Had a prenatal appointment this morning and saw my doctor for a grand total of three minutes. I was in and out in under 30minutes, which is the fastest prenatal I have had so far this pregnancy. I feel a little put out that my doctor didn't spend more time with me, but she check fetal HB (147!), and measured me, and I'm good to go. I know this isn't a bad thing, just felt weird.
GTKY: Christmas pickle. Most of my mom's family (mostly her father's side) is from Germany, and many Germans have this weird tradition of hiding a little glass pickle in the Christmas tree, so on Christmas morning, all the children had to search for the pickle, and whoever found it was declared the most observant child for the year and got a little extra gift. I think I want to carry this tradition on, only because I found the pickle almost every year (I lost one year - I blame getting stabbed in the eye by a bough..) and my brothers and I were super competitive with it. My husband is also about 95% German, so it's appropriate, and I just think it's funny to talk to people about hiding a pickle in our tree :-)
My prenatal visits are often short. I go pee, they take my vitals, then the doc comes in. It feels forced to have them standing there trying to find things to talk about or ask me 10 different times if I have any questions or concerns.
The appt is usually measure stomach, listen to heart rate, talk about last appointment test results... the rest is just fluff. As a FTM I didnt think it was abnormal to be in and out so quick.

Hey Ladies! I've been MIA for a few weeks because I caught DH snooping on my account. It was like he was reading my diary, so I just stopped posting for a while. We're good now and I don't think he found TB too interesting anyways, but I just didn't feel like posting for a while. In other news, I have not been sleeping at all at night and am having constant cramping. So happy this is my last pregnancy! I cannot believe the difference in how my body handled this 5 years ago when I was pregnant for the first time.
That happened to me once, it just felt very awkward like a privacy breech. Now he asks my whats going on in the land of TB on days he is bored at work, because he found the drama post very entertaining. He is talking about starting his own account and joining the dads board though.
My parents divorced when I was two. So I've ALWAYS done separate birthday parties, one for my moms family and one for my dads.
Well DH has 2 nephews and a niece, and their mom always get all my inlaws together (7 of us) and their other grandparents together for one birthday party at her house. And then of course the families end up segregated because they don't really know each other that well and ultimately the kids end up playing with their "favorite gift", which always ends up being from my in-laws because they are better off than his family is.
When this little lady is born, I want to continue doing "my family" separate from "his family". Not because I don't like his family or because I like mine better. Simply because I don't want any one side to feel like they maybe didn't do enough?
Am I crazy? Is there anyone else who does birthdays like I do?
nothing wrong.with this. we go to my dafs house christmas eve and my husbands family christmas afternoon then walk down the street to his grandparents house. if you wanr ut separate keep it separate but i would do christmas at ones and day a anothers or make eve all about yours and his ffamily at two differenttimes then day at your house with your lo.

@MaddScientist I was so that little kid going around telling all the others that Santa wasnt real.
I am the youngest but 6 yrs in my family and my brother and sister sat me down when I was still very young and told me Santa wasn't real but I had to keep pretending I believed in him so our presents wouldn't suck. Lol.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.
Fred Rogers
As predicted, 50+ people got laid off today. So thankful for my job right now.
How horrible. I'm glad you were not cut. It must be so stressful to go through something like that.
My GTKY: My mom was always obsessed with holidays growing up. It made holidays a really big deal. However, as we kids got older, it stopped being a fun thing and turned into an ordeal. If things didn't go exactly as planned, and if the holiday was not "special" enough, my mom would get really depressed and end up in tears. As soon as the last present was opened, she would always say "That's it, Christmas is over for another year" and get horribly depressed. I no longer enjoy spending holidays with them. My H's family, on the other hand, have very few (maybe none) official traditions, which is also a little strange to me. I hope to find a middle ground- start traditions, but not go overboard. Holidays shouldn't be the only highlight of your life and they shouldn't be make-or-break events. On the other hand, they shouldn't go by unnoticed, either.
Third, we were raised -ish and didn't celebrate anything around the holidays (there is the Giftmas Jar- which is a large jar of money collected throughout the year by everyone in the family and given to a stranger working during the holidays - it has been a busser at the Chinese restaurant multiple years running). BUT my father took us to the library every Friday. I would love to continue that tradition and for my girl to be as fond of stories as I am!
That is the SWEETEST THING. I love it. What a great way to make someone's holiday AND to make kids understand giving as the spirit of the holiday!
Another thing I forgot.
When I was little, "Santa" only gave me 2 or 3 gifts. The rest were from my parents and labeled as such. I love that because...
1. It lets parents wrap a bunch of presents and put them under the tree early
2. It makes kids appreciate mom and dad and the work they put in - Santa doesn't get all the glory
My parents always gave me WAY better stuff than SANTA. It made me very grateful for all they'd done every year.
Exactly what my mother would say every year. (except we didnt have a tree, the gifts just went around the fireplace). But my sister, mom and I would have gift wrapping contests. Mom would pre-box everything with a small label on the bottom for who it was for and who it was from. We had the best time trying to guess the gifts based on size/shape/sound. Then we would try to decorate it the best, and dad and my brother would judge them. As a teenager I had a gift wrapping business. Then I went to work at Macys for a while during holiday season. To this day, I still have families that call me at Christmas to help wrap gifts.

