Re: Longest Thread EVER! (aka Random Thoughts Thread )

  • Great, the kids are both sick at the same time and so am I. DD1 has been up every 30min screaming and crying out. She sounds like crap, and keeps complaining of pain. It's going to be a long long night.

Can someone direct me to a website that gives a decent overview of stepped soothing?  I wasn't going to do anything like that at least until 6 months, but DH had bedtime on his own tonight and had to do something, since LO was so worked up.  He did pretty good, but I want something to direct him to in the future.
I don't know any websites but personally I think do intervals that suit you, you just need to increase the time you stay out before soothing again. Also most sites say not to pick up baby, but we did to help settle a bit. Once calmed I would put her straight back down and step out - even if she started crying again.

    the intervals we did was
Night one: 3 min, 5 min, 5 min, 8 min (would have then been 10 but didnt need it)
Night two: 5 min, 8 min, (would then have been 10 min, 10 min, 12 mins, didnt need any further after this)
    Night Three: repeat night two
    Night four: 8 min, 10 min, 12 min, 15 min, 20 min

Try for a maximum of 1hr from starting, if not asleep in an hour, use what ever other method you currently use and try again. The only other thing I would say is that DD never got that worked up. She was crying but not purple crying. If she ever got to that point I would have found another method or given up for the night, but that's entirely over to you. I also believe if DH tried everything sometimes for sanity sake you need to put them down and walk away.

    Good luck.
    Thanks!

So if your child is off the scale for height...do you just say 100th percentile or call him an Avatar? Ahahaha

    Depends: is he blue?

No, no, no, that is a Na'vi. This is an avatar. (Yeah, I like cartoons; what of it?!)

I think light brown, but I can totally see dirty blonde, too.  But I've had people come up and be all "Oh, what lovely red hair!"  And I get really confused.

Aiden has a very similar hair color to your LO! Depending on the lighting, I think dirty blonde, light brown or strawberry blonde...

Over on parenting MBK is doing an AWESOME story time about the getting together of the 1D guys, Harry and Louis. I don't even really like 1D but her story telling skills - which involve many gifs - are amazing. I highly recommend it if you're bored.
I told her a few weeks ago she is my ultimate bump crush. She is hilarious and awesome in every way... I know nothing about 1D but I read that whole thing. Parenting is just the right amount of hot mess that I'm into sometimes...
My UO, MBK drives me mad. I think she is a bit of a bully who appears to lord it over parenting. Dare not disagree with her.
This is an opinion based onthings I have seen and personal experience.

I can't believe I read all of that and I don't even know who they're talking about! I've lurked over a couple of times and they're all an amazingly hot fucking mess and I love it. I may become more of a dirty lurker but I know if I ever piped up they all be like YOU DONT EVEN GO HERE and I'd feel hella wicked sads.

Good, cause if he ended up with red hair plus those blue eyes he already has, I'd be answering even more questions about the mailman from random strangers.  *eyeroll*

  • Thank you lord the trash man is early today. Now I can continue the overhaul of DHs garage in the oppressive heat.
  • Very cheap for a Montessori school, and ours required being potty learned.
  • You can ship beer? I didn't know this was legal. What about wine?

My son's hair looks exactly like your DS.  I've been told it has hints of red in it.  I can see it too so I'm saying his hair is strawberry blonde (my DS).

  • I hate packing. We are moving Monday and there is still so much to do. However I am snuggling with DD while DH is packing. I tried for an hour and she screamed her head off and turned purple. Hoping she will take a nap soon so I can finish my closet.
I don't feel guilty in the slightest since I do all the cooking and cleaning and laundry and such.
  • Were those weekly rates for that Montessori school in Texas?
  • The exchange looks real fun, but I am having a hard time keeping up around here, I know if I joined in my person would be waiting for their stuff for forever and a day. I am le pooper of parties.
  • I thought daycare here was expensive! If LO had went to daycare we would have paid $175 a week, which includes a $25 discount because of the company I work for. I don't know how people afford it! We went with an in home sitter and pay $25 a day.

