How big is your maternity wardrobe?

Just wondering how many days worth of maternity clothes must have? Or how many tops and bottoms? I have lots for warm weather but barely anything for cold it seems. I hate spending $ on maternity clothes. I can't find my size in pants in normal stores which sucks and only a few places online sell my size. Pant are just expensive. Tops I can get anywhere thankfully.

Re: How big is your maternity wardrobe?

  • I have 2 pairs of khakis for work and (i think) 3 pairs of jeans.  I got 1 dress, a bulky sweater and a lighter one.  My sister also gave me a bunch of tops.

  • I have 3 pairs of jeans (two blue, one black), about ten thousand white shirts (I have to wear a white shirt and jeans every day to work), probably 3 other tshirts that aren't maternity that I bought a little big, three sweaters, and a shit ton of sweats (also not maternity, but they all fit and I have an addiction to VS sweats).
  • That's how it is where I am most of the year.. Nice and warm. I wore flip flops today. I'm headed to MN and CO for a few weeks I need warmer clothes than yoga pants. Whaa. I'll be in Houston in Jan. Hit or miss with chilly that time of year. Not cold.. But chilly at times. I have one pair of jeans. Maybe I'll get two more.

I haven't thought of H&M! I'll look there! Gap jeans are so freaking expensive! I'm have a smaller build with annoyingly short legs. Ankle length is long on me most of the time and I don't sew. I do own scissors though! Edited: typo
  • @JJBoden‌ for my trip to Boston I picked up 2 pairs of fleece lined leggings to wear under my jeans. Bought a coat & 3 sweaters at goodwill for $12. I won't be cute but, I'll be warm.
  • My friend gave me a bunch of stuff but I don't wear them. They're too big right now. So I've got two pairs of jeans, 4 shirts and 4 "sweaters" that are so thin it's a joke. All from Target. I'm hoping that's all I'll need feels like such a waste of money...

I have 3 pairs of jeans, 3-4 tank tops for layering, and a couple of hoodies. I'm sill able to fit into some of my T-shirts and my husband's T-shirts fit me. Luckily, I don't need to dress up for work, so I've been able to keep it low budget.

Just a tip: Try your local Goodwill or thrift store. The ones near me all have a maternity section. I've been lucky enough to find some great deals on sweaters and outerwear that are just in a bigger size. I even found one of my pairs of jeans for $3!

Have you tried Old Navy? They always have sales and a lot of their jeans come in short/tall sizes.

I bought shorts from there and they are gigantic. Maybe it's just the cut though? Guess I could try their jeans and return if need be. I din't think they they have my exact size.. But heck with how much I'm packing on I might need a few sizes this go round! @Ginja85‌ where did you find those??? I need some for my trip for sure! Those sound cozy!!
  • I was lucky enough to get a bunch of clothes from my cousin, otherwise I would probably have been stuck with the skirt, pair of pants, and 4 tops I bought myself. Instead, I have more pants than I could possibly wear. Thank you, cousin, for having all your children years before I did but keeping your stuff!
I also had to buy a winter jacket because I can't do Canadian winter without one and it was the same price to get a warm maternity one as a regular one in a larger size. FTM who plans to have more kids so I think of it as an investment as from November-March it is cold enough that I will need a proper winter jacket, so there is a good chance that I'll need it again for the future.

  • Tons. More than necessary, probably. I have about 5-6 pairs of jeans, two pairs of maternity leggings, 4 solid tanks, 5 solid tees, a few blouses, a couple long sleeve shirts, and probably 4 sweaters... BUT, I have been accumulating clothes over the past two years. I had a shit maternity wardrobe with my first, and I felt like I looked like a bag lady and it affected my self esteem and my ability to embrace the cool new body. So I stalk Once Upon A Child, Gap sales, and the Target clearance rack. I also live in the freezing cold Midwest and necessitate many layers.
  • I've been wearing the same two pairs of full panel yoga pants the whole time but need some jeans or cords. On top I have been wearing gap maternity to death - a few of their pure body long sleeve shirts and some of the tanks, all worn with open sweaters over if it's cold. Pretty casual but incredibly comfy and versatile.

I'm approximately 4.5 hours south of Houston. I don't "do" cold. We went to Colorado this summer (which is where I got KU. I think it was the altitude), and it was in the 40s. WTF, it was July. My brain could not comprehend this.

