Quick question about car seats: for those with a singleton pregnancy, are you registering for one car seat or two? My husband thinks it will be a pain in the ass to haul one car seat from car to car. Is it ridiculous to register for two just because we're lazy, or is that normal?
1 with 2 bases.
If you are getting an infant car seat you will be hauling in and out of the house to the car each time so it won't change that much, but it will be nice to have a base to lock it into no matter which car you take.
For convertable seats we will end up with 2 I suspect for the reasons your DH has expressed
eta @kkleigh10 also lucies list has a great review on all types of seats and benefits of each.

I actually got to sleep in till 8:30a this morning. I went to get adjusted this morning and I am feeling great. I am thinking about using a dula this time around. When I was getting adjusted she gave me a card to a dula she knows. Has any moms used a dula before and what are your thoughts on it. I am about to get some torchys for lunch. I am so excited!!! Hope everyone has a great day
@michelle142 omg crab Rangoon.... I could put down a disgusting number of those fried pockets of deliciousness.
@kkleigh10 we are going for 2 bases for the infant seat since they just click in and out and will have 2 when we get to convertible seats.
Just got a text from the dude saying he registered for "the worlds toughest mudder" for next year. A 24 hour event. My lack of immediate response he took as me being "in awe of [his] sheer manliness" rather than a failure to see the text. He's stoked. I, admittedly, am selfishly worried that he's going to get lean and buff while training and begin that when I am 8 months pregnant with some serious hard work to do postpartum (especially since the women in my family never really go back to pre-preg states).
Isn't that so ridiculous? I hate having that reaction, because he's already hot and he's going to get hotter right when I feel so blah. I didn't want to feel pressured to get it together right after the baby gets here but I'm competitive by nature... I need to just be supportive and not let insecurity affect me when I've got a little one to worry about. And I have until next November to look cute again before the event in Vegas.. That's doable right?

1 seat, 2 bases. Not only is it easier to deal with, but it also lessens the chance of forgetting that you have the baby in the car because whoever has the baby has the seat.

Do they sale the bases separate? I have never thought of doing that.
I was discouraged I would be able to find ANYTHING that I half liked in a pretty purple without a cutesy print all over it. Then I remembered to check out RH--then I had too many choices!

@paleomama Yes, they do! And most BRU/BBB stores will let you try car seats in your car before you buy.

I just found out my FIL is coming to DC the weekend of my shower. No, he's not invited. Yes, he inserts himself into everything. No, apparently my MIL can't do anything on her own. Yes, my husband is now expected to keep him entertained (even though he's working that weekend).
It'd be okay if he were a mellow, nice guy and we liked him. But no, he's a controlling, mean-spirited narcissist who makes everything about him. So we're less than excited to have him here that weekend.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

DH is winning husband of the day today. He took me baby shopping, watched DS while I liked at stuff, took me to P.F. Chang ' s and got me half a dozen cookies from Great American Cookies all by noon. So I'm lazily reclined in my favorite chair while he enjoys some beer and video games. He's earned it today.

Roughly $30 for a base.
Damn that's not bad. The base for the Britax B Safe infant seat we have is $70.

HELP! My husband is becoming increasingly amused at my increasing frustration about not having a name for this baby boy yet. While I am also amused, and realize we have PLENTY of time, we can't agree on a name. Not fight club style or anything, but the names I love he says are 'meh' or 'blah' and he's still suggesting ridiculous names like Agamemnon. Just a random for Tuesday spam.
Does anyone else not understand the point of getting a baby bedding set? I figure I'm not going to use the comforter often, I don't plan to use bumpers, and the sheets will probably get changed/pooped on so much that it wont even matter. The only thing I think I'd really use is the skirt. I'm just confused.
there is no point, it is purely decorative.
Save yourself the time, get some quick zip sheets (best things ever), and a crib skirt (if you don't like the look of the bare crib bottom), and you are DONE!
@edunsmoor have you tried to find historically relevant names you like? That's how I got DH to take naming seriously.
@krendel I bought a whole bedding set for DS and I now have crib bumpers in a closet because I don't want to throw away something so expensive or give away something that can be so dangerous. At least the comforter is finally get use 2 years after the fact. For this one I'm just doing a cute couple of sheets from BRU or Target.

