You know what was positive? That most of us told you to keep your baby safe by staying out of the tanning bed.
Sorry that you didn't get to hear what you wanted, but the only negative response you got was the chick that told you to put you and your baby in harms way by tanning.
I am getting a little sick of posts asking for my experiences and then getting mad when they don't hear what they want. Seriously? Does everyone in your life just tell you what you want to hear?
Wow 1st off I never said I was jumping in a bed as we speak, I am well aware of the dangers of both tanning and other forms of over heating you body and core temp. I was just asking for shared stories and experiences. It's a shame there's so much negativity on a place meant to share and promote positivity during pregnancy.
While I appreciate the concern on this matter it was not meant to elicit such whiplash. I appreciate the honesty as well but to clarify things, there's is nothing that I do without consulting my doctor 1st. By no means would I ever consider taking any information from any one on a forum and base my actions on that alone or anyone other then my doctor.
As far as the remarks regarding my beauty habits, what I may find a part of my routine others may consider unnecessary and that's completely fine. Vain or not, I'm comfortable with what I choose to do.
So if you are aware of the dangers of it, why ask for opinions on doing it?
And we all gave you opinions, you just didn't like them!
And as for support, we give support to those that need it, but you have posted all of twice asking about stuff concerning you, and I am sorry but you have to give support to get it back!
Not to mention, the only two questions you have asked have been about beauty practices. Seriously? How on earth would anyone here, who has spent time here, see you as anything other than vain? The only knowledge we have to speak of your character is about dying your hair and tanning. It's pretty clear where your priorities lie. Maybe they don't, maybe you're a really nice person with lots of great values, but what we see is a vain person who cares more about looking good than protecting their LO.

You KNOW the dangers of it but still thought it was a good idea to see if you should do it!? WTF new level of stupid has been reached!
I am pretty disgusted at all the responses, makes me wonder why anyone would ask any honest question on this site. Judgemental and down right mean. There are hazards everywhere, and i personally know there are far worse things than sunbathing. Its all in perspective. To the woman that asked this, if you are comfortable tanning once or twice a week i am sure your baby will be just fine.
WHAT?! If you are comfortable tanning once or twice a week you are *sure* her baby will be fine?? Being comfortable with doing something does not mean it is comfortable for baby.
Really OP you have posted one other discussion and got positive responses. Now that we aren't all about you getting skin cancer and boiling your baby we are judgmental, mean, and negative??
I'm ultra-pale and sunscreen is the only reason I am allowed outside during the day or night, especially right now because my skin seems so much more sensitive than before. I always considered a box full of UV rays to be some sort of torture device made to kill people like me so I'm not much help here. Ask your doctor but you already know what they'll say...

Also, you shouldn't be lying on your back while pregnant. Is there any other way to fit into those beds? I'm pretty sure one wouldn't even close over me at this point. Why not try a self tanning lotion or something? I dunno. I have no concept of beauty at this point and I thought the tanning craze died out in the 90s after everyone figure out that it causes cancer and wrinkles.
I was told explicitly to avoid hot tubs and saunas and anything else that can raise my body temp to over 102 degrees because it can hurt the developing baby, especially their spine and brain. I'm guessing a tanning bed could easily get that hot.

So glad we now know that it's okay because this first time poster told us so. Time to go smoke a joint and go tanning!

Victoria's Secret has a really good spray tan line. It's a little expensive, but I was in a wedding last winter and it worked good without making me look orange. Something to try if tan is what makes you feel a little better while your body is going through so many changes! Also, healthier! (:

