South Park and Family Guy are both incredibly annoying to me.
I do like The Bachelor/ette. I know it's trash, but I can't help but be entertained by it.
This!
Bachelor/ette is my kind of trash TV! On the topic of reality TV...
MY UO: I LOVE Survivor. I feel like I'm the only person my age that watches it, but I've watched it since the first season came on the summer before I went to college. It's probably my favorite show!
@honeybeee3 I'm with you, the trashier the better! It's such a great escape from reality lol isn't that ironic?

I always thought the age-by-month thing was weird until I read about how development is so different between a 13 month old and a 19 month old. If the kid is over two, yes, use years, but knowing how two kids can both be one year old but at completely different decelopment stages made me realize why we use months to gauge ages of kids.

DH's grandmother is friends with the Probst family. She always says it her claim to fame haha. It's kinda cute. she get really excited about survivor every year.
@ICarriedAWatermelon "Maybe it's just me being paranoid/hyper aware, but there were so many "first day of preschool!!" pictures this year. And pics of their kids in front of a sign saying like "Ms. Smith's Preschool Class, Three Days a Week.""
I took a picture of DD1 in front of her pre-school sign (I didn't say how many days she was going) and I posted it to facebook. I didn't do it to brag. I did it because it's her first time going to school, going and hanging out with people she doesn't yet know, on her own. I was excited. I was a SAHM, but I think there's nothing wrong with daycare (well, maybe the cost - it does get pricey after all), but it just wasn't what we chose to do. I think working moms rock, and not everyone has the option of free childcare from family like I did (I worked part time until I got pregnant with DD2). More power to the working moms!
I put up a pic of #1 on his first day of preschool this year in front of his cubby, but it's definitely not a "rub it in your face" kind of thing, it's just a milestone kind of thing like I will take a picture of him when he gets his driver's license, goes to prom, etc. But, I am paranoid and won't post a picture of him in front of the school's sign. I don't want to advertise where he goes to school and exactly what days he can be found there.

I did this with my daughter's first day at her new preschool, not bragging though, just wanted to mark the milestone. She was in a daycare/preschool for the last two years but this one felt like a more official school for memory book type things. Plus she is so darn cute I couldn't resist!
Why do clothes have to be sooooo boy or sooooooo girl? I am having hell trying to find clothes that have no sex affiliation. I shopped for two hours this past weekend and found ONE outfit that was neutral and it was covered in Rubber Duckies. I hated it. I couldn't even find solid colored onsies unless they were white.
My MIL picks out everything she can for the baby she also did this with my son. Now don't get me wrong it's the thought that counts. But she's never even looked at the registry. She's told me my baby names I have picked are ugly, that I shouldn't breast feed ( "so you'll be the only one who can feed the baby? I don't think so") she isn't buying things to be nice per say. She's doing it to be in control, she also told me my 9 yo should pick the baby's name. I can imagine what he would pick. The answer... "No". (Sorry for venting lol). She picks out weird stuff and anything I like she is pretty much against, and gets the opposite. Very difficult to deal with.
Do we have the same mil? Gifts from her are always about control. She rips tags off so they can't be returned and gets offended if something is wrong (wrong size etc)

I hate it when ppl get things for you for the baby that you didn't register for. What a waste of time/money.
Even worse- with no receipt !
Holy entitlement!
I should've added the backstory here.... I totally sound like a brat. My comment refers to my mil who uses gifts as manipulation. I'd rather have nothing than manipulation. Sorry for anyone who read that and thought I was a brat. I'm not, I swear

^^Haha that's what I thought I remembered because my MiL is the same way. My MiL views the quantity of stuff she gives you as somehow portraying how much she "loves" you on that given day... And these "gifts" have often been piles of clothes from thrift stores thrown into garbage bags and I can't pull some of them out because of how matted together with mice droppings they are... Yeeeeaaah. I have no use for those "gifts."

I've had luck at second hand shops like Once Upon a Child.

I think birth is exciting and awesome and hardcore.... and definitely not gross or scary at all.
I think registries as an expectation are tacky-- they make sense as a norm for convenience if you have a large number of people who will be buying for you that will want to get a necessity for you rather than something you don't need. I think they are appropriate for efficiency... so that you don't get bombarded with a dozen questions about what you 'really need'. They can just look on your registry. I think there are many scenarios when registry use is abused or inappropriate-- such as if you are considerably well off and can easily afford all your infant necessities. Don't register, just let people bring whatever gift or trinket they want. And more extreme, I think it's beyond rude to be annoyed at people who don't buy off your registry.
No one said birth itself was gross but watching it for fun after the fact, is not my idea of fun or exciting. And my hospital actually won't even let you videotape births anymore.

I agree. I wasn't going to register (I'm not having a shower), but I asked my friends who have kids (who also didn't have showers) and they all strongly encouraged me to do so since this is my first. I have nothing, and they said its a great guide for people who don't know your style/what you like. I'll be thrilled if people buy off the registry but I'm also expecting people to gift us clothes, which would also thrill me, because like I said, we have nothing. Anything helps!
That said, I'm picky about clothes so if I really don't like something I'll probably exchange it for something that's more "our style."
I caved and am wearing maternity pants for the first time today-- I don't like them in the slightest. I don't see how they are comfortable.
SOOO comfortable. They're like yoga pants that look professional. You crazy, CMB
Meh, I thought we knew I was crazy, after all, it's in my name :P
I wear jeans to work every day and I just can't find maternity pants comfortable. It's that stupid band thingy. It's itchy and I don't like
----quote fail---- I went to Motherhood Maternity and purchased a pair of the Jessica Simpson maternity jeans. I love them! Not itchy at all, but someone else had complained this week about the long tags in maternity clothes and these jeans are not exempt. I'm uncomfortable now because I'm not used to being this big, but the pants are pretty decent! I also wear jeans to work almost everyday and these have been great!

I mostly only watch homebirth videos. Too many hospital birth vids I would yell at the doc "don't touch!! Stop doing that!" There was a breech homebirth vid in Texas where the midwife was constantly touching the vulva of the woman and maneuvering the baby as it emerged and I was like "WTF are you doing!? Stop stop stop stop!" So yeah I have a prob with some of the vids like a sports fan who yells at the TV, but free births and water births are my faves .
