I am a CPA. Previously worked as an auditor in public but for the last 3 years have been an accounting manager for a large US fashion retailer.
I also have an Etsy shop where I hand make baby clothes and accessories. I love love love doing that and would give almost anything to do it full time. It's my long term goal but we aren't quite there yet. It keep me busy though. I pretty much work on orders in all of my spare time.
I would love to see what you sell!! Like I told melissat2742, I would love to support fellow bumpies!
I've been going non stop at school tonight, so I've only had a few times I could sit for a second and catch up, but I finally did. We have an amazing community here! So glad I did this thread, so cool hearing everyone's careers or SAH life. Thanks for the responses! Keep them coming!
High school language arts, talented and gifted, and drama and speech teacher/coach. Love my job, but on days like today (political district BS), I'm not as certain.
Director of Consumer Engagement (PR Marketing Community and CS/Tech Support) at a video-game company. Prior to this I was the head of a Tech Support/Customer Support department for 8 years at another game company. Various jobs before that in the industry up to and including designing games.
Thanks @cinderella021714 for this, it's fun to see what everyone does!
By day I'm an Administrative Assistant at a company that designs boats. I spend a lot of my time wrangling Engineers. By night I'm a writer and a graphic designer. I hope to expand my graphic design work into a sustainable part time thing but so far it's slow going. My husband keeps telling me to "write my million dollar book" so we can retire at 30...as if it's that easy.
@kowyen I also have dreams of being able to sit at home and write and have that be a legitimate source of income....one day....one day...
@elgizzo My sister and I dream of owning a bakery one day. She's actually a certified pastry chef so there's a slightly higher chance of this happening for us :P We always figured she could do the baking, I could do the decorating since my skills in the kitchen are not up to her standards (though DH loves them).
@jenny0314 Girl you should be way more confident in yourself. My best friend from growing up barely finished her associates...and now she makes twice as much money as I do and has a way cooler job. Really all because she has crazy confidence in herself and knows how to sell herself like crazy to a prospective employer. YOU CAN DO IT!
@missycee & @melissat2742 I work with hubby as well but luckily we're in different departments on different floors. It makes carpooling fairly easy when he's not working crazy overtime but I'm glad we don't work side by side, we'd probably nag each other all day long and get nothing done.
Love to my librarian ladies @tiktak & @wonknessmonster! My aunt is a librarian, a friend of mine is a librarian, and I used to work as a page...there's something so wonderful about working around so many books!
"Serious is only something you have to be until you can be silly again."
So many cool professions! I run sales & marketing for a small mainframe software company, pretty much the family business. I wear many hats so it's tough to narrow down an accurate job title but it's currently "marketing coordinator". There are only 7 of us, but we sell our software worldwide....pretty cool when I get to work with people in other countries. AND BONUS, I get to work from home. My husband is active duty CG so it works perfectly when we have to move.
I do want to start designing invitations to sell on Etsy, just need to make the time and go for it. I wanted to be a party planner at one point and would be so good at it, but I just don't want to give up my weekends (especially now starting a family) so I thought this might be a good fit for a creative outlet.
@mangomimosa my SO just finished FNP school and is preparing to take his boards. I am a physician assistant and have work in interventional radiology for almost 6 years but yesterday was my last day at that job. In 2 weeks I start back in the ER full-time which will allow me to be home more. I love the ER and did that for 3 years before my IR job. Love that we have such a variety on here.
I became a dog walker in June. I left my job in special ed because I was so unhappy and I was convinced that stress from my job contributed to my 3 miscarriages. Now I'm 9 weeks along and much happier. I'm planning on staying at home for a year or two and I'm considering starting a professional organizing business.
@pmv81 My dream is to be an event planner. I LOVE designing invitations, decor, etc. for weddings and parties. It goes a little hand in hand with my sister and my bakery dreams. What better than to offer event planning and design along with your wedding cake?

I am currently a middle school teacher but I am finishing up my Masters this fall in Instructional Technology, so I'm hoping to move out of the classroom next year. 12 years with middle schoolers is enough! #:-S
I was just feeling like there were multiples of so many other careers represented on here...where are the librarians?! What type of library do you work in?
Yeah, there were quite a few of us in my last BMB! I wanted to plan a meetup at ALA
Academic at a large research intensive institution. How about you?
That would've been awesome! I was the only one on my last BMB too. I'm a public librarian in a semi-urban library. So mainly I entertain the homeless and babysit peoples' unattended children. ;-)
I'm an academic librarian at a large institution as well.
@pennypretty , get my H a job - naval architecture was his dream job...Also, do you work @ EB or a smaller company?
Right now, for me, I'm in LIMBO. I'm a high school English teacher but I had to leave my last position and while I went on MANY interviews this summer, I didn't get a position for this year. School is starting up for everyone, and no job for me, and I've decided it was the push I needed to get out of teaching. I might go back to school for admin certification, but I think I'm done in the actual classroom. There are things I enjoy about teaching but overall I don't like it and find it incredibly difficult, stressful and thankless. So, I'm trying REALLY FUCKING HARD to find a job with some sort of community organization, non-profit, college, university, what have you. I'm doing ALL the applications!!!!
