( I had a horrible day yesterday ( After taking DD out of the bath.... She wanted me to straiten her hair (she is 8 and has super curly hair like her mom) so every once an a while for a special even I'll straiten it for her. She had bugs in her hair .... Lice ( .... Noooo!!! This can't be!! I'm nesting and for the first time in my hole mommy life I had ever speck of laundry cleaned and put away!! Thank god my other two kids are clean and so are hubby and I, but this just can't be happening!!! I've never gone through this before and called the pediatrician and my OB to get the best advice possible! To top it all off.... My vacuum broke yesterday while cleaning everything .... I was 95% done the vacuuming I needed, but now I have nothing until it gets fixed... And there is a baby on the way people!!! I'm sorry I had to vent!!! I'm not a praying kind of person, but if you have any good vibes please send them my way [-O<
@hoping4aUNICORN good vibes your way! I spent yesterday morning treating my bfs daughter for lice (its been an ongoing battle from her mothers house) I hate it and feel so embarrassed by it.
Oh no, @hoping4aUNICORN, that sucks! I hope it ends up not being too big of a hassle to deal with the lice issue. I remember having it as a child and back then had to get a special shampoo and my mom had to go through my hair with a fine-toothed comb. That was the part I hated. Definitely sending good vibes your way!
December '14 November Siggy Challenge - How I Feel in Third Trimester
Ahh lice, so much fun in my line of work. Tis the season though. We had a kid with them yesterday. Kindergartner, which is the usual suspect. His older brother had em too but the stylist didn't see them until she was almost finished cutting his hair. We are all well aware of the drill. Toss the comb and capes disinfect the life out of everything else
@hoping4aUNICORN, sorry about the lice! Hope you can resolve that quickly. Can you have someone bring you a vacuum to borrow? Or to help you around the house while you deal with the lice?
Possibly unpop op: I don't love ice cream. Or fro yo. I don't hate them. If someone else wants to go get gelato or Coldstone, I wouldn't refuse to go. I'd just never suggest it myself.

This just makes me feel like you've never had really, really, really good ice cream. The alternative is to believe that you just don't like it that much, and that does not compute. XD
It's possible? I've had gelato in Italy though, and while I went out of my way to have it multiple times, it was more because that's what you do in Italy than because I thought it was so amazingly delicious.
FWIW, I do love other sweets! Ice cream just isn't my favorite.
I realize I'm a freak of nature.
D14 November Siggy Challenge - How I Feel 3rd Tri:
I have a little ice cream almost every night. Of course I love it, but it's mostly bc I give a bite to each of my dogs. They know the sound of my freezer opening is.
Speaking of dogs, I played videos of babies crying just now. They didn't care at all. One kept right on snoring. That's a good sign, right?
We're now over halfway through November, right? Time flies! I started getting a bout of contractions coming every 3-5 minutes for two hours last night. It's most likely prodromal labor. Please stay put until after we see Interstellar and Mockingjay this week!

Holy crap, the birth announcement thread is blowing up! Like every other day, someone posts. I'm 36 weeks today; it's so real!
I now have milk in my fridge that will expire after Q arrives. Shit is REAL!
I finally washed everything today and we're getting his area in our room set up. Since we won't be putting his nursery together until after the new year when we get new carpet installed and my office is currently what will be his room, there's really been no need up to now. HOLY COW do I have a lot of hand-me-downs. I might not be doing laundry for a week after he comes.
Also, I found out today that Gone Girl was filmed in the town where my dad works, about 45 min from my hometown. My cousin's husband is on the local city police force and provided security at the hotel for the actors and Ben Affleck apparently used the fitness center attached to the hospital where my dad works every day. Mom said that neither she nor Dad got to meet any of the cast, but she talked to several people who did and they said that Ben Affleck couldn't have been more gracious and Neil Patrick Harris couldn't have been more of a diva. Doesn't surprise me, honestly. And, BA wanted the characters to look like they came from the area, so he bought the entire casts' wardrobe from the local thrift stores and Salvation Army/Goodwill. I can just imagine someone watching the movie and seeing their old clothes onscreen.
I'm going to have to watch it now. I had been on the fence, but hey, there may be some local people in there I know as extras.
Anyone know if it's safe to use the dreft detergent in high efficiency washers? I assume it wouldn't be an issue?
If it has the He symbol it should be. I got some for a shower gift and I used it today just fine in the washer. I hate fragrances, though, and the smell is driving me nuts. I might have to rewash everything.
On a different note, had my baby shower Saturday, it was lovely... But I didn't get the things I needed and I got a whole bunch of stuff I didn't even register for.
I mean I guessed some people wouldn't go to the place I registered but the only things I got off of my registry were Los crib and dresser and a baby bjorn.... I have such a huge list of things to buy! I'm getting started TODAY!!
@misskilljoy I suppose I should rephrase that... I got plenty of onesies, but I don't really have warm clothes or a car seat cover and it's cold out... I have to make sure I have those things, but I feel like I gotta scramble around to get them.
I did figure that not everyone was going to get me what I registered for, but I didn't really get the essentials. It's cold out and I have one long sleeved onesie that is NB size so it might not even fit.
Like I said my shower was lovely though! I don't want to seem like I am ungrateful, just anxious to finish getting everything!