I wish DC was $175/week where I live (Minneapolis/St Paul); we pay $1400/month which is average in my area :-(

The Montessori I had at the top of my list is already full for next April. Fuck! Made an appointment for Monday for a walk-through of our next choice, another Montessori. Hope we like it!

I haven't needed to look into day cares so I'm not quite sure what a Montessori school is and why some people prefer it. Can someone explain?
We do Montessori... For infants there isn't a difference really; but as they get older at my DC they start introducing Montessori stuff. A big thing is independence and beleiving children learn at their own pace; some daycare seem to push developmental milestones but Montessori doesn't. Part of the independence is having the kids wash their own dishes :-) hope I explained this accurately; there is more but these are my takeaways!

@ambarnett1‌ I just saw your fffc my pedi doesn't want me to start purees because the alimentum is so bad that if she has yummy foods she won't eat the formula. I'm torn bc I really feel like some puréed vegetables would really start to Be helpful to her. She's been on rice cereal since she was 3 weeks :( . So my question is; how is it going? Is your LO still eating the formula?

My DS is on alimentum too. He just started sweet potatoes this week and it's going good. He's been drinking more formula since we started and hasn't rejected the bottle. He's been getting rice cereal in his bottles as well. I think since his reflux is getting better, it doesn't burn as much to eat. You can try vegetables and just see how it goes if you think she is ready.

  • We are pampers users. The up & ups we had a terrible time with, but several moms here prefer them. All about what keeps your kid's poo in line, I guess.
  • We used the pampers for DS at night for a while before switching to the Up & Up brand. I had no issues with it. If you are really worried you could just buy a small pack and see how you like them. That way if it doesn't work for your baby you haven't spent a fortune. I know that the kids resale store around here (like Once Upon a Child) will take half used bags of diapers, so that would be somewhere to get rid of them if you don't like them.

  • We've had only a couple blowouts with the up and up but otherwise no issues. They are also a little too big for her biut the smaller size was too small. For overnight we use pampers.

Thanks, @ambarnett1‌ ! Are you just baking the sweet potatoes yourself or buying them already puréed? Do you think that's what is helping your LOs reflux or do you think it was already starting to get better prior? Sorry for all the questions. I just hate all the meds and my pedi says not to start solids till 6 months, but I just feel like she's ready for some thing. She had a little plum purée with water yesterday to help with poops and it seemed to work awesome, but she was indifferent on it.

I buy the organic beechnut purees (gasp, sorry I'm not very crunchy lol). I think the solids facilitated his reflux improving. I hate the meds too! I say try a puree whether it be homemade or not and see how she does. If it works for her then great, if not then wait.

Also, we use huggies, pampers, and up&up interchangeably and have never had leaks or blow outs. Buy a small package and see how you like them.

  • So I am super bummed right now. I just bought a cute new shirt a few days ago, which my sweet baby threw up on. So I put shout spray on it and washed it. Apparently shout spray will eat away sparkles on clothes. So now my cute new shirt has a huge spot that is sparkle-free while the rest of the shirt isn't.   :((

  • My brother bought OG one of those pottery barn anywhere chairs (ah to be single with no responsibilities again!) and it came today!! Photo shoot as soon as she gets up from her nap!
  • I want to ask a question but don't want to be thought of as a creepy weirdo after I ask it. AH!

Does anyone else think their baby's private parts are cute? My husband told me that I'm weird for thinking so, and he said, "Maybe it's just weird if I think they're cute..." But I told him even if we had a boy that I would still think they're cute. Not like the really personal parts, just the top chubby adorable part. Is this normal? :-/

  • When we start purées I will buy them. I didn't have time to make my own for dd and I definitely don't have time with kid #2. :-) I did love making her sliced apples cooked in apple juice and cinnamon as a first finger food, and I will do that again with the little dude.