@lizzybean@musicgirl524@Maple403 It's rough. It's been happening for over a year now. I work for a large company and with the economy getting better, the need for people in forclosure is less. It is what it is. I feel like I scrap by everytime.
Awww! One of my male coworkers (with a 2 and a 4 year old) just dropped off a bag of baby stuff for me! It's got blankets, bibs, hats, a variety! DH and I have absolutely nothing for the baby yet, so this is the first real, tangible gift we have received. I can't wait to go home and wash them and go through everything!
Edit- the gift was hand-me-downs, but I'm still super excited. My coworker was anxious I'd be offended to get hand me downs, but I made it clear that we'd LOVE to have anything people want to give us. Give me all your old baby clothing.
OMG y'all, I might kill someone. A female coworker (with whom I've never spoken to before) just asked me when I was due. I told her February and she responded, "you're already so big. It must be twins."
I. Will. Fuck. You. Up.
Seriously thinking of ways to murder her. My favorite so far: put her into a wood chipper (still alive) and then toss her remains into a turtle pond.
Can't wait to meet our darling daughter, Abigail Elizabeth

WTF is wrong with her?!? Jesus Christ people have no brains.
I have a really weird back pain, just below my shoulder blade on the right side... its very isolated, but it bothers me mostly at night when trying to sleep, so usually I just turn over or shove an extra pillow back there. But for some reason today while sitting at work, its really flaring up on me. I cant explain why it hurts, but sitting upright is not helping. Ugh

What a B----!!!!! What'd you say/do?! Been watching Fargo lately? Death by woodchipper sounds perfect.

1) what an awful person. I hope she gains ten lbs and people constantly ask her if she's pregnant.
2) I prefer the starved pigs method of disposal or a trip into a swamp.

My parents ended up teaching us how Santa Claus was a real man in history and now we remember him during Christmas because he would teach people the meaning of Christmas. We give gifts to each other just like the Wise men did, and like St. Nicholas would give to the peasants. So we never went around telling other kids he wasn't real, but my brother did tell a cousin Santa was dead because he lived a long time ago. Lol. I don't know if that was any better!
I'm stuck in the waiting room at my obgyn. The doctor I'm seeing today is currently doing a c section later than was scheduled. They said I could reschedule if I didn't want to wait, but what's the point. I didn't have anything else planned for the day. I-)

I get that occasionally to. I figured out it is trapped gas. Wonder if you have the same thing.
First, good luck and/or congratulations to everyone for their anatomy scans today!
Second, I hate home shopping in Austin. We show up with money in hand and there is some asshole on the phone that scoops it up 5 minutes before. I had my heart set on this one place with a study in the master that would have been ideal for lil ChickenHawke, no dice. TAKE MY MONEY!

I hear ya, its rough. Where in town are you looking? South? You could always move north to the "burbs" of Georgetown. :P

Trapped gas in my back??? Lord help me. I never knew such things were possible. I guess we should expect anything with babies huh? Although if it were in my rib cage the feeling would make me think of gas.

That trapped gas thing is no joke. I thought that was made up stuff (trapped gas is hurting my shoulder/upper back??) CRAY CRAY... Then I had my csection and it was brutal! Try a heating pad! That's what the nurses gave me.
Congrats on the good A/S and good luck to those who still have them today!
I've been so busy with life and work that I haven't been able to bump as much.
GTKY - Christmas! Every Christmas Eve we spend the night at my mom's. We watch The Grinch and open one present. (funny how it always happens to be pajamas) Mom finally admitted to us when we were older, that she liked getting us pajamas so our Christmas morning pictures looked decent. LOL She doesn't put the presents out until after we are all asleep. When we were young we used to do the cookie and milk on the fireplace thing. Which I'd love to continue to do all of this when our baby girl is here.
DH's family tradition is family night on Sunday nights. He and his parents used to sit in the living room together and listen to records of old rock. My DH credits a lot of that to his love of music and creating music. He definitely wants to continue this with our LO.
Back to work for me! Hope you all have a great day!
In and out of my a/s and an appointment in less than a half hour... Which means baby is healthy, measuring beautifully, cooperated and everything is lovely
Oh... And it's a boy!!! I may have to ressurect the circ. thread

Ya, I know it sounds crazy. It took me the longest time to figure that out. It hurt so bad and nothing I did even phased it. Eventually I would burp or it would just fade out a couple hours later. It has only happened to be about 3-4 times. It is always in about the middle of my back right between my shoulder blades. Hope you feel better soon!!!
Good idea with the heating pad! I will keep that in mind!
Going to attempt to do the Baby Shower invitations today...my mom is totally swamped down in NC and I volunteered to do the invites because I knew the guest list...time is ticking away and I want to get them in the mail by Saturday! Baby shower day is a month away!

Sigh. Darling Ella actually napped for the first time in a long time today. But woke up after an hour sooo upset and crying her little eyes out for a while in my arms. She woke up after being asleep for an hour last night doing the same thing. It was the first time in months I'd had to comfort her at night after falling asleep. I hope she isn't getting bad nightmares or something
