My LO inches his way up to the corner of the crib and jams his head against the slots in the corner. He wakes up wanting to move and roll but he can't because he stuck up there. How should I handle him crying in those situations? And/or how do I prevent him from getting into the corner in the first place?
@CAMag He goes down at 6:30. We leave him until 5. He seems to be fully rested after only 10 hrs of sleep. I'm hoping that as he gets more active, he will sleep longer. He's a pretty lazy baby.
@abbyseiden No advice, but my LO does the same exact thing. I place her on her back in the middle of her crib every night and within seconds she has flipped over and scooted into that d@mn corner!
Thanks Ladies. DH said he did end up falling asleep on him tummy for one of his naps yesterday so I think we will try to let him learn to soothe himself on his stomach. Last night was night three and he went down without any crying (he was EXHAUSTED though which I think helped) and only woke once during the night because he had rolled onto his tummy and woken himself up. I did go in and flip him last night and he went right back to sleep, but I don't want to have to do this for him all the time. And then of course this morning he work up on his tummy too (and also stuck in the corner). I will try to leave him on his stomach tonight and see what happens!
Ok, I have a dumb question. DD has been waking up every 1-2 hours at night and I'm exhausted. I think I'm mentally ready to try Sleep Easy. But I think I read that you shouldn't start if LO is teething. How do I know if DD is just being fussy or teething? She has some of the signs of teething but I'm not sure. Should I try the sleep training anyway?
I still haven't started yet b/c I've been waiting for my husband to get back from a military detachment. DS was also not doing so badly. Often STTN, sometimes waking 1x, taking good naps. The probably was he just wasn't consistent. Well, in the past two weeks his sleep has gotten worse. He's woken the last three nights in a row. I can tell he's not hungry b/c he barely eats. So my question is, do I still wean him from night feedings if he's not waking regularly to eat and doesn't seem hungry? Or do I just go straight to the check-ins? Thanks!!
@frenchchocolate611 fwiw my DD did that when she first started rolling - she would flip to her stomach, cry, I'd have to go in and flip her back, repeat. This only lasted a few days though, and she was over it and never did it again.

You might not feel comfortable doing this, but we rolled a large beach towel on both sides and taped it together at the top and DD sleeps on that. It was the only way to get her out of the RnP! It looks like she's in a pea pod or little boat. It keeps her from rolling around.
@cece673 If LO is waking, I would still wean. Is there one or two consistent times? When I weaned DS, he was only nursing for 6 min so I was able to wean quite quickly.

