Hump Day Spam

Re: Hump Day Spam

  • Friday is our last day in NC! I'm trying to clean everything up and make it sparkly clean but bending over and scrubbing the bath tub is harder than I thought it was going to be. My back is a little more sore than usual.

GTKY: my parents got divorced before my first birthday so I had weekends with dad. Weekend mornings usually consisted of Soul Train on the tv while dad cooked the best ever breakfast and my sisters and I would talk about our week. My sisters and I all have different moms so weekends were the only time we had to bond. Then we'd go to a museum or navy pier for the day. And anyone familiar to Chicago should (hopefully) know about the house in Logan square that puts up crazy amounts of Christmas lights every year. We went to see the lights and get hot cocoa. That was our Christmas tradition with dad too.

  • Morning ladies... Hump day it is. Quick question: I've started getting family members from OOT asking when our baby shower is and I still have not been told or asked which dates work for me nor for a guest list (my BFs are all procrastinators at times). The OOT family will be coming from NC, TX, GA so of course they need time to plan ahead especially the TX fam. How do I asked that question without being needy or anxious, or seem like I'm trying to dictate what's going on. My mom who's just helping even ask me this morning and offered to help them because she's a planner and knows I like to have stuff in order. And she is fully aware of my guest list and OOT family. Help please.
I would give your mom the contact information for your friends. She can contact them and see if she can get the ball rolling. If they aren't willing to start planning, and you mom wants to, she might end up taking over. But me personally, I would just let her try to get them to understand the need to at least pick a date and get started, that way you aren't seeming pushy or greedy.

Thank you. I thought about doing that because she's offering to help. I'll send her a text now.
  • Good morning! Good luck @erobbin09 at your a/s today!

I am in  :bz-itchy mood today. What is better, innocent but sweet revenge or just letting it go? The teen in me wants revenge but the adult in me says "let it go". The revenge is just basically asking this person, in front of others, why she is moving out of state (some revenge, huh?). I heard she is trying to keep it a secret, but I saw it on FB so it's not really a secret, right? Pretty petty stuff, I know.

We had traditions when we were younger, but they have faded over the years. We always went to a movie every Thanksgiving and Christmas night.  All the Christmas traditions were fun and brought back great memories, but since my sister has been sick, my mom hates Christmas. She hates pretty much all holidays and it's hard to spend time with her because she is always with my sister (for good reasons). I just get upset with her when she says she hates it in font of my son and nephew. They are kids and deserve happy memories. For my nephew, he deserves some kind of happiness at Christmas time, it's hard for him because his mom isn't home. DH and I try our best to do our own family traditions. Every year, DS and I compete with my nephew in making the best gingerbread house. DH judges and of course my nephew always wins. ;)

I remember watching Soul Train on weekends. I think Solid Gold was on in the morning too. I wanted to be a dancer so badly!

We used to watch Solid Gold too! I think my dad just really missed the 70's. He used to be the guy dressed with his chest hair all out and bell bottoms. I think he attempted an Afro too but it didn't work too well.

I remeber as a kid there was like an 18 and 20 year age difference between me and my siblings. so all our ornaments where from when they where kids and had picked them out and made them. no one ever did that with me so i always felt left out.

also just wanted to spam and say when i woke up and got dressed today dh looked at me and goes "you're getting bigger, and its all my fault". then he grinned a me like a kid.

I have a OB appt today and these babies have made me so nervous (for no reason) so it should be relaxing to get a Dr. telling me everything is good, even though I have been finding them on the doppler without a problem.  I think I will be getting an U/S from here on out to check my cervix and babies position (even though I am 95% sure I want a CS) and also starting ffn testing.

  • Oh Wednesday...Sleepy as usually and stuck at work. My wrist is starting to hurt. I had pretty bad carpal tunnel with DS and was hoping to avoid it this time. But of course it's starting earlier this time.

The Dodgers lost last night and I am pretty bummed about it. Damn Cardinals! (Sorry if anyone is a fan). At least there is football.

GTKY: As a kid I can't remember too many traditions. Christmas day for a Jew is pretty boring. We would always get Chinese food and go to a movie. The two things that are open on Christmas day.

DH grew up with Christmas and we have thought about doing our own family traditions. So far we have gotten DS an ornament each year for the tree. And we always decrorate the tree together and play Christmas music. We started this as a couple. The last couple of years we have tried to go too many places and see too many people. This year we decided we really need to have Christmas morning to ourselves and just our little family.

  • I mentioned in my ticker change last week that one of my maternal Great Aunts passed away last Thursday. She was the matriarch of our family after my Great Grandmother passed and like a second mother to my grandma when she was growing up in Maryland...I have to gather up the courage to call my grandma and ask about the funeral arrangements, I know she was pretty devastated about it last week. :-(

  • I have a routine appt today. Before the anatomy scan, and before I started feeling Roslin moving, the thought of going to the appts always made me nervous. Now I'm feeling pretty blah about the whole thing. I know she's okay, she kicked me in the crotch this morning. ;)

I never really thought about traditions before, but I definitely want to make a point of the entire family sitting down for dinner together every night. No eating in separate rooms, or in front of the computers (like DH and I do most of the time now). It's an easy way to stay connected.