Where in CO were you? I got knocked up there too! Haha We spend our summers there. I have to pack two wardrobes for the kids when we go. The cold is annoying for sure!
  • I live where we don't really get winter. I have 3 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of shorts a bunch of maternity tops from target and Asos and a lot of dresses and a mix of my regular clothes.

  • I live in CO... layers. Layers are the answer.
@JJBoden I have had terrible luck at Old Navy. I swim in all of their bottoms.

Old navy gives me a saggy butt! Haha Fun on you're in CO. We are there lots. ( daddy's job is there) It's cold where he is ( windy) but when I go to Fort Collins, Longmont or whatever, it can be 60 in the winter.. Not always obviously, but it's glorious being a bit warmer!
  • I have one pair of jeans, I'm searching for more but I'm picky. With my belly bands I can still wear my pre-pregnancy jeans. One sweater, two pairs of leggings and maybe 8 or 9 shirts, two dresses and a few tanks. Gap has had some pretty awesome sales over the last few months so I've been stocking up on the cheap!

Like @HK1020‌ I had a crap maternity wardrobe the first time around and just felt lumpy so I made an effort to dress like I would normally so I would still feel good about myself.
  • I'm in Milwaukee. 3 pairs of jeans, 2 maternity tees, 2 maternity sweaters, 2 maternity long sleeved shirts. 2 belly bands. If not for the belly bands idk what i would do. I'm getting to that point where almost none of my old shirts fit (i haven't fit into my old pants since 8 weeks). I just don't want to spend a lot of money for clothes I'm only going to wear for 18 more weeks...
  • 5 jeans, 10 or More tops, 3 skirts, 1 capri, 1 short. I love wearing leggings! I would like to find some more tops :).

  • @JJBoden‌ They are wicked comfy & toasty, could probably wear them without jeans but, I got too much butt for thatimage

I usually wear a 12/14 so I picked Queen size & they fit well & have some stretch.

    Awesome! Thank you!! :)
  • I have two pairs of jeans, two pairs of leggings, four dresses and 5 workout outfits that are growing with me quite nicely. I am slowly picking up scrub sets at work so I'm ready for when I outgrow my current ones. I think I'm done, at least for now.

Hidden for the sake of your eyes!

  • My wardrobe just got bigger over the weekend. I just have popped. Where I could use my regular strechy clothes, with maternity jeans. Now I need something with way more give.
  • I just keep slowly adding on when I find good sales and will layer maternity tops with different non-maternity cartigans to hopefully achieve different looks without looking like I wear the same thing every day. I have about 3 pants/leggings, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 sweaters, and 8-10 tops. I just discovered that Kohls seems to carry the same brand as destination maternity, but with way better sales and that has helped.
  • 2 pairs of skinny jeans . 3 pairs of regular jeans . 4 dressy tops . 5 nice tops . 3 pairs of jean shorts. 2 pairs of Dress pants . 3 dresses . 2 pairs of capris . :)
  • I have two pairs of jeans, two tops, a cardigan, a pair of exercise pants and two pairs of exercise tops. I have about two tops I can still pull off, as long as I wearing my full panel jeans, and i have a few dresses that, while they were't intended as maternity dresses, they have a new purpose in life.

My mom is visiting for xmas, and I totally expect to come away with many more outfits.
  • I can fit into some of my regular clothes (tops, sweaters, skirts), so I'm trying to get as much wear out if that. I purchased: 2 pants, 4 long sleeved tops (both casual and dressy) super cheap in clearance at old navy, 1 light sweater (scrunched up on sides, so I can fit at 22wks and up to 40), and 4 dresses (the fitted, stretchy, scrunched up on the sides, t-shirt material types) pretty affordable from old navy for church. And I had to spend some money on maternity pajama pants, maternity leggings for the house, nursing bras I can sleep in, and maternity underwear. I hope I do not need to buy more. I tried to get deals on sales, but am still surprised how generally overpriced everything is.
  • Oh and P.S. I'm in Jersey, so it's fairly cold here. I might need to purchase a maternity coat later down the road, but am hoping that I won't. Maybe I can borrow one of my mom's size 6 misses coats.
P.P.S I was a size 0 pre-pregnancy, but my legs hardly fit into the H&M maternity skinny jeans, size 6! So H&M is great and the prices are decent if you're getting things on sale, but you got to fit into their sizes and cuts of clothing.
  • I've found that you have to get a larger size in H&M than in regular stores. I'm a size 0-1, XS in most stores...but only somewhat fit into size 6 bottoms at H&M (my legs don't fit into their size 4 skinny pants, pretty tight in size 6). And the higher you go in size, the longer the pant legs get. I'm a 5'6" and size 6 pants were way too long. But yea, prices and fit are better than GAP
  • I have three jeans, three work pants and probably 10 tops that are mostly sweaters and work appropriate. My friend gave me a bunch of dresses but I don't really like them. I'll buy more tops as I need them. I get most at kohls and thrift shops.