Ugh same here. We already have the car seat and one base, but we need a stroller and and extra base so its cheaper to just buy the travel system!
You can always install the seat with a seat belt too. Bases aren't required. Just make sure whoever puts it in knows how to do it properly.

While I think they are very pretty and cute, I think they are a waste of money. We just got sheets for DS. My mom's friend made a crib skirt for us. It was so simple and I could choose any fabric I wanted. When we finally swtich DS to a big boy bed, I plan on getting a bed set then.
The only reasons I would even consider using the quilt are A: Tummy time, or B: when the baby is old enough for a blanket in bed, if you still have the same theme.

^ This. I bought sheets and made a crib skirt. No need to spend money on the other stuff IMO, I can use that money somewhere else! I did make him a small quilt, but he mainly only used it in the car seat during winter.

@edunsmoor have you tried to find historically relevant names you like? That's how I got DH to take naming seriously.
Yep - we've considered presidents, explorers and consulted just about every census published. Our next step is to open up our ancestry.com accounts to see if anything speaks to us, but not necessarily from a lineage perspective, just something different. I know we'll find the perfect name, it will just take a while. MH is still in the let's name the kid Radio Station stage. *eye roll*
A couple days ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis. I am on the z-pac and got an inhaler. Well I woke up today and my middle back on one side is killing me. Like a sharp pain whenever I move or breathe. I burst into tears after a nasty coughing fit.
Anyway, is it safe to use a heating pad?! And do you think I need to tell my OB? I went to a different dr originally. HELP!
Met with a dietician today on my doctors referral. her advise--eat more. Really? THANKS LADY. Glad our taxes are going to such great healthcare programs. Also I need to gain at LEAST 15-20 lbs before 40 weeks. Ya, if I haven't gained a pound in the first 22 weeks I highly doubt I will hit 20. But thanks for making me feel shitty about my weight again. (I am so hormonal today!)

I'm so sorry. DH insisted that we keep Optimus on the list for the longest time. I finally got him interested in better names through video games and important people in history. We narrowed it down to 4 and the board finally got us down to Rosalyn (the female scientist name). GL snapping him out of the playful names.
@Alygohome dont worry... My doctor wants me to gain 40 by 37 weeks... I've only gained 13 and I'm at 20 weeks. 27 lbs to go... Yeah right.

I JUST got over bronchitis! I hope you feel better. And yes to the heating pad. I use one quite often due to my back pain.

I got the set for later when the girls were big enough for their toddler beds (the cribs convert into t beds and then full-size beds). I only used fitted sheets when they were itty bitty, not even the skirts. I think the set is for those who want to take pics of the nursery all finished, not for immediate use.
@Alygohome and @PeaceofKia I don't know why they worry about weight so early (I was apparently on the list to get a stem talking to if I hadn't gained by 20 weeks). I looked it up and, as of now, baby and all add less than 5 lbs so maybe we can focus on gaining more when bsby starts gaining more. I did put on close to ten lbs in a week so I feel like they should keep in mind that we gain differently as our bodies need.

I agree. My baby is healthy and on point for growth so I don't get why I need to gain weight just for the sake of gaining weight. I even told them I could eat junk food everyday and gain unhealthy weight and give baby no nutrients and no one would even bat an eye! I eat very healthy and yes, I do need to eat more but the nausea doesn't always allow me too and I am not going to put on weight just for the sake of it. I will eat healthy, eat when I am hungry, make healthy choices and let nature take its course. I guess it would be different if I was underweight but I am 5'4 153 lbs (I was this when I got pregnant too but this is 10 lbs heavier then I usually am because I got pregnant after two weeks of all inclusive food!) or it baby was measuring behind and not getting the nutrients!
@paleomama I think it was you that asked about Doulas. I have a friend that just got certified as one and I will probably have her work with me. They are great for helping you relax and work through labor. They are not just for home births, but it's nice if you want someone there with experience in the delivery room, that you are their only patient.
They are generally trained to help mom relax during labor and then also to help with breastfeeding and simple things like that after birth.
@Alygohome I am worried about what my MW is going to say at my appointment today. I lost a lot of weight at first, but last month started to gain again. I was still down 15lbs from pre-pregnancy though. I checked my weight Sunday and I lost 3 lbs this week. I'm a big girl to begin with, so I can stand to loose the weight, but I'm worried about what the MW is going to say about it. I worry as it is, but worrying just makes me feel less like eating.
