  • How crumbly?  If they are soft and dissolvey, I don't see why not.

Someone recently recommended a BM Zweiback recipe. Can someone repost that?
    Zweiback

1/2 c. milk (breastmilk if available)
1 pkg active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp.)
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/4 c. butter- melted
    1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground anise or anise flavoring
    3 eggs
    3 c. flour

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Scald the milk and when lukewarm add to the yeast. Add the sugar, butter, salt, anise and the eggs and enough flour to handle (I translate this as enough flour so you can handle the dough and it's not too sticky.) Let rise until light (almost doubled) Make into 3" oblong rolls, place on a buttered pan and let rise again. Bake 20 minutes. When cold cut into 1/2" slices and bake a second time (I usually do this on cooling racks on trays so both sides are affected) until browned.
Thanks! So I made this today and they ended up kind of crumbly, instead of hard. I tweaked the recipe, so I'm sure it's my fault, but I can't give M crumbly cookies, right? Hmmm, that's odd. Can you stick them back in the oven for a few more minutes? Maybe try it with just a few and see what happens.
  • Mine came out kind of like croutons ... but I accidentally left them in a bit longer than I intended. They were on the dark side, but not burnt.
  • Maybe you could give her one, watch her carefully and see how she does with it? Are they so soft that they will crumble in her hands? If they're too crumbly I might try baking them a little longer.
  • My mom has really doubted my resolve to cloth diaper and kept making comments about how I will quit. Today she called with advice to put a few drops of Dawn on all dirty diapers before going into the wash. I can't tell if she is trying to sabotage me, or if she is coming around to letting me do my own thing.
  • Ugh. So, we made another batch of dog treats tonight. I have no idea what the hell I did wrong. @MapleMe you wanna help me with this one?

    So, the recipe was:
    • 1 3/4 Garbanzo Flour
    • 1/4 Rolled Oats
    • 1 Egg
    • 3 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
    • 1 Medium Banana
I did not have garbanzo flour, so I subbed coconut flour instead. The recipe claims it'll be sticky. Mine wasn't. It was so dry and crumbly. I tried adding water until it was the right consistency, but it wasn't coming together. So I added another egg to try to make it stick together more. I got it just able to get rolled out and cut up, but it was so fragile. Help?

I just cleared half my trivia crack board and only got one question correct. I'm getting dumber.

I think I accepted too many games because I got very burned out on Trivia Crack. Now I only play it at night because otherwise it's way too overwhelming.

  • So, maybe oat flour next time or reduce the coconut flour?

  • Yeah, I really liked the smell and taste of the cookies with the coconut flour. So I may remake them in a week or so with only 1 cup of coconut flour and build it up.

  • Nana coconut flour is a beast. You need to 1/3 the amount. And it's still finicky. Make sure you stir well enough to get all the flour wet, but not too much that it gets sticky.

  • In other news, Alex has another painful rash. Similar to what happens when she gets dairy in her system, but I haven't eaten any that I'm aware of. Her poop is greenish but thick, like tar or cookie dough, not mucous-y. It made her skin so raw that it was bleeding :-(

The only thing questionable she ate was bread from a restaurant on Saturday and a tiny bit hard boiled egg yolk on Sunday. But I've had tons of egg before without her reacting. So maybe the bread??

Yeah, I think she is. I ate a no-bake cookie to test things out a few weeks ago and she broke out with her next poopy diaper. The Wegman's sourdough bread is MPI safe and so is the rye we get, so I didn't think anything of the multigrain bread at the restaurant. :-(

ETA: I just looked up the restaurant's allergen menu/info sheet, and it says their freshly baked bread does not contain dairy. So now I'm extra confused.

  • I went to wegmens this weekend for the first time. Holy Moly that place is huge. I also spent much more than I normally would have. (due to pretty things, not always higher prices)

Yay for Wegman's! I actually find their prices very competitive and sometimes better than the regular grocery stores. Plus, they're just so much cooler than all the other places :-)

Sorry if this is in your siggy, but can your LO tolerate soy? Lots of bread has soy too.

22 months. I have no idea. I keep wondering if he is being those molars, especially since he got most of his other teeth pretty early. His 1yr molars were in by 18 months. It took an hour to get him back to sleep, and that was after I gave in to nursing him, then more crying, rolling, and whatnot until he finally went to sleep. Now I'm hiding out in my room from him since I just have no patience for his antics and whining right now.

  • @nanabanana06‌ let us know how your doggies like the treats. I've thought about making some for my dog but haven't yet. Did you post the recipe (I forget!)

  • I'm listening to Pandora this morning and a 50 Shades of Grey add popped up.

I don't understand why they made this a movie.  I don't understand why this is such a popular book.  I read the first two to find out what the hype was about.  They were terrible.  The only reason I read the second one was because my in-laws assured me that the books got better.

If you like the books ignore this.

I've read. I'm not a big fan of book to movie. Too much get lost in translation.

I like to think more of the hype is about opening up the idea that it's okay to read romance novels. Despite some of it's content, it is overall a romance.

I'm just excited that it's gotten so many people reading again. Even if it has contributed to the flood of indie authors who want a piece of the FSoG pie.
First I'll say that I haven't read any of the books.

I agree with you that it is awesome that it is getting people reading. Literacy is so important. I do really think that it is sad though that what I've heard described as "soft core porn" is what it takes to get people reading and so much wonderful literature is going unread by so many people.

Dreams? M was rolling around in her bed crying but asleep this morning. We went through months of waking up screaming in the MOTN and it seems to have finally slowed.  Never seems teeth related. Just crazy toddler things.

Who knows. ... I'm trying to get him to nap right now. Nap and bed time are the only times he nurses now, but he doesn't want to stop nursing. I'll ask him of he's ready to sleep and he won't unlatch... until I finally just get him off.and then he screams at me.

I don't agree with this it being romance.  From my take on the first two books, I just couldn't get behind that kind of relationship.  And I just hated the two characters.  I couldn't stand that the main character would repeatedly describe not eating, not being hungry, forgetting meals, and only being able to eat a few bites.

And the whole wanting to "help" or "change someone just bothers me.

    I could go on.