I had only 2 pairs of bottoms (1 denim and the other a bit dressier) and a handful of tops that were mostly a variation of the same solid colored t-shirt. I hit the mother load on a FB BST page and got at least 4-5 more bottoms and a dozen tops for $150. I'm set for anything except a black tie ball now. Thank god. Even my students at school were starting to notice the lack of variation.

  • I don't have much but since I WFH I can get a way with yoga pants most days. Right now I have 1 pair jeans, 1 pair of nicer black pants, 1 pair work trousers and 2 pairs yoga pants. 3 dresses, 4-5 long sleeve tops and a winter coat. I'm wearing as much non-maternity as possible right now because I really don't want to buy more stuff and if I wear it all now, I won't be able to look at it come April.

  • I don't have a whole whole lot, but I still mix in quite a bit of regular clothing. Two years ago, with DD, long tops were really in so I bought more regular stuff than maternity and wore it after she was born still. I have: 2 pairs jeans, 2 pairs leggings, 1 maxi dress, 6-7 shirts and sweaters.

I work in a business casual setting. I have 5 pair of dress pants & 3 jeans and two dresses.

I have around 10-12 maternity shirts. I try to buy plainer colored tops & pair with different pre-pregnancy cardigans & change up jewelry.
  • I have a weeks worth. My wardrobe consists of: 2 pairs of jeans, 3 sweaters (thanks Gap for having a $19.99 sale), 2 pairs of yoga pants, 2 pairs of leggings, 6 long sleeve tshirts, and 2 tunics. I can still wear 1 pair of drawstring workout pants from prepregnancy. Most of it I've gotten on sale ($6 ON tshirts, BOGO free at sears, BOGO 50% off at Motherhood). There is no way I could wear my regular clothes at this point.

I definitely don't have enough. I only have 1 pair of jeans for the weekends and a handful of pants for work...only 2 of those have the full panel so those 2 get worn A LOT. I have maybe 10 tops that are going to work this pregnancy with cardigans (last pregnancy all my maternity clothes were summer things) but desperately need more. I liked to have enough tops to go 3 weeks in my last pregnancy so I didn't feel like I wore anything TOO often.

I did get some great deals on ThredUp a couple weeks ago - so if anyone is interested in going that route feel free to use my referral link so I can get more myself! :P Editted by mod for spam.
  • 2 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of leggings, 1 pair of work pants, about 8 shirts. 3 dresses (but two are summer dresses)

  • I've got a ton! 4 pair of jeans, a pair of cords, 2 khakis, 4 dress pants a half dozen dresses, 4 skirts, a ton of casual and work appropriate tops. I layer cardigans over tanks from my first (summer PG). Thankfully, I was given a bunch of hand me downs from friends, so while I've bought some stuff myself, I'm fortunate to have similarly sized, generous friends!

  • I only have 1 pair of jeans, 1 long sleeved shirt and 1 sweater.

I like both the shirt and sweater, which are from GAP. The jeans, from Motherhood, were a bit big but I figured might not be bad... but they have just become stretchy monsters. I don't work in a professional setting so it's not a big deal but it kind of sucks how saggy they have become.

It is what I wore to both family Thanksgivings and what I plan on wearing to both family Christmases. I still fit for the most part in my regular clothes so as soon as I get a little bigger I imagine I might be making some more purchases.
  • I've splurged in my 2 jeans (underbelly) felt I could wear them after. I'm a definite fan of showing belly off so I like more fitted tops/dresses which I'm hoping I can use after baby comes....it may be wishful thinking....also I may not want to be flaunting my post baby belly
  • I have a pair of jeans, a pair of cords, two tops and some more stuff on the way (tops ans leggings). I've been managing with my old clothes but I just cleaned my closet of stuff that I won't be wearing for a while (jeans and skirts) and the stuff is so small! How did I ever fit into it?

  • I work in a professional setting so I needed at least 4 pairs of dress pants. Kohls has pants with secret belly fit that are on sale with an additional 20% off. They have petite sizes which fit me perfectly (I'm 5'1").
