  • @wildflower75 First, I should say it is undeniable that he is a good businessman and he clearly has a talent for finding talent. I will give him that. Also, I will say, if he had really retired all those years ago when he said he was going to retire, my opinion of him would be different. He should have gotten out while the getting was good. I think his lyrics and rapping get worse as time goes on. And I hate how in all his songs half of his "lyrics" are him saying "uh, uh, uh". Those aren't lyrics. As for three better, living, rappers, that is too easy. Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop.
I would agree with you on Eminem, but I feel like rappers like Machine Gun Kelly, J. Cole, and maybe Mac Miller are better (maybe more relevant) than Dre and Snoop.  But that's my opinion :)
    But not better than Jay
    :)

I guess I am just getting tired of people saying that we don't allow new ideas or because some people are "popular" that they don't get flamed. It's one thing when this comes from lurkers who never post, but when it comes from regulars who never had a problem posting their opinions before I have to wonder what the fuck happened.

When I first got to TB I didn't get the culture either and was told to GTFO if I didn't like it. I took their advice and got some big girl panties. So my advice us the same for you, own your opinions and tell us what's on your damn minds.

  • I don't understand the whole idea of ransacking and destroying one's own neighborhood in protest of something that has happened.  I am speaking of the shooting in St. Louis and while I don't have all the details and agree that what happened is terrible, I just don't understand the reaction.  I can get with protesting, but damaging your own neighborhood is hard for me to understand.

Please understand that my DH (who is African American) and I (Caucasian) have conversations about these kinds of things all the time and it baffles him too.  I am, in no way, trying to make this a race conversation; I am just confused by the action.  It's the same question as to why white people shoot up their own schools.  I don't get it.

Out of all the peaceful and positive things happening there, they have chosen to focus on the handful of persons taking the negative route. And while I personally wouldn't be out there looting and destroying my surroundings..I do understand that they are grieving, scared, angry, and need to pour their frustrations out somewhere. It interesting to see what people are capable of doing and how far they are willing to go when they seemingly have nothing to lose...
Good point. And also a bit scary, but I can understand the frustration when we appear to have come so far.  I can see the frustration in my husband's eyes when he hears about shootings like this one and then I see the frustration stay when he sees the aftermath.  What I hate the most is probably how the whole story is being portrayed in the media.  I don't feel like we ever get the full story and the media likes to pick on the easy bad guy, or so it seems.
Absolutely! Watching the local media vs. the national has been eye opening to say the least.  The national news only shows pictures of Mike Brown making hand signals while local news shows his graduation pictures and pictures with his family.  The local news is fed up with the police as well though. The police have been making protestors leave at 9:00pm the last few nights and when protestors and reporters don't listen they throw smoke bombs and tear gas at them.  Last night they threw an alderman in jail for sitting in his car and not going home when they asked him to.  It's frustrating because on one hand, yes, you have the right to peacefully protest but on the other hand the police have a duty to protect the community and the peaceful protests attract the individuals looking to turn things violent at night. So, peaceful protestors, reporters and violent individuals are becoming more and more angry every time they feel their rights are being infringed upon. At this point it's hard to say what will need to happen to allow tensions to die down.

  • Not trying to stir up shit or anything, but I will say this: There have been multiple situations where it feels like you cannot question someone's actions on this board without incurring the wrath. Everyone is so quick to jump in and defend this board and its members that they never stop to question anything, even when maybe they should. And like I said, this isn't related to one particular situation for me, I've seen it happen multiple times.

Also, I think the whole "us vs. them" thing with people in the FB group is kind of tiresome.

I think it's great that everyone here really likes each other, and support is most certainly a good thing. But like @golfingdarwinfish and @ADH0906 said, sometimes I feel like it gets done blindly, or people are afraid to disagree with the group, and that makes me sigh.
Ironically, this is the reason I left my daughter's BMB FB goup.  Everyone was so enthralled with a handful of the members that you incurred the wrath of the gods if you dare disagree!  I feel like on TB there is more anonymity so it is easier to stay away from the group think mentality.

But that is my perception...apparently not everyone's!

I agree, not a fan of Jay-Z and Bey. I like Jay-Z's earlier stuff but when they remade Tupac's Me and My Girlfriend and completely ruined an interesting personification of Tupac's gun, it ruined me on those two for life.

I couldn't agree more. It comes from both sides though. I am in both groups and I have decided it's best not to say anything about it in either group. The whole thing is just nasty on both TB and FB.

  • Let me make things REAL serious with my UO. I hate Jay Z and therefore, by association, I hate Beyoncé. I think Jay Z should stick to producing and never ever sing or rap, ever. He is terrible. If they were to break up, I could maybe like Beyoncé. Maybe. I know, this is some crazy shit I am spouting off.
This seriously made me LOL. BAHAHAHA!!

  • I personally want people to call me out if I've got my head up my ass. Not an invitation to N14... To the members here. I contacted someone who went to the N14 thread and asked for her opinion and ended up having a great pm about it. I would have had the same conversation on my post had she commented there. Still not sure why I didn't get flamed by people whose opinions actually matter to me. Not that I am saying you are talking about me, but that was one instance where we were very publically flamed for our Mean Girls culture.

