself for the bad news after the 3 hour test and I ended up passing! I did eat like crap the 2 days before because I wasn't sure if I would be missing out for the next 13 weeks! Lol
I did want to say this - and I noticed a thread that someone else started earlier - that I've seen in other month boards, they have a weekly GD check in thread. The ladies in there were talking their BG measurements for that week and trading food tips, etc. It doesn't seem like we have had too many of us officially have GD (or if we are we aren't actively posting about it) but I do remember earlier in this thread someone did get the official GD diagnosis. We should try to do something like that weekly so that those of us who do get the GD nod have a support system. Just my thoughts...
And @toodaloo -what if, gods forbid, you had fainted driving home? When I finished my 3 hour the lab director happened to be at the desk and asked me how it went and I didn't have any complaints, but if I had gone thru what you did you bet I would have told her.
took both those tests at the beginning of this week and failed both miserably...i meet with a dietitian on wednesday to get me on a diet and discuss some safe exercises that i can do on a regular basis. well, best of luck to you ladies who havent taken their tests yet!

I think this would be a good idea as well!! I have my three hour test tomorrow morning (failed the 1 hour by 6 points, so we'll see how it goes), but should I end up diagnosed with GD, I would really like to create a weekly thread for support. We shall see tomorrow-hopefully I'll get my results the same day.
Good morning from Qatar! Apparently it's just a 2 hour test here. 1st fasting blood draw Sugar drink -- came from USA, lemon-lime flavored (75g sugar) 2nd blood draw at 1 hour 3rd blood draw at 2 hours
I'm starving! But baby woke up about 5 min after I finished the drink so the jolt of sugar must have woke him up! Hoping I pass... Sucks to have to get 3 blood draws!

I wasn't worried about my test until my mom was officially diagnosed with diabetes. So now that my mother, grandmother, brother have a history of it, I'm really hoping I pass my tests. I took my one hour today and am hoping they have good news for me in Monday.
I failed by two points :-/ , and had to do the three hour test. I was able to go home after two hours because I passed the second hour. I felt so sick after about 30 minutes of drinking it.
I had my glucose test scheduled for Thursday but I immediately threw it up so my dr ordered me to do it again on Friday and she said this time not to fast so I had an egg and some beans, drank the drink about an hr later and in way to dr to take the test I threw it up again. I called my dr and left a message for a call back but she never called back so I'll be calling her again tomorrow morning. Did anyone else experience this? If so, is there another option other than that ugly drink?
I didn't have to fast before hand, the doctor just told me don't eat any sugary cereal or anything like that for breakfast. It's been almost a week since I did my 1hour test so I'll be calling them to find out today
My doctor told me to fast for 8hrs prior! Did anyone else have that experience?
I'm sure most of us were advised to be fasting. Otherwise the food you ate can change your blood sugar levels.
I woke up and went directly to the doctor to do the test so I wouldn't have to go the whole day without eating.
Fasting is not the norm for a one hour test anymore, but there are still quite a few doctors who do a fasting test. The three hour test is always tasting.
I just finished the drink. Waiting the 1 hour to the blood withdrawn, im feeling dizzy. Haven't ate anything all morning and I'm starving now. . I hope I pass because I don't want to do this again.
I passed with a 74. Which I'm pretty sure is almost too low especially after only fasting for 2 hours... I think I was a little more concerned about how low it was than they were so I guess that's a good sign. I had the fruit punch flavoredd drink and it literally tasted like I was drinking liquid sugar. It was bad, but not to the point where I felt like I was going to throw up.
Just had the drink, now sitting in the waiting room. Was looking forward to playing trivia on my phone but this little old man decided to sit by me and chat my ear off while he waits for his tests... This is gonna be a long hour.
I had to fast for 10 hours! And they didn't offer me the option to eat a hard boiled egg before hand! I mad that I failed. Could these factors have anything to do with why i failed and you passed???

It's not something you should be trying to trick the test on. If you failed, it's because your body isn't processing the glucose properly. You want to know that. Anyway, I read your other post; I think you're talking about the three hour test, right? From what I've heard that one is always a fasting test. If you followed the directions your office gave you, then it is what it is. GD is really common, like 9% I think I read. It's only for a few months, and if you don't take it seriously there can be actual consequences.
@Frogger5 thanks for saying all that! I have GD myself and while the news may seem devastating it gets better over time. There are meals out there without the carbs or sugar that are actually enjoyable. It's also a matter of how you balance your diet with exercise-- of course only if it's physically possible. In the larger scheme of things taking care of ourselves is important to the health of our little babies. If having a healthy baby means passing on chocolatey sweets (believe me, I LOVE chocolate) I'll take it.
Well, after waiting 45 minutes to get my initial work up, I drank the 100 mg for the 3 hour test. About a half hour I ended up throwing up...will have to do it again
Oh no I guess I'm way out of the loop, but I DID NOT KNOW this was a pass, fail situation! Yikes I go this week, I'm eating these Reese's cups and then done with the sweets!