I think we're teething here too. DD has all the signs, including red cheeks. I think it can last a long time but for us it comes and goes. Maybe start on a night your LO is feeling okay. We've given DD baby Tylenol before bed a couple times and I think it helped.
Ugh...dang vaccines messing everything up. Had an awesome 12 hours of sleep last night but cried up to and through his entire first nap. Also the dream feed apparently brought him fully awake, which made for a tricky situation.
But anyways, DH mentioned to me last night that since LO will be 5 months next week, we will need to cut out the dream feed soon. How did you do that with BFing? Do you treat it the same as a MOTN feed and decrease your time feeding? Or just drop it cold turkey?
Silly question.... let's say nap time is 12 - 1pm. They wake up at 12:30 though, but we leave them in their crib till 1pm to hit the full hour. When do we start the 2.5 hour 'timer' for when next nap time begins, 12:30 when they woke or 1pm when they got up?
We've been doing 1pm, but then technically they're awake for 3 hours instead of 2.5 hours.
@katekat8721 Makes total sense. I start the wake time timer at the end of the hour so we don't end up with too much time before bed. However, if DS is really struggling to make it the full 2.5 afterwards, I will put him down up to 15 min early and really stretch out our nap routine by starting it up to 25 min early.
ETA: I think this is another use your best judgement situation. If the girls are dying to sleep, they need to sleep.
Thanks for the suggestions, I hope it's as simple as putting him down lower in the crib. Once I read that I kept thinking to myself "Duh! why do I keep putting him down in the middle if he always ends up that the top?"
Update: I put him to sleep lower down in the crib and he slept beautifully through the night. When I woke up at 5:30 to pump up before work he was in about the middle of the crib. When I finished pumping and getting myself ready for work and checked in at about 6:he was shoved up against the corner in the top!
Hi everyone! A primarily lurker here who is currently in the middle of chapter 3 (step by step sleeping) of the sleepeasy solution. I saw that you ladies had started quite the thread on it and figured it must be working so why not give it a shot.
We're starting tonight. I've got a few questions though: my DD is currently using a zipadeezip. Should I go ahead and stop using this? It seems like this would fit into the "sleep associations" in appendix A that I should stop using. Thoughts?
And earlier in the book, I believe it said that a dream feed is not necessary for babies over 5 months and 15 pounds- did you read that the same? If that's the case, then I should only be doing nighttime feed weans.
As far as the zipadeezip goes, I would stop using it as I assume you don't plan on using it for the foreseeable future (6 mo+). I think it's important to help LO sleep learn in the exact environment you plan on having them sleep up until they start to climb out of the crib. We use a Halo sleepsack. I just think that's one more transition you would have to make.
I'm starting chapter 4, and I haven't seen anything address what to do when DD rolls over onto her belly- which makes her so so mad. So if she's on her belly, can I turn her onto her back or is this something I need to let her get used to as well?
@frenchchocolate611 is having the same issue. I would try to leave LO alone. FC - how's that going for you?
Eh, not so great so far. But we are working in it! I am trying to get him comfortable falling asleep that way, but I have caved a few times and gone in and flipped him over. The good news us a lot if the time he will fall right to sleep when I flip him.
@frenchchocolate611 I have to imagine they'll eventually either get used to sleeping on their belly or how to flip back over?! That's one of my fears going into this. I think we're going to start tomorrow night so I can do more reading tonight and then tomorrow while she "naps".
I've skimmed almost this entire thread and can't find anything on this:
So tomorrow for nap time, (we're starting tonight), I'll put her down at her designated time. She is to be in her crib for one full hour. Regardless of whether she sleeps. Do checkins as necessary. If she's still awake after an hour, I get her up. If she falls asleep after 55 minutes, I let her sleep for one hour.
So far so good?
So then if she doesn't sleep at all, would the second nap begin at the original designated time or would this be adjusted?
@lindsaynewbride10 if LO does not sleep AT ALL during the designated hour for nap time, get her up and try again in an hour. The next nap would then be 2 1/2 hours after she actually sleeps, I think.
If she falls asleep at the end of the hour, let her nap for as long as she wants and then the next nap will start 2 1/2 hours after she wakes up from the first.
If J cries intermittently, or only sleeps for a half hour or something and then cries for the rest of the hour, I do check ins and then get him up at the end of the hour. The next nap then starts 2 1/2 hours after the end of the hour, if that makes sense. Hope this helps.
It does help, thank you for the clarification!
And so far so good for night 1- took her 43 minutes to knock out. We're also going cold turkey from her zipadeezip so I'm anxious to see how all of this plays out!
@lindsaynewbride10 there is hope! LO just fell asleep on his tummy! He didn't even cry I was shocked. Now let's see how long it lasts
DS struggled a bit with tummy sleeping too, but now he rolls onto his tummy pretty much as I'm putting him down and actually sleeps sounder this way. FX for you
Well she fell asleep at bedtime after 43 minutes, then slept until 3:56, and we've been doing check ins ever since (it's now 4:32, so a little over half an hour so far for this waking).
And yes she does keep rolling over onto her belly which makes it worse for her but darn it she's gotta either figure out how to fix it or be okay with it! We'll see!
Hang in there @lindsaynewbride10 , it does get easier. My LO had the same problems with tommy sleeping, once he figured out how to suck his fingers while on belly, he started going down so much easier! Most night he doesn't even cry when being put down. This sleep training has been great for us.
So last night M was officially weaned off if the 3 am feeding. She woke up at 4:30am and cried off and on until 6am. So hard. She then fell asleep until 8:30am. Now I originally wanted a 7 am rise. So I am assuming we will have similar results tonight. Should I let her sleep or wake her up at 7?
We are now starting nap training. She follows the schedule well. But now she's CIO. She's great when she goes to bed at 7 pm. But still struggling when she wakes up in the middle if the night. So I figure MOTN and MOTD are the same problem no sense in delaying one. Omg I'm so sleep deprived I need coffee....
@krystalann94 So funny you ask! This just happened to us this morning. DS's first nap is usually around 7:30. I kept an eye out for sleep cues and sure enough, he was ready at 7:30.

I have noticed a drop in supply, but I do a midnight dream feed and I don't pump, so I couldn't tell you numbers. In short, yes.

Love yalls. I know it's worth it.
