Fuck and I thought I was flamed for my 3yo having his own (hand-me down) tablet. Dear mother of Trojan gods what happened here today?
You have a tablet old enough to consider it a handmedown and gave it to your 3 year old?

Eff that noise, I'd be selling that shit on craigslist.
  • This should come as no surprise coming from the rice cereal feeding, tummy sleeping, bed sharing mom with no pets: DD has her own iPad with Hulu. She watches Word World. And I won't bother justifying it because it works for my family.

I'm just not crunchy, y'all. Not even a little.

You dd does not need an iPad end of!

huh.  is anyone else here from SE ohio?  is it like that (meaning judging a wife's worth based on the cleanliness of her house) all over your general region, or do you live in a little stepford-y microcosm within your town?

i do so hope someone else from ohio chimes in.
I'm from NORTHeast ohio and while I like a clean house, no one (family, friends, Jehovah's Witness, whoever!)would ever say anything about the state of my house.

If it was a complete disaster I could see family asking politely if we "need any help?" but no judgement - especially on just me as the wife/mother.

Edit to add Jehovah's witnesses don't actually come inside my house.

I went to college in SE Ohio, and my DHs family lived there for years. Most of it is very rural with some small towns and college towns spread throughout. I've never heard of anyone being judged by the cleanliness of their homes, but all of the homes I've been to there have been of average size, cleanliness, and decor (beige everything and Longaberger baskets)
  • DD plays with my iPad (she's 2) she plays puzzles does matching games & flash cards. I love it. She's learned so much and it's fun for her.

My A14 babe would love to chew on my iPad that's about the extent he gets to it. I wish we had more then one so I could share less and bump more ;)
  • In their bottle? I had many people tell me to give LO cereal at just a few weeks old and a FB friend put pictures of her 3 weeks old "gobbling his cereal" from a spoon! I wonder if it is sort of a cultural thing here? I don't know if cultural is the right term but I am pretty deep in the south and I think alot of people are getting this advice from old school grandmas and mothers. If I didn't do research or participate in the bump and had just listened to friends and family I would think it was normal because I hear it so often.

I think it is cultural and generational. I'm in the Deep South too andplusalso my mil has suggested the same thing. For the life of me I have no idea how cereal could fit through a nipple.

  • I also live in north east Ohio and while there are areas of the city where you might find judgmental women, I will never live in an area like that. For example, a friend of mine was looking for homes in a Cleveland suburb and people wanted to know if it was north or south of Detroit Road. She decided she couldn't live in a place where your worth was determined by your proximity to Lake Erie and bought a home in a different suburb.

I grew up in Indiana, so hi fellow Hoosiers! :-h

My FFFC: Sometimes I daydream about "accidentally" running over my husband's iPad with my car.

  • DH family lives in Alabama and they all thought I was crazy for not giving rice cereal in the bottle. SIL said she started right away at bedtime because she couldn't handle not sleeping 8-10 hours at night. And apparently you poke the bottle nipple with a pin to make the holes bigger for it. At least that's how they do it.
DH's family is not allowed to be left alone with our kids. Whatever MIL says about raising kids everyone else takes as gospel.

I'm an AL resident. This sounds so much like my DH's family. You sure we're not related? ;)

Another southerner, (LA) my grandma said she started both of her children on rice cereal in their bottles at 2 weeks. I pointed out they each are overweight, have diabetes, and had massive heart attacks before the age of 50. She didn't have much to say after that.

I missed the book club thing. I think I was still lurking back then.
Everytime I think I'm gonna try to read something good, my sleep deprived brain shuts down and it starts to look Chinese.

The book club thing made me so sad. It was an awesome idea and like 20+ people said they'd participate, but only like five (if that) ever did. :(

Central Ohio here, and nobody gives a dang. I have a friend that has a four year old, two year old and six month old, and the last time she really cleaned, the four and two year old asked who was coming to visit. She yells at me for cleaning when they come over!

DH is from eastern Ohio, and if they judge based on cleanliness then my MIL is a completely worthless wife (and I say this nicely). Both houses I've seen her live in are cluttered, messy disasters. Totally where my husband gets it from.

  • I haven't read a full book since 2006.
  • I read several sleep training books cover to cover when kiddo was T's age. I've read a few books as part of my small group Bible study over the past 5 years. Other than that, I think I've only voluntarily read one actual book (Freakonomics) since college 10 years ago.

Same. Luckily that book is on my reading list for clad this semester. Score!

And no, @Bluebird2318‌. Like, over 100 people said they'd participate according to my first poll. And, like, 6 did. :((

@MamaFantastic‌ At least your one book was a good book. I totally would have judged you if it was, say, 50 shades or something. :D

  • I have been reading a few books since LO was born, but I have a train ride to and from work. I also listen to books at work so if I count that I've "read" 14 books since he was born.
