My dog ate my homework.....

edited August 2014 in Trying to Get Pregnant
Well, she didn't really eat my homework. However, I finally understand now that it can be a valid excuse! Take a look at what my PITA furbaby did this morning. What is the most destructive thing your fur-baby has done?

edit: I had a very frustrating morning! Trying to share some laughs!

  • In our old apartment, she ate holes in the wall. Three different dog beds. The trim on the wall. The door. She has been chewing our wood coffee table. (we are also missing our remote, so there is a good chance she ate it and hid it). Damn huskies.

  • well...she ate two couches. Here's before she ripped the wooden frame off the front of this one. (AKA when it was still shocking and I wasn't too pissed off to take a picture).

  • You need to have your carpet cleaned... badly.
@hereistreble -- Thank you. I noticed that the day we moved in. Our landlord did not think it was important to change the carpets prior to having new tenants.

  • Female boxer in heat destroyed my door frame, yes the female trying to get out not male.  She also chewed my bed post, more shoes than I can count and clawed up the carpet.
  • Have any of you used the carpet cleaners you rent?

  • 75% of our condo has hardwood floors.  Yet EVERY TIME the cats need to barf, they will do so on the carpet.  Sometimes we see a trail of barf that clearly started on a hardwood floor, and then they were like "OH NO!  NEED TO FIND RUG STAT!" and the rest of it will be all over the carpet.

Fortunately, every time one of them has ever peed outside of the litter box it has been either in the shower (best case scenario) or on the wood floors (not great, but better than soaking into carpet).

They also destroyed an overstuffed chair and ottoman...it was a hand-me-down from my mom, and made of nubby fabric, so they apparently decided it was too much like a scratching post to ignore it.  They have literally never clawed at anything else, other than their actual scratching posts, ever.  Just that one specific chair.

  • my cat is just an asshole.  He pees on the couch because he's too scared to walk to his litter box if something is out of place in the kitchen.  Then he gets so upset and pukes on the steps.

    Ugh.

My cat once majorly clawed my old roomate's black leather jacket. It was hanging on a doorknob and was perfect scratching height. Luckily she wasn't home at the time, and I miraculously was able to conceal the scratches by buffing out the perforated leather and going over the marks with a black Sharpie. My roomate never knew, and we're best friends so she DEFINITELY would have mentioned it if she realized.

  • Yeah when I had my cat, he would still go in the litter box while I was cleaning it. Like he was telling me, "Yo, bitch. This is my litter." And when he would get mad at me, he would poop on the couch.

  • @Budders12 -- ours is a digger sometimes. When we put her outside, when she gets bored she eats grass until she pukes (all started when we moved into our new house). This is not because her tummy hurts b/c she has been eating the same food since she was a pup and is completely fine before and after. She just does it out of boredom and bc she is a huge brat.

  • This made me SO thankful my dog is not a chewer! He is also missing more than half of his teeth so I'm not sure he could do any damage even if he tried.

I think the only naughty thing he does (besides being an ass hole and barking at every single person we pass on a walk) is steal underwear. He will stand on his hind legs to get it out of the hamper if I don't close the lid. Or if H and I leave our pants on the floor when we undress he will steal our underwear and take it under the bed.
  • My dog literally did eat my homework a few years ago. That was fun to explain to my professor.

  • This thread was made for me. My animals are all destroyers! When my oldest a female beagle was a puppy she only chewed up laptop cords. She chewed up mine and my mom's twice. Those things are so freaking expensive. Especially for an 18-year-old broke college student. My boyfriend's Great Dane has completely eaten our couch. It's an older not awesome couch though, you can literally see the bite marks in it, all over it.

My cats however are the real assholes. My kitty Sue, destroyed things all the time. He loved anything that would make a mess! Especially paper towels!

     image

Unfortunately, he passed away. We got a pound kitty to keep our other cat company. Two days after we got him, I woke up to this.

    image

He destroyed a bag of bedding for the rabbit. I can't count the number of times I've come home to a torn up house! So people can believe me when I say that I truly love my animals and the fact that I haven't strangled them proves it!

Our family dog does the same thing, he would steal all my underwear and eat them. Knocked over the hamper to get into my clothes to find them all the time. He would also take my tank tops and chew through the seams down the sides
Thankfully he doesn't chew them, even when he had teeth he didn't :) He just licks them. Which is SUPER nasty :/
  • @daystardreams I love cats. I really do. If my husky didn't like to eat them, I would have one. But they are all assholes.

Oh is this your cup? I like it better on the floor. Is this used to wipe your bum? I like it better as confetti. Were you trying to sleep? Half of my food is gone, feed me!

  • This. Right here. I spent ONE night away on business, and after that she developed separation anxiety and chewed on the front window several times. I redid the curtains after that so at least it's covered. She hasn't tried since.
But she has destroyed a roll of tape, just the cardboard, the rest stayed in tact. She has a thing for cardboard - silly pup thinks toilet paper rolls are a treat). She also has destroyed two pairs of fuzzy boots, numerous flip flops, insoles, and a pop can. I'm sure there's more, but I am forgetting them now.