But she personally knows there are far worse things, coley.
Does that mean I need to stop huffing spray paint?
Not even going to address the tanning bed issue since everything has been stated about that. Not sure where you are located but look into spray tanning. There are tons of great places that won't turn you orange. I've spray tanned a few times with a gal and her soliton is 100% natural. Lasts me about 7-10 days depending on how much you moisturize
In the packet I got from my OB, I got a list of things that are safe during pregnancy (the bump won't let me upload a picture of it currently). Interestingly, tanning beds is on there. It is actually recommended that spray/bottle tans to be avoided. It says:
"While pregnant, tanning beds are safe to use. However, there are certain skin changes and risks associated with tanning. Avoid bottle or spray tans while you are pregnant. These may be safer for your skin overall, but with the unknown risks of these chemicals on pregnancy, it is best to avoid this."
But again, this is just my OB. Make sure to check in with yours. Good luck.
It's not about the positive or negative comments that I receive, its about the tone and language in which some of you feel the need to respond in. I'm open towards criticism in both forms, just don't see why you women are so judgmental an rude.Frankly it's comical how quickly it was assumed I was going to tan, I distinctly said I have stopped bc I am pregnant. Any way have a great time and hope you all enjoy going on and on about this subject Glad to give you something to do

Have you not lurked on this board at all? Did you expect a different reaction? Calling people names isn't nice either. I'm glad we could be so "comical" for you while we assumed you were going to tan, after posting a question about tanning.

Again, you don't get to determine what people say, nor the 'tone' that is used in responding on a forum. Sad story, huh?
You can think it's rude that people are telling you that it's moronic to tan while pregnant. That's fine by all of us. I can post a pic of my FIL's ear that he had chopped all to hell from skin cancer. They then replaced the skin with parts of his chest. It's really lovely. He sure wishes he'd have paid closer attention as a kid. But, he didn't know better then. We all do now. AND, if you didn't even plan on doing it, why the hell ask the question? That seems rude to me. You wasted my time responding the first time and I'm offended. (Enter sarcasm font. That should help with my tone issue.)
While we're busy asking questions about things that we don't really plan on doing, ladies, do you think I should smoke the crack I just bought or wait? It will make ME feel so amazing about myself. Like, amazing. Oh the baby? Well, whatever. It's all about ME, ME, ME!

Totally safe to smoke it. Just make sure your OB doesn't do any drug testing.

How can you get a tone from reading text? You may have stopped but you also asked for other women's experiences while pregnant and tanning. You got their experiences.

Such a silly question. Don't usually put in my two cents....but really??? I'm more white than the freshly fallen snow....I thought our society was past looking like burnt rotisserie chickens. Just be natural, get out of the mirror and start getting exciting about your sweet baby who is 2 months away! Just sayin.
OP, I don't know what you expect as a response from pregnant ladies on the Internet about the safety of tanning while you are growing a child inside of you. I was rolling my eyes when I read the title of your thread, let alone your post. And in case you are wondering about the tanning spray (which actually is a good question) you should be aware that even certain suncreens contain harmful chemicals like oxybenzone which will go into your baby's blood stream. So it seems like you should probably research the ingredients in the spray before you use it too. The only safe way is to avoid all of this. I mean, if you are due in December, can't your so-called beauty routine wait for three more months? SMH

What I can't understand is it is fall and winter soon, why is looking tan such a priority? Get some bronzer with your makeup routine, the rest of your body is going to be hidden by pants and long sleeves. FFS.

But she wants to get her beauty regime back! Because that's a high priority when you are in third tri and have very little time left.
Take it from someone who has multiple miles removed annually due to high skin cancer risk due to stupidity in my teen years- it's NOT worth it. You have a child to think about, a child who needs it's mother to live a long and healthy life. It's not worth dying a painful cancer death just to have a tan
Sorry you are going through this but thank you for your sobering reality check. Hopefully OP listens.

I am crazy pale and use SPF 1000. I also don't get the appeal of tanning considering how dangerous/most fake tanners look wicked fake (ORANGE) and unnatural. So basically, I don't even get the OP's desire to consider a tanning bed.

PSA moment: Melanoma is a cancer that is so aggressive if left untreated that it can actually be passed onto your baby through the placenta. Extremely rare but important to realize because a lot of women have more sensitive skin during pregnancy. Be safe and cover up.
