    If you do have a smartphone, the kindle app is pretty good - maybe that will help tide you over?  ETA: So yeah, what @Jo581011 said ;-)

    @tiffletons518 - I never got braces, and I really needed them.  I know the price of braces sucks, but given the societal pressures out there, I would definitely bite the bullet for my kid.

    We wound up moving to a different country around the time my Mom had finally convinced my Dad to get them for me, and it all fell through.

    My Mom still says that when she can she wants to help me out in paying to get braces, as it's still a source of embarrassment for me (maybe embarrassment is a bit too strong of a word, but it does make me self-conscious when meeting new people, and I'm already introverted, so it just snowballs into a big fat fail).

    I really wish I were able to financially swing braces, and definitely regret the fact that this wasn't sorted out when I was a kid.

    @musicalsilver Oh I totally plan to do it. I'm just whining about it. I wore them too, and I know how much I hated the way my teeth looked. They start earlier now. They are going to expand her palate first, so the rest will have room. Once they have the space, they should come in straighter. They said roughly 10 months, and then just watching her as the rest of the adult teeth come in to make sure everything is good. I can either pay everything up front and get a discount of a few hundred dollars. Or, I can pay $700 up front, and pay almost $300 a month interest free. Our option is much less desirable, which is using an outside company which charges a ridiculous interest rate, but a much smaller monthly payment. Sucks, but we don't have $3000 just laying around, nor can we afford another car payment. Blah.

    @kari5186 - I cried when my kindle broke too! I can't live without a book to read!  I hope you are able to get on through one of the deals soon. I bought the paperwhite about 2 months ago and I LOVE it!

    My sister's teeth were really crooked and crowded but at some point in high school her mouth grew and they all settled in properly. Now she has a pretty cute smile.

    Aaand we just got an email letting the parents know that a kid at Montessori (one of the kids in the 3-6yr classroom) has chickenpox.

    I knew there were a handful of kids that weren't vaccinated at this school, but wham, bam, heeeeeeello vaccine-preventable illness!

    I'm just happy that this kid is in a completely separate building.  Because LO doesn't get the chickenpox vaccine until 15 months.  I can't even imagine dealing with that in cranky-mc-teething-toddlerson.

    I never had the chicken pox. Never had the vaccine. Glad KJ is getting it but I hope she won't be able to spread it to me. I am not immune and I am afraid of getting it as an adult.

    I had the chicken pox twice. First time they showed up on Easter when I was 3, second time day before Christmas Eve when I was 5.

    I'm in the same boat as @sctiger‌ . I got the shot in 5th grade. When Lily got the vaccine, I freaked a little because they gave her one with love virus.

    So when LO was born, there were some complications and he spent a few days in the NICU. My ILs have a friend who is a neonatologist and they called him for reassurance a few times. That friend and his wife are in town so we all went out to dinner tonight. MIL kept going on and on about how helpful he was when we were all in "a state of despair." I'm sorry, but I refuse to refer to my feelings at the birth of my baby as despair. It was sometimes scary and I was worried, but he had a bunch of doctors taking care of him and he's perfect. I feel like despair should be reserved for a loss. I think I want to say something to MIL, but am I being unreasonable?