Same here. I haven't found one yet she hasn't destroyed eventually. I like to buy clearance items (including stuffed animals) just so she can destroy things. I'd rather she destroy what we encourage her to, instead of all the things she gets a hold of.

  • OH! Forgot about this one. My dog peeled and then ATE at the leather off a baseball. Called the vet, freaking out. He said as long as she keeps pooping it's ok, the leather is basically like a rawhide so her stomach can break it down. She was fine. But now there's no unsupervised baseball play.

Oh my gosh I forgot about a dog I had that did that!  She loved dirty underwear, dirty diapers, etc... she would dig them out of the laundry basket or the garbage and go under my bed to devour the delicacies!  Yuck

  • Our dog destroyed a mattress in our guest room when we left him in there when we thought it was too cold to leave him outside. The first day we did that, he was fine. The second day...giant hole in the mattress. To this day when he walks into that room with me and I ask him, in a completely normal, upbeat tone, "what did you do, Gus?" He puts his head down and walks out.

We were warned that our other dog was a counter surfer and would eat undies and other objects lying around. Luckily, she hasn't done anything like that! Though she sniffs my bag very suspiciously when I get home from work.

They and their puppy friends have completely destroyed our backyard though.

  • Oh counter surfing! I forgot about that! Nina's first time countersurfing I was making bacon for our twice-baked potatoes. I really had to pee so left the bacon on the counter for like 43 seconds to run upstairs. When I came back down, she had all of the bacon hanging out of her mouth and just ate it as fast as she could.

When H got home, he couldn't even be mad because he said he would have done the same thing if I left him alone with bacon.....

We don't even bother buying our dog stuffed toys or anything that can be ripped/chewed apart because she does the same thing! We've resorted to only buying her the big nylabones (for "aggressive" chewers) she loves them and doesn't chew anything else up in the house (unless she happens upon a stray stuffed animal because those are her weakness....)

Before we got smart though (when she was still relatively young) she did chew up a pair of my glasses! I was so pissed! Aside from that it's been the random flip flop here and there.... Oh and she chewed the bottom out of a box of milk bones to get to the bones one time!

  • Luckily it has never been anything important for me.  She has torn up kleenex and toilet paper.  She has also chewed off the corner on some school stuff, but never anything I had to turn in.  Now that she is a bit older she only chews on her toys, unless we are playing with something like a cardboard tube from paper towels.
  • my cat just pukes on everything- hardwood floors, rugs, furniture, whatever she desires. and she has shredded the back of one of the couches, despite having toys and scratching posts in nearly every room of the house. she kind of sucks now that i think about it...

  • @briannamarie516-we use the carpet cleaner you can rent from petsmart. It is pretty cheap and super easy to use. I get it every couple of months. It uses bissal cleaning products which I order online since they are cheaper than the ones in the store. Gotta love amazon!

On a side note, I am thinking about just buying my own as we now have more carpeted rooms than before and a one day rental is cutting it close. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • We never had too much of an issue, because we crate our dog, so he's not really unsupervised to be destructive, but the reason we started crating was one of my childhood dogs.  She was super destructive - remotes, couches, shoes.  So one day, my parents put her in the basement while we were gone (it was finished, but pretty empty, so nothing to destroy).  She clawed through the basement door- destroyed the door, and gave herself bloody paws.  My parents went out and bought a crate that day.

  • My puppy was the sweetest, most well behaved dog ever, so I don't have any bad or weird stories about him.

DH's aunt's dalmatian, on the other hand, acted out whenever he was left alone during non-business hours. He ate the 4th Harry Potter book once, but the best story was when he ate an entire box of tampons. They expanded in his stomach, and he required an $8,000 emergency after hours surgery. That dog was a special mix of evil and crazy.

My big girl, Evangeline can climb trees. She loves me SO MUCH that she will climb trees and catch squirrels, then bring them to me. She is so proud of this skill set.

My sheltie steals and licks dirty underwear.

My little girl likes to eat the aglets off of anything that has one (shoes laces, hoodie strings, etc.)

Bourbon (the medium one) likes to open our mail for us if we don't do it in a timely manner.

Leo the geriatric Italian greyhound is too good to poop outside, and has been since he was four, the douchebag.

Five dogs = five ways to question dog ownership.

@aztecash‌ DH worked at an emergency vet for a while; tampons are dog killers, it is CRAZY. Dogs LOVE them, but between the strings and the absorbent material, the dog doesn't have a chance...

  • My cat has peed on two bags. And it is impossible to get the smell of set in cat pee out. One bag was $80 and the other was $140. Had to trash them.
  • My Australian Shepherd mix had super horrible seperation anxiety. No kennels, he would injure himself trying to escape. He once broke a door completely in half because I left him in the room while I left for the store. The entire bottom half of the door was knocked off.

However, the worst thing is that he broke through the glass in windows. Multiple times. Because I had no way to contain him without risk of injury, I gave him free run of the house while I was gone....he would find a window he could reach and just sling himself at it. Thankfully he never injured himself, but it was such a stressful time trying to find a combination of training and calming methods to help him (and keep me from going insane!)
