    (Again.. Calling myself that.)

    Wow that is so cute.

I just find it ridiculous you're getting offended for comparing myself to something offensive. Either way, I have no fucks to give today, obviously.

By your logic I could totally compare myself to the N word but it's totally not offensive.

Does saying technology nazi and saying the N word compare? Pretty sure I would be ripped to shreds by more than just you and Lala if I said that.

I don't either. The original post said daily. I don't necessarily think that it's harmful for her just totally not necessary.

Yes it does that's my point.
  • It's in poor taste because you're comparing someone who is particular about grammar or technology or whatever with someone who tortured & killed Jews. Using it to define someone who is particular about X minimizes what they actually did. Not wanting my infant to play with a tablet is in no way comparable to an actual WWII nazi.

But she was talking about herself so it's totes cool. (Using my sarcastic font)

  • Comparing yourself with someone who tortured and killed Jews is not the same thing as comparing yourself to a race of people who endured several decades of torture and slavery. By that logic she would have said something like, "technology Jew"

  • There is a short you tube video of grover doing a parody of the old spice commercials called Smell like a monster. DD loved it so I recently tried showing it to LO. She loves it too. I feel no shame in using it to distract her from a meltdown when she is fussy. I also find the startled look on her face (followed by a smile) when he says hello totally adorable.

  • DS hates the car with a deep passion making driving anywhere longer than 10 minutes away hell. I sit in the back with my bag of toys, try to get him to nap, when everything else fails I whip out youtube videos of sesame street so he doesn't turn purple from screaming for the rest of the ride.

Ds 1 is nearly 8 ds2 is 4 months, does ds1 have the iPad during family gatherings/meals out/ shopping? Hell yes! He's adhd and asd if he isn't stimulated he would be Rolling around the floors! He's also gone up 3 reading years at school by using it (no extra reading and writing than we usually do). Would I give ds2 the iPad for a baby app/game? Hell yes if it means I can quickly pee or prepare lunch it's not going to hurt!

    Edit, I haven't given ds2 the iPad

Have you tried Baby Got Colic? YouTube it! Not for the video (the images are actually really creepy), but the rhythmic white noise is MAGIC. We use regular white noise all the time but I discovered this for total overtired meltdowns when nothing else will work and it's amazing!

Instead of the jabs, why don't you elaborate on how you can compare nazi and the n word? That would be a huge FFFC.

  • I am seriously in disbelief that we have come to the place that the only way people think they can get stuff done or entertain a baby is with an iPad. I am not anti technology at all in fact my older kids use them more than most kids and not for educational things. I am not even really anti baby using them. But this whole thought that it's the only way to entertain them at the doctors office or go to the bathroom for a FOUR month old is mind blowing. Maybe because we didn't have them when my other two were this young but it just not that hard to parent an infant without a freaking tablet.

What's with the extremist thinking this morning? You're filling in a lot of blanks, nobody said the only way to get stuff done or entertain their baby was with an IPad. Or that anyone is "parenting" with a tablet. I just figured this out a week ago and it helped the other day when nothing else would when I had to help my nine-year-old with something. It made her laugh hysterically, I was able to focus my attention briefly on my other child (which I have rarely been able to do in four months) and we were all able to quickly move on to the next task without screaming. Which hardly ever happens after 4pm. No harm done. You may not agree with my method there on that particular Tuesday afternoon but that hardly makes it mind blowing or ridiculous.

  • Yep a DD honestly it's not worth it. We are not going to see eye to eye on this and going in circles is just wasting time.

I was more responding to the " if I need to pee or fix a meal I use the iPad" like neither of these could be done without a tablet for a four month old. I seriously never thought I would see the day that tablets became infant toys. I am just blown away. And actually we do have research that screen time is not good for kids under two pretty sure a 4 month old qualifies for that.
  • You make a very good point. We don't have ANY infant toys. Or books or jumperoos or anything like that. Just iPads and tooth picks. I'll have to work on that.

great then with all your infant toys you shouldn't need a tablet for an infant.

Also I'm judging anyone with an a14 baby who purposely gives their kid a tablet or phone to play on. I see it the same way as giving your kid McDonald's. They will probably turn out fine but why would you when there are 100 better options?

but how would I get through DS soccer practice or making dinner without give DS2 a McDonalds fry to naw on? Don't judge me.

Yes it does that's my point.
This made me laugh. Nazi and the "N word" do not compare. Considering I can't even say one of those words... It's worse.

I was not comparing the words as much as the attitude that if you call yourself a name it automatically is not offensive because you called yourself that and not anyone else.
  • J&NL said:

this was the point I was addressing. Just because you call yourself something doesn't mean the term is automatically not offensive.
  • They aren't comparable in the way you are trying to compare them. They are in that they are offensive, at least IMO. Kind of like using the word retarded - it's not offensive in the same way that Nazi or the N-word is, (see, I can't even spell it out, let alone say it) but that doesn't mean it's okay to use to describe someone.

yes . If I came in this board and said I am retarded I did xyz. It would still be offensive even though I was calling myself that name. That was my point obviously I was not clear.
  • Now that we're now moving on to the 5th page, let's all have a hugfest and pat ourselves on the back for our own personal attempts on raising happy, healthy babies. We can check in in 18 years and see if any of this matters then. For now we are all content on our methods and that's about all we are going to agree on. image

Ah so when others came on to actually agree with me and lala we need to move on to we are all doing the best we can lets all puppies and rainbows again. Interesting.

I work from home a lot of times on a computer. When in alone with DS I try tummy time with toys, his exersaucer, and swing. Most times what he wants is mommy so my son does get screen time in the form of sitting on my knee while I work. I try not to feel guilty about it.

DH does this on days that he works from home, no harm done.

Surely you guys realize there is a difference between a child catching screen time on your lap which I am sure all our kids have done, and actually buying an app for your 4 month old to play.