NavyFlyer  Thanks for the link! I love that! I will say that I think there is a huge difference between the best lyricist and the best rapper... but that is a debate for another time...

I like your list but I don't think anyone on that list has come out with an album in the past 5 years or so. I do have to agree with you on the remake of My Girlfriend... I think it's blasphemous to remake any Tupac song.

For the record I've always had a love/hate relationship with Beyonce and just recently got on board 100% with her with this new album. Jay Z on the other hand has always been my favorite. :)

Wow, well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree....
But I will say that there is a reason why Jay has been listed in the top 10 rappers alive every year since 1999.

Yea, because he owns the hip hop world and no one wants to be on his bad side. It's like a bunch of Iraqis in the 90s who the best leader of a country was. They would be saying Saddam Hussein whether they believed it or not. I also don't trust top ten lists on principle alone. I don't like people telling me what I should like. @MRSclarke08, I agree Snoop and Dre are no longer super relevant, but, especially for Snoop, as long as he is alive, he makes my top three list of living rappers. He was just too great for too long. I do agree that there are a lot of younger, extremely talented rappers out there. What made me think of my UO was an article I saw the other day where Jay Z said Eminem is the most overrated rapper of all time. Gimme a break. I think people who try to suggest that he isn't the greatest rapper of all time are delusional. He must be doing something right. He has sold more albums than any other rapper and the only individual male artist to outsell him is Garth Brooks.
    Whoa! Blasphemy!
I like a lot of the music he does with other artists lately (ex Holy Grail with JT) but I agree that he seems to mostly be a businessMAN to me, at least the last several years. He's smart in that respect.

Oh, trust--my big girl panties (and girl, are they big these days!) are firmly in place. :)

I agree that people should own their opinions and voice them when they want. I think I certainly do. But I know that there are others who probably don't feel as comfortable doing so, and I think the tone of the board sometimes contributes to those feelings.

    ---------------
I would have to agree with you on all that. Though it does make me sad to not see your panties here. I wanted to pm you yesterday to find out if you were coming back and couldn't even find your account in our recent thread history to pm you...

If everyone wants a debate, we could talk about weed.

The only true UO I have (other than the marijuana of course) is such a hard topic to discuss w/o offending anyone to the extreme..and that is organized religion. I don't even want to get into it because there are several bumpies who I know have deep, religious roots, and I don't want to lose "friends" over something I truly don't care about. You do you, I'll do me, and that's the way the world should work IMO. Different strokes for different folks. But it isn't worth fighting over.

  • @MrsL2B‌ @Liss1481‌ I feel the same way about shows right now. However, I've watched and enjoyed a few episodes of Married. New show on FX. 30 rock and parks were my jams, without those there's no comedic shows I like any more. And if one more person says I should get into Big Bang Theory.......that show sucks! There's my UO.

@dorothyzbornak97‌ I was wondering if you were coming back. This is serious imo. If we're losing members because we have created a culture of faux Internet popularity, we need to fix it stat.

    Whaaaaat is it?

IMO - I find that people are quick to be "absolute" and snarky with small issues.  And then hot button issues seem to be glossed over.  Which can be confusing and distancing, I think.  I've stayed away from most threads for this reason.

Well next time girl you should speak up! At the end of the day we want some hot action up in here.

I don't get what the big deal is with either of them. I wasn't a huge fan of Beyonce BEFORE Jay Z. And I don't care enough about her to put that little fancy line over the e. SORRY, NOT SORRY, BEY.

  • I have to agree with not being a Beyonce fan. But I like Jay-Z. Beyonce spent her last 2 albums singing about awful relationships when she's clearly happy as a clam. Write something new already! You are allowed to be happy.
crawford411 her last album she is VERY happy (sexually)..that's what made me like her more...

@Wino411  Agreed... a slew of rappers would be nobody if Tupac and Biggie were still alive!

I feel like the only controversial topic that hasn't been mentioned is religion. I've made it a general rule for myself not to talk about religion or politics. Esp being in the Midwest where you go to church and the views are very conservative when I'm quite the opposite. I made one off handed remark regarding the topic of abortion 2 years ago and my MIL hasn't let it go since then. I really don't even remember what it was. That's how obscure it was.

  • @MrsSarahRenee We got into Orange Is The New Black, but sometimes, I'm like, ok, stop trying to hard with ALL the nudity and ALL the controversy. I feel like Netflix/HBO/Showtime are all just TRYING to out-raunch each other sometimes. I still like the show, but I find myself texting or playing on the computer when it's on, so I kinda don't know what's really going on.

We are watching Breaking Bad, and the same thing happened. I was INTO IT the first season and a half, and now we're on the last season, and I kinda hate it now. I think that's pretty unpopular.

@scottysgirl77 Donuts are never my go-to. I know they won't make me

@Kaylajade8911 I have no desire to watch GOT. None.

@MrsSarahRenee I also hate the beach, but now that we are going to have a kid, I guess we have to go to beaches and shit. We're already planning on going with the in-laws when she's around 9-10 months old. Oy. Bathing suits.