  • Well, its 5:45am here in Reno, and I didn't sleep a wink last night. Now I am just sitting here in the airport at my gate waiting to board my flight to Phoenix. The TSA guy who scanned me got upset because I received a special placard for being pregnant, giving me extra time to get through the checkpoint. Today has already proved to be exhausting. Not looking forward to flying a prop plane into Palm Springs. So loud and such a bumpy ride.

You got a special placecard? I'm flying into Phoenix on Saturday, what airline are you flying?

I'm flying US Airways, but it was my airport who gave me the placard, not the airline. So I land in Phoenix and see that my flight is already boarding. I run all across the airport to reach my gate, only to find out that my flight hasn't even arrived yet! I HATE THIS AIRPORT!

  • My sciatica has really been bothering me the past couple days. I was really hoping it wouldn't get this bad so soon. :(

For traditions, my family would go camping for at least a week every summer. DH and I want to do that with our kids too. It was something I really looked forward to, and still do when we're able to join them.

On Christmas Eve is when we'd put the presents under the tree, starting with the youngest kid first. After you put your presents under the tree, you went to bed. Mom and dad were the last to put out presents, so none of us kids knew how many presents were there until the morning. For the younger kids, it was always this huge surprise seeing all the presents together! Good memories. :)

  • I have a question:

My parents divorced when I was two. So I've ALWAYS done separate birthday parties, one for my moms family and one for my dads.

Well DH has 2 nephews and a niece, and their mom always get all my inlaws together (7 of us) and their other grandparents together for one birthday party at her house. And then of course the families end up segregated because they don't really know each other that well and ultimately the kids end up playing with their "favorite gift", which always ends up being from my in-laws because they are better off than his family is.

When this little lady is born, I want to continue doing "my family" separate from "his family". Not because I don't like his family or because I like mine better. Simply because I don't want any one side to feel like they maybe didn't do enough?

Am I crazy? Is there anyone else who does birthdays like I do?

  • I am working from a client's office today and I love these days!  I get to interact with my client and their employees and it is usually much better than being in the office.

I also got my sewing/embroidery machine back from the shop yesterday.  After being really mad at the last guy whom I paid to fix it and he didn't, I am just really excited to have it back and know it works!  Time to get started on baby stuff!  I put together a slew of embroidery designs together last night to start working on burp rags and such.  Really excited!

GTKY:  We regularly had dinner all together at the table.  Even when we got older.  No books (that was my fault), no phone calls, no TV, no distractions.  I really want to continue that with my children.
Also at Christmas time there is a park in the city that does an ENORMOUS lights display as well as a 2 mile fun run/walk that is family oriented.  You pay to do the run then get food and such after and free admission into the park for the lights.  Oh and did I mention the tshirts where the print glows in the dark?  DH and I have done this run/lights every year since we've been dating.  Last Christmas our 4 year old nephew wanted to do it with us too and he had a blast.  I want to do this every year with our children as well.

    2. The philadelphia airport is always one of my least favorite airports because of their SUPER SLOW security lines. Every time I am there I spend at least an hour in line. At the ATL airport, which has much more volume, I have never spent more than 20 min and it is usually under 10.

    3. No one will know my name :P. And, while I am looking for a girl name, a classic 70s - 80s name is not what I am in the market for.

Well this past week I have had NO blankets, fan on high and wake up super uncomfortable. Anyone else dealing with this? Preg related? Kind of random.

GTKY: We are trying to fuse Thanksgiving traditions.  Ever since DH and I got together we have hosted Thanksgiving in our house.  Our day starts with hot chocolate and bunuelos (DH's family traditions) and watching the parade in a brand new pair of PJs (my family).  Once the parade is over we start cooking dinner and watching football.  Dinner happens around 3, we take a giant nap, and then go black Friday shopping.  We have done this for the past 6 years and it has been great.

  • I've got after school rugby in a couple of hours!  I'm looking forward to it, but I may have to have the teachers running a bit more of the skills and drills this year, especially after some weird pulling in the lower abdominal region during the gym last night.  This will be my third year doing it, so I'm pretty stoked even though I've got to head to a new school for it this year.

GTKY: My brother and I always got to choose a movie to go to right near our birthdays and we always hit Disney movies when they came out in theatres.  I was a strange child and selected Star Trek VI as my birthday movie in '91 because we were going to see Beauty and the Beast anyway.  Oh crazy 8-year old me.

Also, for Christmas we're probably going to combine things a bit.  Presents didn't go out until after kids were asleep (I still won't put the ones I've bought out until I know DH won't see me doing it.), kids get an ornament every year (I got all of mine when I finally moved out so that I had a 'starter set'), stockings get opened before breakfast and then the whole of the presents afterwards.  The way we did presents was fun and I'm going to keep it up with LO: the kids acted as 'elves' delivering the presents.  One of us would pick a present from under the tree and give it to whomever it was for, that person would then open it and we'd all gush over it, then the next present would be selected and delivered by the other kid.  Opening presents would take most of the morning.  We'll probably amend stockings to be pillowcases because that's what DH had growing up (FIL was from South Africa).

We also did St. Nicholas Day on 6 December with the filling of the shoes.  And advent calendars.
