Re: UO

  • I hate the starving third world country kids commercials. You pay money for medical treatmen and food but why don't they teach safe sex and hand out condoms like they do us in school? Hello? If you are starving and can't feed yourself why bring children into this world to starve, and not just one but multiple? Common sense...can I donate that? As heartless as I just sounded I do donate to the ASPCA...my SIL works for them so I feel better knowing where it goes.
Then maybe you should donate to charities that promote access to family planning for everyone? There's a lot of places in the world where it's tough to get access to reproductive health & family planning services. Hell, it's hard enough to get that shit here! It doesn't help that the U.S. Government defunded their assistance to a lot of aid organizations that provide that kind of help during the Bush years. I'm not sure if Obama has fully undone that damage or not. There's also some places where you can't get that stuff because the government doesn't want you to have it. I remember reading awhile ago about one of the developing countries ruled by Catholics where you basically CAN'T get access to conforms and BC, and reading about a family where they'd prefer to have three kids spaced a few years apart but instead have 8, because they just can't get their hands on contraceptives to do the kind of family planning & child spacing they'd prefer And then you have the charities that have done shit like sterilize women against their will to 'help' them. Then they don't have kids they can't afford but that's not proving access to family planning options, that's taking their choices away. Reproductive health and choice is a HUGE issue, in the US and everywhere. I strongly believe that everybody should have access to reproductive healthcare, which is why I donate to Planned Parenthood. It's important shit. And you can donate to ASPCA--donate to the charity that makes you happy, even if it's not the 'biggest' or 'worst' problem in the world that they're fighting. That's perfectly fine, you don't have to justify yourself. But it's extremely ignorant to say that it's their own fault for having kids and being stupid and their kids should just fucking starve. It's not that simple. Even in THIS country with much better access to reproductive healthcare, the MAJORITY of children are accidental or mistimed.
I'm sorry if you feel I'm ignorant, but I NEVER said I want their kids to starve nor did I say they were stupid. Please don't put words into my mouth. And I do donate money, time, and when I wasn't a mother much more as in helping teach kids so in my neighborhood and areas. My FIL actually went on a mission to build schools and homes for some of the African countries and many people just didn't care about learning to be safe. And no it wasn't bc of their "ruler" I never said i want to force anyone to do anything. I simply ment I wish people would learn to use common sense! Yes before I get lectured on birth control isn't 100%, trust me I know every time I've gotten pregnant I've been on the pill. Im sorry but if you are making the choice to have sex and know that theres a possibility of becoming pregnant, and you are starving and cannot provide for yourself, why do it? And yes before you start on the rape issue, trust me I've been raped before so i know it's real. And for those that want to make the choice after that I honestly wish any woman could. I honestly wish I was able to help more by informing people and helping them get whatever they need, but I'm sorry that I don't feel it's my responsibility to give to something where apparently they cannot use their brains. Its not hard to figure out how babies are made. The commercials show "families" well why weren't they more careful after their first child. Please by all means tell me why its not their fault? Without throwing in rape, or religion. And why depend on the U.S. Government? Why is it this countrys responsibility to "fix" problems elsewere? That right there is why there's so many people in this country that lcan't what they need. I can see helping countries that neighbor us like Canada if they needed it and we had it, bc that affects this country. But not every little problem is up to this country to "fix." But then again I'm sure you have some reasoning about the government too. Edit: I'm genuinely sorry to anyone that I rubbed the wrong way. I do donate to more than ASPCA, and more than just money. I guess I should have explained every detail before posting the first time. An no I don't want someone else to fix it so the commercials will stop...I just turn the channel and don't watch. Once again common sense.
I don't know what i just read. First off, i am so sorry that you have previous sexual abuse. But you just said that you have gotten pregnant every time on the pill. But you are putting blame on people for getting pregnant under not the most ideal circumstances, and then blaming them for not using their brains?

I'm just trying to figure out your argument and what exactly you are saying.

  • @mhickey426 while I totally get not caring a whole lot about a celebrity's medical problems, I just have to second/third/fourth what PPs said- hyperemesis gravidarum is NOT the same as morning sickness. As an ER nurse I see women with HG being dismissed by family members and sometimes even doctors all the time as "its just ms" and that's awful. Just couldn't resist correcting that misconception.

My UO -1. I can't stand putting anything on my lips except plain unflavred chapstick. I only wore lipstick to me own wedding because the make up lady insisted, and I let it wear off before the ceremony. Flavored chapstick? Disgusting.