I was a casino floor person supervisor at Caesars in A.C. NJ. 15 years of the casino was enough. In February of 2010 I became a SAHM/ Student. I graduated in May with my AS in Psychology. Im hoping to start Rowan university in January to work on my BA in Psychology. In the meantime to have spending money I was a few hours a week at TCP (CHILDREN'S PLACE)
I'm a server/bartender at a busy restaurant, also in school to be a clinical lab technichian. Should be interesting running all over the restaurant in a couple of months with a big belly
I love this thread! What a great GTKY! It's so fun to see what everyone else does and dream about what it'd be like to be in someone else's role.
I am a speech-language pathologist. I work in acute care, inpatient rehab, and outpatient therapy. I work with all ages, but specialize in adult neuro (stroke, TBI, Parkinson's, etc) and head and neck cancer- language, speech, cognition, voice, and swallowing disorders. On the side I also work for a skilled nursing facility as needed and conduct research through a university on TBI and cognitive deficits. There is another speech therapist on here, but I can't remember her name to tag her in so she can play, too!
I have to say my mother suffered a brain aneurysm and she now has aphasia , unfortunately we couldn't get her speech therapy due to lack insurance. I wish I could here her speak again. What you do is a great service.
@pennypretty cheers to hoping we both can write our million dollar books and retire at 30!
@FrecklesInside When I was pursuing my degree, I wanted to be a high school English teacher. Then, I decided no high schooler would take me seriously. I found my niche when I started training for the credit union I was writing for (I started there as a teller when we moved to AK... long story). I found I had a captive audience, people were being paid to listen to me and I felt the reward of watching them get promoted which was really, really cool. Now, I make sure people have the training they need to help people with severe and persistent mental illness, which is also very rewarding.
My point is, I was surprised when I started looking for training department jobs. I knew nothing about the field or industry, but had the skills to do it as a strong communicator and comfortable public speaker. Best of luck to you!
I am a SAHM and I do placenta encapsulation as my side job. Before having children (And huge state cutbacks) I was a social worker working in a residential treatment facility for juvenile offenders.
@flmama622 I also have an Etsy shop where I make bows! I also love making them for my step-daughter (she pretty much has one for every outfit). It is a blast!
3rd grade teacher here! Hope to be a reading specialist someday, still at the elementary level. It's fun to hear of all of the interesting jobs everyone has!
I'm a little late but I will add mine anyway! So many glamorous/cool jobs ladies!
I am a project manager at a small business. We install and service fire alarm & burglar systems. Not so glamorous, but I love what I do for now. Ultimately I would like to go to beauty school after baby is born, we will see where life takes us
Hey - I am so late.I am a financial consultant for large businesses. I don't like my actual job, but I like that I am always working at different companies and meeting new people.
I would love to open my own etsy shop. I make those wedding hangers for friends and would love to do other wedding related projects. Maybe someday!
I'm a finance manager for a mid-size church. I'm also the office manager here, but 95% of my job is the finance piece, and very minimal of the office management piece. Small office (there are only 3 of us) so not a lot to manager office wise.
This is an impressive group! I'm late to the party but I've been in different sides of investment banking and institutional investment management for the last decade. It's pretty boring to most people, but I really like the work and the pace.
@flmama622 I also have an Etsy shop where I make bows! I also love making them for my step-daughter (she pretty much has one for every outfit). It is a blast!
@meladoriestar What type of degree to do you need to do that? It sounds like an amazing career.
To be board certified you need a masters in a related field (education, ABA, I think some psychology but you have to make sure it's approved). Then you need 1500 hours of supervised experience, take 6 extra classes in ABA, and pass their crazy hard test. Lots of work but amazing. It's fun and rewarding, and there is tons of job flexibility and security. Ive never not found a job within a month if looking, I make my own schedule, I work from home half the time.
ETA: I know my grammar is awful today but I'm too lazy to fix it. Sorry.
Thanks. I may look into this now. I have a masters in education. I'm tired of the amount of time I spend doing stuff that is not teaching and not helping the kids because of knuckleheads with no experience in education making decisions about education. Andplusalso, my students with disabilities are my absolute favorite population to work with. It may be time to get out of the classroom and get back to working with kids.
@createmagic14 www.bacb.com - it's a seriously amazing job. I don't think I could ever work in schools. There's just so much more freedom to implement the programs I find appropriate without really having to answer to people without any knowledge in the area.
I'm a SAHM. I taught middle school science for a couple of years and then elementary for a year before becoming pregnant with DD1. My husband and I are planning on me homeschooling our kids, so my elementary education M.Ed. will come in handy.
I am a diagnostic Medical Sonographer, aka I do ultrasound. Im a general sonographer which means I do everything except adult hearts. I have registries in abdomen, obgyn, and vascular. I love my job!
