Nurseries?

Just curious if anyone is planning the nursery yet since many of us have found out our babies' sexes? These posts were my favorite last time, so I was wondering when will they start?

Sorry if this feels too soon, but I'm about halfway there and I know this pregnancy is going to go way faster than I realize...

Re: Nurseries?

  • Yeah, I would love some ideas. We are in the middle of a remodel. I think just one window and trim left on what will be our bedroom, then the living room, and finally the nursery. I'm 20 weeks already so I'm feeling the time crunch to get everything else done.

  • Nursery planning is stressing me out. I'm not a huge pink fan so I wanted to do purple for baby girl's nursery, but I also want to pick out a couple fitted sheets so I can pick a paint color to match. I just can't find any sheets that I really love, and I'm def not willing to spend $50 on a crib sheet. I still have 19 ish weeks, right?
  • @missab‌ , that sounds very cute! We also had to say goodbye to our dining room, but we didn't use it that much anyway. I never thought to do a theme in the playroom, though.

I am currently trying to decide if I want to do a woodland creature theme in the nursery or no theme and just color coordinate, or a completely different theme. I was team green with DS so I didn't really get to do a nursery the way I can this time. And this might be it for me, so I can't make a decision! Argh!

  • If a boy we are doing sports themed. If a girl probably pink and cheetah print stuff.

The changing table already came in and crib should be here next week.
  • We have everything picked out already.  DH is starting to finish the basement so I can have a closet, spare bedroom, and living space (guy's room).  Then we can move the current furniture out of what will be the nursery.

I ordered the furniture (in white) crib, dresser that will double as a changing table, and a glider from Buy Buy Baby over Veteran's Day weekend.  I've had the paint color (aegean teal) and the decorations (kittens and butterflies) picked out.  I bought the cutest wall decals and we printed out  a few pictures to frame and hang.

As for bedding, I want to do the Lambs and Ivy Tiffany set, with the mobile and lamp.  I bought the butterfly from the set to put on the wall.   DH thought the fisher price mobile was more practical.  But I didn't like it.   I still need to order a narrow bookcase for the room and then we should have pretty much everything for it.  I'd like a different light fixture but I think that might be going a bit too crazy with things, and we don't have high enough ceilings for what i want.

My friend also didn't want pink so she did a green and purple jungle theme for her baby girl. It turned out really cute and I think there are a ton of options if you go that route. I can't relate, because I love all things pink.

  • @lovemymuttzillas‌ , I think navy can look really good if done right. Is there a big window in the space to lighten up the room? If so, I say go for it but would maybe recommend an accent wall in a lighter color (tan or beige? Depends on the theme...) on the wall opposite the window.

  • We had planned on doing the same theme regardless of boy or girl. Link here! Also Click Me!
  • We are going with an animal theme (elephants, giraffes, etc).  We found the cutest bedding set at Pottery Barn that's grey and white.  We are going to add some pops of color by buying (or I may try to make them) some canvases that have animal silhouettes and cute sayings on them.  I also found an oversized giraffe stuffed animal to help soften the room.  I'm leaning towards not getting a changing table, because the room we are using as the nursery isn't all that big.

I'm definitely getting anxious, because we are 21 weeks on Saturday and have not made a single baby purchase.  My H travels Monday-Thursday every week and it getting into his "busy season" with work and because of this I feel like I need to have the nursery set by the end of the second trimester, or I'm going to be looking at the crib in the box and try to put it together myself when I'm huge!

  • @Swoon13‌ , I think this would be cute for enchanted forest (may be too princessy for your liking, though):

  • Nope not to early. Lol I've been looking at things for awhile. My parents dropped off a bunch of trolls, my little ponies and Care Bears from like the 80s/90s. I told my husband if we had a girl it'd be kinda fun to do that theme but he says no. (Guarantee if we had a boy and he still had a bunch of his ninja turtle and transformers he'd be all over it.) but I'm making my own nursery bedding and curtains. I can't find anything I like that's not like $300 for a two piece set. I spent $275 this weekend on materials for either sex nursery. So half will be going back after Thanksgiving. That includes fabric for skirt, three crib sheets, 5 bottles of paint, 5 canvases (last two are for baby reveal that will hopefully go in nursery). I forgot fabric for curtains but whatever that'll be bought soon. So... Yeah. Not too early.

  • We were team green with DD, had a gray nursery with white trim and chair rail.  We also had white shelves.  We purchased two small cans of trim paint, a blue and pink.  After DD was born, while we were still at the hospital, my sister went to our house and painted the trim pink.  We still have the can of blue, so if this one is a boy, I'm sure we will just have my sister or some other family member change the trim.

As a grown woman (who was a tomboy throughout her formative years) I've never outgrown fairytales so that is awesome!
Glad you like that! My son currently uses the sleep owl by cloud b and also has that turtle that displays the stars on the ceiling (he likes this but it isn't necessary). This frog seems to kill two birds with one stone, since it has the sounds but also lights up.

  • Love your idea @Swoon13‌! I just painted DS room green and my kitchen is green so idk if I could do another green room, but it has crossed my mind!

@PinkDahLia44‌ I won't completely discount pink. I just don't like baby pink I guess, which is hard to avoid with babies. I did see a really pretty mature (I don't think that's the word I'm looking for, but I can't think of a better one) Rose patterned sheet that I really liked on Carousel that I could accent with greens that I think would be way cute

This is the sheet in question
  • Very pretty, @hillbillywife‌ , and a flower theme like that could grow nicely with your daughter.

