  • I think I'm one of the rare ones on this board who uses a lot of Tide relative to others (at line 2 for a load of 20 flats, four or five covers, a pail liner, and a wet bag), but RLR and regular bleach soaks and Tide to line 3 with 8-10 diapers? Seriously?

Worst case scenario: only a few people join and the group slowly fizzles out
Best case scenario: Cloth diapering nirvana, all baby butts are cute, climate change is reversed and the world is saved
Likely scenario: Some drama, some fun, lots of laundry advice

I'm not afraid to get yelled at, I'm more afraid of the crazy people finding out my phone number and address.

I guess I assume that nothing I put on the internet is private. Anyone who lurks regularly here knows exactly who I am (whether or not they ever post), so FB actually seems more secure. But I also got over that idea of "privacy" when I started a business in a small town. I don't put my home address or phone number on FB, but my business is very easy to track down. And yes, crazy people do crazy things, but most people aren't crazy and crazy people can be anywhere.

Agreed. There is zero privacy. You just hope your not the lucky winner to receive some crazy. But it still makes me nervous.
  • Oh. my. gosh. I saw that this thread blew up and I had 145 new and what do I find? ..... We're actually still talking about diapers, mostly. Lame.

  • And I've been lurking since late 2012 under a different SN. I made a whole new account last fall, since I didn't know how to change SNs.

  • Well its hard to get off topic when lovely posts keep appearing on FL&CDS.

I live in a fairly populated area.  There are a lot of crazy people.  (I actually avoid the news sometimes because I live close to a lot of the cities they mention).

But yes, I assume that if someone wants to track me down, they could.  Even on here.

  • Bahaha some girl RLR her tots bots and they were still leaving so she wrote the company.

And of course they have to look into it as she may have voided the warranty.

Of FL&CDS messing up someone's dipes. I guess they will just suggest MOAR detergent. Poor girl with ruined diapers.

And ps. I bleach my washer once a month. No scrubbing or hard effort or anything.
  • There are actually a lot of people who do the soaks and the get leaks. They say you should just wash them 3-4 times in lots of tide to make it stop. I'm not kidding.

  • I seen that to @Rrrrrachel‌. Just to wash a few times and that will solve the problem.

Wouldn't it make sense to strip and begin a new wash routine and if it works stick to it. If not begin again? Sheesh.

I had to count how many r's out loud when tagging you.
  • Yeah you're handling that well. I think the detergent residue is a myth thing I what irritates me the most because it just defies common sense. That and the Charlie's hate. A lot of the other advice is fine.

  • @Mapleme‌ & @Rrrrrachel‌ are in the zone over there. Come back!
  • Jennifer labit posted a great thing about detergent build up, too. Including how diapers washed in ride get up to 2% heavier over time.

  • Maple some of the sources for the claims in that article are baby center. Which is where the cloth diaper compendium got started.

  • Apparently without outside influence detergents always rinse clean. But they can be trapped by minerals. But since were not all washing in perfect water doesn't that mean for all practical purposes detergent build up IS a thing?
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I am so confused. Build up is build up. She's talking the same thing for both detergent and mineral but is saying detergent doesn't exist.

    Interesting read.

I wonder how many of them would have bubbles if they ran their machines without clothes.

  • ps. new avatar uploaded.
  • Free and clear detergents have microbiostats which is an additional thing left behind. So if people are choosing those to avoid residue it seems like that's based on faulty information.

    Oh snap.
  • On a side note.  I've inherited clothes from two households that use way too much laundry detergent/fabric softener.

How do I get the over perfumed smell out?

They would have bubbles but only because sometimes water suds up by itself. Or detergent trapped by minerals is suddenly being released. Or some other answer that hears hoof beats and thinks zebras.

  • you guys have way more patience than me.

Why dont i extra rinse my underwear? Because its one thin layer, and I'm not expecting it to absorb anything, ever.

Ummm, some of us wash our underwear with our cloth diapers.......