     2. I think Patrick Dempsey is one of the ugliest men to walk this planet. His face makes me angry. I do not understand the attraction with him

jackieanddan1989  thank you for clarifying. To be quite honest I didn't know that is what she had.  I don't read anything abut them all I heard is that she had morning sickness.  My post was more about the fact that people are obsessed with them.  I wish them luck with their new baby and everything but my UO is why is this news.

  • @mrsslushie I totally agree and I'm so glad that your husband's injury isn't more serious! Thank him for all of us, please. They go to work every day and face danger so we can all be safer.
  • I have a serious UO and wish this was a popular opinion: I am appreciative for a society with Police Officers. I don't get the hate and hostility towards them. Sure, it's annoying getting pulled over, but that's not all they do. My DH commutes over an hour to work everyday because he feels compelled to serve and protect (cheesy, but true). Well today, he is sitting in the hospital because someone decided that his life isn't as valuable as their freedom. He's okay, but I can't drive there to be with him because I have to be home for DS when he gets off the bus. It's sad watching people you love and admire put on a uniform that automatically turns them into a target for hate and hostility.

I love this. My DH is in the processv of trying to get into law enforcement right now and has volunteered at the National Law Enforcement Memorkal in DC for years. In our area (Baltimore area) crime is super high and being an officer puts an immediate target not just on you but on your family as well. Sure there are bad cops out there (and the media pounces on every thing so it makes it look like all cops are bad cops but that's just media bias) but the majority are just normal people, trying to do their jobs, help others and stay safe. Blind cop hatred makes me see red and if someone says the P word I just can't be their friend anymore. Best wishes for your husbands recovery.

Me-24~~ DH-25~~Married 6/15/2013~~Pregnant with our first due April 2, 2015~ Septate/ Bicornuate/Arcuate /some kind of not-normal uterus- won't know for sure which one till after babe is born~~Hoping for a full term baby!

I'm not trying to argue at all. I take full responsibility for my actions of being on birth control and still there were flukes.

The thing is every time I got pregnant I was able to take care of a child. If I was starving and couldn't take care of myself, I would keep my legs closed and be abstinent.

So for those that have a choice, who should you blame, other than forcefulness and religion who takes the blame for the ones willing to take the risk of bringing a child into the world knowing they will not be able to take care of it? So yes, I believe that if you are smart enough to know that you can't take care of yourself, you should know you're not going to be able to take care of a child, and you shouldn't depend on others to do it for you.

  • @mrsslushie‌ my brother is also a police officer and I totally get the "police hate." Anytime I hear it, I ALWAYS ask them, "Okay, you hate the police, but who are you going to call when someone breaks into your house? Or threatens your life?" Uh, it's the cops, dude. Get over yourself. We all know those "haters" will be the first ones dialing up 911 when the time comes.

I'm very glad your husband is safe and I thank him (and you) for his service. Being a police officer and loving one are tough, tough jobs.

The bolded seems pretty contradictory to me.  "They aren't stupid...but they should be smart enough to know..."

But more importantly, sex is not just for reproduction.  Sex is also about intimacy & physical pleasure.  That is all I will add here before I get carried away with frustration.

    1. Magic Mike was a terrible, horrible movie.  However, I will happily watch Channing Tatum dance any day of week.

    2. I can't remember who said it, but I completely agree: Chai > coffee.

    3. I don't know where all of the hate/feeling annoyed by @somerandomchick comes from. Maybe it's because I'm on the same page as her in regards to everything I've read from her today.

    4. I don't necessarily fault people for being uninformed/ignorant about the differences between cultures and languages.  However, I think that they should be open to learning about them and correcting misconceptions.

    My UO:
I dislike coke, pepsi, and any diet forms of the two.  If I'm going to drink pop, I'd choose any other one besides those 2.  I really only ever drink them if they are the absolute only option.

    Edit: words/punctuation

I hate the starving third world country kids commercials.

I remember reading awhile ago about one of the developing countries ruled by Catholics where you basically CAN'T get access to conforms and BC, and reading about a family where they'd prefer to have three kids spaced a few years apart but instead have 8, because they just can't get their hands on contraceptives to do the kind of family planning & child spacing they'd prefer

And then you have the charities that have done shit like sterilize women against their will to 'help' them.

And no it wasn't bc of their "ruler"

I never said i want to force anyone to do anything.

    ---------
These are the kinds of comments generally made by people who are both anti-abortion and anti-welfare. (ETA: I wasn't pointing at a political persuasion, just the lack of problem-solving sense.)

Not everyone "thinks" the way you do.

