Can I do a GTKY?

I was just curious what everyone did for a living, if you're a SAHM, going to school, etc. Just want to GTK everyone more. :)

I'm a quality control coordinator for a manufacturing plant, and at night I go to cosmetology school and will graduate in March (hopefully sooner). My dream is to be a SAHM again one day.

How about you fine ladies?

I am currently a SAHM, before that I taught elementary school. I got my MA/admin credential right before having DS, so someday I might even do the principal thing (although I'd rather teach college teacher prep courses).

  • I'm a graphic designer. I work at a small print shop so it's nothing fancy. But I like it! It's hard for me to believe but I've been there for 8 years already.
  • Haha @Darbie914‌! I'm the same way! I'd need 6378226 more lives and 1 million % more energy to achieve them... Lol. I tried modeling too and still do it on the side every now and then with my agent, but that was a teenage dream and now I'm like "eh". I do also LOVE to sing though and still would love to pursue something with that, just don't know how I could with 3 kids lol.
  • I'm a director of development for a university.. Translation, I raise money for the school by asking alumni and businesses to donate to things like scholarships. I've been in this industry for 8 years now and have actually spent a lot of time lately thinking about a career change into a less demanding position that doesn't require so many nights, weekends and travel. We are also facing a relocation for DH's job so if this happens I will have the luxury of some extra time at home with the LO so I'll get a taste for SAHM. Any advice for this transition will be appreciated!
  • I work for a wealth management firm. We do financial, retirement, investment, and estate planning. I'm our operations/client relations manager.

  • @MauiBliss‌ I'm so fascinated with a career being an attorney. I considered schooling for that, but I don't have the quick whit or demeanor to represent anyone in the courtroom lol.

@4RingCircus‌ I miss being a SAHM. I was with my 2 kids and went back to work about a year ago. Really hoping I can do that again soon. That's cool though that you taught elementary and you might become a principal!

@elgizzo‌ That's awesome you're a graphic designer! What kind of things do you design? And 8 years? Nice!!

@luckystarz‌ Would you consider pursuing a career in your degree? Is that in the works later? I think it's awesome you could work with special ed and communication disorders.
  • I am a fourth grade home room teacher (history, English, math) at a private school for boys. Our school has a massive construction project going on right now because of some new buildings we just acquired, so my first day back with students won't be until September 10th. While I'm not complaining about extra vacation, I'm actually really anxious to meet my new class. We have a great group coming up, and the worries of first tri have made this the slowest moving summer break of my adult life :)

  • I manage the training and leadership development program for a company that provides mental health services all over a couple of states. My BA is in English so my dream is to be a writer though. Hoping that with baby squatch I can transition to PT and work from home until I can make some money writing and/or editing. A girl can dream!

  • @Lmsq1611‌ Wow that would be a major change for you! You sound very busy! My only advice is never forget to take care of yourself. I was so obsessed with making sure my first LO was ok I never stopped and took me time. I was stressed beyond belief and miserable. With my second I learned to do that and to just breathe and take a step back when I needed to. It also helped that my first child helped me with my second. But yeah, don't forget your happiness matters too. ;)
  • I work at home doing brand marketing for a major internet photo publishing service.

  • I am currently a SAHM. I was working as an RN in a cardiac ICU, but quit when my husband deployed last fall. I was actually about to go back to work when we found out I was pregnant. Decided to stay at home and spend more time with my son until after this one is born. When I go back it will probably only be part time.

  • I'm at SAHM but before that I was a Boatswains mate in the US Navy. I also went to cosmetology school but only do hair on the side because I love staying at home with my daughter.

We have a very diverse group of ladies here!

I work as an executive administrator for the largest real estate company in my city. I work directly with the broker and our general manager and supervise the hiring of new staff members as well as putting policies in place and creating systems for the office.

I love my job, but my dream job would be labor and delivery nurse. If I ever decide it's time for a career change, I will pursue that dream!

  • I work in the admissions office of a rehab hospital (physical therapy, not addiction).

My bachelor's degree is in exercise physiology, and I wanted to go to PT school. Unfortunately there is no school here so it didn't work out.

Thinking about becoming an ultrasound tech. We shall see.

  • Fun thread! I'm a commercial banker for a large bank (I guess that makes me evil). I'm currently trying to get into wealth management or underwriting. Fascinating, I know :p.

  • I work part time at my family's business. I do some light accounting, book keeping, and general reception. MH is the general counsel here so we get to work together and it's great!

Not my dream job, but I've discovered that I am more family minded than career minded. I have my Master's in Math Education, but I've decided I don't want to use it since there are no opportunities for PT teacher around here and I can't imagine going back to FT after being PT for 2 years.

  • @Cinderella021714‌ good luck with cosmetology school! I went to cosmetology school myself when I was a junior and senior in high school. It was a high school program that was completely paid for. It was a great opportunity and the best 2 years of schooling, I met so many great people and learned a ton. But unfortunately I never completed the state board testing, I received my permit, but never got the full license because I was afraid I would fail my practical :( I'm hoping one day to finish it lol.

For now I'm in and out of a community college, hoping to finish my associates this year, and working full time (45 hours/week) at my boyfriend's cousins' dry cleaners, running the drop off store. It's a pretty easy job and I work by myself so I can't complain much. Because of this I feel like I'll never have the excuse to stop working during or after pregnancy lol :-S

  • I am a SAHM now but taught middle school before staying home. I absolutely love teaching but I hate being a teacher (I know that doesn't make sense but too much is dictated about how we should do thing by people who have never stepped foot in a classroom). I don't know if I will ever go back. I have my administration certification but that seems worse. I'm enjoying my time with my kiddo right now.

This seriously seems like the best job ever! I always had the secret desire to own a bakery, but I cannot bake. So yeah, that's not happening!
  • I work for an Investment managmemt firm doing portfolio administration/operations. I want to stay at home while going to school to change careers.

True dat! I'm also an attorney. I was a litigator in private practice for a few years. I'll never go back. Now I work in a policy office at the US Dept of Ed, focusing on special ed and disability rights. I love it.

  • I am an accounting assistant for the County office of education.  I also sell Thirty one on the side :)

I'd love to be at a school though.  That's my goal.  Hopefully sooner than later.

  • @mrskelly731‌ I've been interested in 31. I have a couple friends who are selling that and I might join the bandwagon.. Do you like it and do you get a decent amount of sales?
  • This is fun! I am an agent assistant for a local branch of a world wide building efficiency company (with many entities!). At the local level I assist our business with dispatching mechanics and techs to customers all over the state. My focus is on HVAC and Controls.

Before that I wanted to be a teacher...then decide it was actually people I like working with. I am being raised up to be an agent and then will probably peruse a management position.

I'm actually getting ready to finish my MBA in Marketing in November so we will see where that leads me in the future. Right now, teaching works out and the schedule is fantastic :)
  • Cinderella021714 - I love it!  I have made almost $1000 in 3 months.  I signed up in the middle of April, but didn't get any parties booked until June.  You earn 25% of your volume - it's nice extra spending money :)

@mrskelly731‌ That's so cool! I really want to try it. I'll have to look into how much it is to start and how to sign up.