You definitely seem ungrateful. Showers are meant to help the mother to be but they don't take away your responsibility as a mother to provide what your child needs. I'm sorry you didn't get as showered as you expected.
D14 November Siggy Challenge: The feels of 3rd trimester...
I didn't get everything we needed at the shower, but I am grateful for the items that were given (registry, handmade, etc). I am still buying things for the LO such has a rain guard, car seat covers, onesies (0-3 mo and 3-6 mo). This is in addition to the large ticket items we purchased directly without going on the registry.
I have yet to have my shower. Its next weekend but we got all of our big items ourself also plus I have been buying things here and there as I find them on sale or have some extra money. I don't expect my family and friends to give me everything I need for this baby. If we couldn't afford to have one on our own we wouldn't be pregnant right now.

You did get a crib, a dresser, and a car seat some where. Be grateful enough for that. Those are the expensive items, you should be prepared to buy all baby items yourself. Not rely on the guests of your shower to provide this for you. If they just got you a book, you should be grateful because they didn't have to buy you anything.

I just finally could read @HorseFeathers3 birth story (the birth announcement thread freezes up on mobile for me) the thought of a horse kick to the belly has been my worst fear every time I've been in the barn this pregnancy. T&Ps for baby Shelby. So glad they were able to deliver her safely. Keep us posted!!!

I love seeing movies that were filmed in my town! I have a bunch of friends in the theatre community from my own theatre days and I can usually spot several of them as extras! So much fun.
Yeah, I'm a spoiled princess and had 3 showers. Maybe about half of people looked at the registry. Almost all big ticket items (over $100) we started buying back in June so as not to depend on others for it or have a need to scramble all at once at the end. I still have rather a lot of registry stuff I feel I "need," which is a VERY subjective term (I suspect this may be the case with you @kirstey728).
Gifts are nice, but I can't help but feel strange receiving them from a bunch of people just for reproducing. I've been very overwhelmed by the fact that these people are willing to take time out from their busy schedules to be excited about a new baby with me. That's amazing! We're all so busy!
Anyways...what I really came here to say: Baby dropped yesterday! I CAN BREATHE! I forgot how much I missed that.
Had a wonderful weekend; first in a while and all because DD actually got 11.5-12hrs of sleep from Fri-Sun night. She is a whole new kid when rested and Sun she was on fire! No accidents save 1, entertained herself almost all day Sun, and we saw a lot of imaginary creative play from her that was really wonderful to watch. Domesticity kicked me in the ass yesterday too; cooked breakfast/lunch/dinner from sctrach and apple crisp. Must be nesting or else I felt mellow from finally being able to sleep till 9am!
My BFF since I was 14 (this is amazing if you're an Army brat) surprised me with a baby gift Sat night! She sent me this lavender satchel bear and uber soft blanket, along with some German cookies from this authentic German bakery in AZ where she lives. So touched and I'm hoarding the cookies for after the baby is born hehe.
36 growth scan was today; head down, measured 36wks dispite my fundal height jump so all is well. On the high range of normal for amniotic fluid, but OB is still very happy with weight, BP, HR, etc etc so I'm pleased as punch. Got the butt swap and uncomfortable cervix check. Was surprised to hear I'm already 1.5cm dialated this early but still high and tight. Said baby was 6lbs 6oz but who knows with the scan. She does have the longest legs though and the tech said she saw lots of hair. I didn't see hair but know baby got DH's big round head again so that'll be fun!
Still can't walk without pain my my right buttcheck; not sciatica just weakness in the leg as a result but otherwise no problems. Can't roll over at all but who can at this point? lol Only downer of the week was the $800 we dropped on repairs to DH's car. I'm still crying over the bank acct.
Sorry for the wall of text hope everyone had a mostly good weekend!
Even though I told her not to, my mom bought DD the Elf on the Shelf....that freaking thing creeps me out! I know it is not about me but I was really hoping that would be a Christmas tradition we could avoid.
Elf needs to take his ass back to the North Pole then. Doesn't he know Santa needs all the help he can get?
I dunno...it's crazy what kids can remember. Santa gave Leo a climber slide thing last year and to this day he still remembers that Santa brought it. He was 1 year and 5 months.
D14 November Siggy Challenge: The feels of 3rd trimester...
@leosmom25 - He'll probably forget it by the time he's older, though. Kids tend to remember things from very early childhood, but at a certain point in their development they lose a lot of early memories. It's something about their brain development. I don't remember all the details because it came up in my child psych/development class in Teacher's College, but there were studies done that showed that isolated memories (rather than things that happened repeatedly) tended to "disappear" or get replaced as kids aged.
Who knows, though. Psychology changes all the time and it's mostly theories so that might all be considered BS now.
Oh absolutely! I'm not saying he'll remember it for life I was just shocked he remembered something from a year ago, especially something he was too young to really even understand the concept of like Santa.