I just want to say thank you that you understand NOT EVERYONE THINKS THE SAME, hence why it's my opinion. Maybe some people should reread the words NOT EVERYONE THINKS THE SAME. I never tried to force anyone to think the way I do. I made a statement and responded to the people that quoted my opinion.

Fyi I am no an anti-help for people that need it. Just use simple common sense. And thanks but I'm fully capable of problem solving.

And no I'm not against "skittles for poor people" I've been very poor and I'm not by any means saying because someone doesn't have something they shouldn't have help.

  • The problem with fried shrimp is that they're so small you're just eating fried batter practically. Which is good in its own way obviously. I think that might be why people like fried shrimp though

Costco has these marinated shrimp that you serve cold (they're precooked, kind of like getting cocktail shrimp)... Super addictive. It's good I don't have a Costco membership and only get to eat then when my mom throws parties.

k, I should have been more clear bjt it's not fried (overly battered) shrimp in a taco, but these mexican taco trucks sell these

    image

Whole non-battered juicy (but not costco sized) shrimp with other goodies in a small tortilla, folded in half and then the glorious part- the entire thing is deep fried & served with a salsa and slices of avocado

  • I also can't believe that @lneice0160‌ is still here. There is no redemption!! Your continued responses are just making my future ability to not link your SN with this post forever utterly impossible.

FWIW, the my FIL argument or any other 6 degree of separation likening is moot. In order for your argument to be valid, you actually have to have done the work yourself.

  • Going off the earlier poster whose police hubby was getting better (can't remember the name, but glad he's doing well, wish you guys the best!) and because I really needed somewhere to put this: as a Canadian military spouse, I am incredibly upset by the reactions of some people in my country to the shooting in Ottawa yesterday and the attack in Quebec on Monday, both of which saw military members killed. I can't believe some people are playing ridiculous partisan politics at a time like this and saying it's our fault. I also can't believe the number of people who just seem not to care about what's going on. For me, these attacks have hit very close to home (how could it not when DH refers to these people as his brothers) and I'm just so frustrated by people who are apathetic or trying to use this for their agenda. It's been a hard week.

  • @somerandomchick‌ okay good for you. I'm pretty sure you've made your point, your opinion. But I didn't say most missionaries, I'm not stupid, I said my FIL. But what you're saying is that these people have all of this horrible; and it truly is horrible; stuff going on and their way of "patching" things is having kids...great point.

But from what you say I'm inhuman for my opinions bc I haven't lived like those people yet you're judging me and my opinions when you don't know how I've lived.

So how about I just say you win, congrats and you can quit lecturing me about how you're right and I'm wrong.

I think some (if not most) of that was actually directed at me.

And relax with the butthurt. You offered up your opinions, and I evaluate those based on what information you've given. I think what you said is terrible.

And you're missing the point. The peoples you are judging don't have access to the same education as you do, but you're leveling judgement on them as if they did.

ETA: for someone who's riding the coattails of her FIL's missionary work, your outlook isn't very "Christian."

Sorry to whoever said what, kinda hard to keep the lecturing straight with whom is giving it.

Trust me your not giving me anything near butthurt.

I was just trying to make whoever wants to lecture me on how my opinions are wrong to find someone else, obviously we think different, commonly what adults do, so why keep telling me I'm wrong? Do you just enjoy trying to make someone who thinks differently, think like you that much?

FYI I'm not riding anyone's coattails, I used that as an example. So don't tell me how I'm not a Christian.

@somerandomchick‌ first I am sorry for tagging the wrong person. And to you, no I don't want people to have babies when I specifically want...kinda like how just bc my opinion is different than yours you don't have to try and lecture me.

  • I love maternity clothes. I love the tight shirts, the horizontal stripes, and the belly panels. Maternity clothes are the most flattering clothes I have ever owned.

I called my sister from the Motherhood dressing room exclaiming how awesome it is to be pregnant. You get to let your gut stick out! Clothes fit great and are so comfortable! I love trying on clothes when pregnant and you will too!!!

Then, the 3rd Tri hit and I couldn't tie my shoes or wipe my ass.
This is my second baby. I know all about 3rd tri. I mostly own shoes I don't have to tie. But I think I look great when I'm pregnant, all the way to the end. The belly really balances out my ass.
I hope you didn't think I was being an ass to you. I was agreeing and adding a little flare by joking about 3rd Tri.
  • The Tim Hortons convo is way over but I have to add that Sidney Crosby had one put in at our new arena. My mom has had the TimBits and loves them! So if you ever go to a Pens game, TimBits for everyone!