  • We aren't finding out what we are having, but we are doing light grey walls with a navy accent wall that our white crib will be against and all trim and furniture will be white. Accent colour of blankets and any throw pillows will hopefully be light yellow and then when baby arrives, pinks for a girl, or stick with blues for boy.
Also planning to add some art/ wall hangings that are airplane/map related. (Hubby has always been huge into both of those things and hubby's dad is a pilot.)
Love all these ideas. So excited to have it come together. :)
  • I'm so excited for the nursery, I couldn't find any bedding I liked that wasn't like $500 for a two piece set so I purchased enough material to make my own and curtains/decorations for much less. I bought my paint yesterday and will be reusing ds nursery furniture.

Now just to find the time to do it all.

We will have to do a thread in March/April to see everyone's finished nurserys!
  • We haven't found out the sex yet, but we already plan on doing a jungle theme in our 2nd bedroom. I fell in love with this wall on Pinterest & it kind of became my inspiration.

We're slowly starting to put things together.  I chose an elephant theme a while ago before we even decided if we were going to find out the sex (which is next Wed!), and we're doing all white furniture because the room is pretty small and want to keep it bright and open-feeling.  We've already painted, put in new carpet and blinds, and got our dresser.  3 of the walls are a soft grey.  The 4th wall is where the crib is going and it's teal.  My parents are graciously buying the crib for us.  I already have fabric bought to do a box valence over the window with the alphabet and elephants. I also have some elephant crib sheets on my registry at Target.

So far, I've got grey walls.. lol. I'm really loving coral, gold and tiny pops of aqua/teal for our little girl.

We picked out a dresser that is being painted by some awesome local refab folks - but we are stuck on doing it a distressed grey or a solid coral.

We really struggle b/c I like more eclectic styles and he is very traditional. I'm sure it'll come together eventually.

Advice: let the room evolve. Don't try to plan it out step-by-step b/c your preferences will change over time and the flexible attitude will result in the perfect, doesn't seem overly planned type of room. =)

  • Baby boy # 2 for us and we are building a house. The nursery will be last minute because the house will not be ready until February. We will probably be using the same crib bedding ( Noah's Ark). I haven't completely decided on a wall color but it will probably be gray.

I love decorating but I don't like theme like bedding, wall decals, or the "wall prints" that come with bedding. So I'm theme less but I'm sure I'll have a few plush bunnies around the room. I guess if I had to say what my theme was it will be herringbone.

Here's the bedding I purchased. I also LOVE the cloud bedding by RH & lambie by Pottery Barn. So if I did a theme I guess that would be it :)

  • DD had a pink and green ladybug and butterfly theme.  We didn't tell anyone her name until she was born so we always called her Ladybug.  This time around, we aren't sure what we'll do but I'm thinking giraffes and maybe a zoo type theme.  We find out the sex on Friday so maybe that will help me start planning, but you all have given me some great ideas!!

  • We'll be moving in May (not ideal but military life) so while I'm having a ton of fun planning my nursery and want to make a bunch of things in the next few months all the big purchases and decorating will wait. Our theme is Harry Potter because DH and I both grew up with them and I'm still a bit obsessed. We're team green and I like that it works for a boy or girl so I can work on it while I'm pregnant.

    Anniversary

  • We're team blue. I'm not into themes, so after weeks of searching Pinterest, I found a color scheme I really like.  And I'm obsessed with the "Oh the places you'll go" print, I'm planning on getting this printed fairly large and hanging either over the dresser or over the crib.  The nursery furniture we ordered is Espresso, so it'll be a little different from the picture.  We're still in planning mode and will probably wait until after Christmas to start painting and putting things together.
  • We're having a boy. However we're moving in July..so sorry kiddo mama ain't putting together your nursery til we get to our new home in a new town 4 hours away from everyone and everything we know. Good thing I love my soon to be husband or else I would NOT be putting up with this craziness. Any-who when we do put the nursery together it's going to be space/travel/adventure theme. Basically I couldn't make up my mind so we're doing a combo of all three! I'm crafty/cheap and making pretty much everything myself! I plan on going to the fabric store this weekend to see what goodies I can find :)
  • I really like the nautical theme and the space theme so I'm think of mixing the two. Kind of a ship in the sea and stars in the sky. We'll see.

  • @ashtat2012‌ I've done something similar in my old apartment with a diamond pattern, so a few tips.

    1) throughly prime & patch your walls, any little ding or knick will show more than if you were just painting a solid color

    2) paint your base color (the cream) choose a flat or eggshell latex, allow to dry 2-3 days

    3) using Scott blue painter's tape create your pattern (do not buy cheap tape, the paint will bleed under)

    4) to help your pattern color pop I suggest using a satin finish latex paint

    5) because its an animal print I would use sponges & 2 different shades of tan/brown close in color. This will create more of a textured feeling. You can also choose 1 color like the photo & using a roller brush just go over all the walls.

    6) apply 2-3 coats of paint if using a roller

    7) let dry at least 6 hours & peel off the tape, go back with the cream & touch up any spots that need it.
  • We are going to be moving into our new house just over a month before baby is born so I can't start anything yet! We are possibly team PINK but waiting for our A/S on the 5th to confirm! So far I know I want light gray walls and purples and teals. I bought a dresser already that is a distressed turquoise too and I am considering buying a white crib. I like pink but I didn't want to have the whole room in pink if it's a girl so that's why I went with purple and teal!

  • I have no nursery to plan this time since baby #3 will share rooms with either my son or daughter once he or she is sleeping well enough at night. But I do have a whole house to plan since we'll be moving into our new house in the spring. DS's room will be cowboy themed and will feature DH's childhood saddle, the chaps he wore in high school, and his first buck, which we had mounted. I am not completely sure on DD's room, but she currently has sheets with horses on them, so we may go with that. I am making a quilt for her bed that hopefully will be done before we move in!
