I do not want to go to a public place and have to shield my children's eyes because someone is pulling out their breast in public to feed their child instead of finding a remote quiet space or at least cover up..
Oy. Well the law protects my right to feed my child in public. I respect your personal feelings of modesty, but puhlease.
And I am pissed that they have actually put a law into place that would protect women who chose to subject other children to such inappropriate behavior.
Please oh please come back and explain this. Please!

No, thank you.
Breastfeeding is no more inappropriate than bottle feeding. If you don't want to deal with the public, I'll offer the same advice I have OP -- stay at home with your children. When you go into public you get to deal with the public, which includes women feeding their babies in whatever manner they need to.

The shit hath hitteth the fan...eth. (100 points to anyone who knows the reference.)
And also, WTAF @AggieMom0809 ?? Someday, I hope more than anything, that I'll be BFing in a restaurant where you and your kids happen to be eating. I hope that I see you shielding your children's eyes. And I hope that you're sitting near enough to hear me laughing as I feed my child with my breasts. You know, those sexy funbags that also, for some bizarre and stupid reason, also produce FOOD.

A little background on the photo-- my sister and I were getting portraits of us done for our business website. We both had our sons with us, and decided to include them in some of our pictures. At one point, mine was fussy and not cooperating so I sat down to nurse him. My photographer friend decided it would be nice to take a picture.
I don't think you should have to explain the photo at all. Some of the reactions have been appalling.

for realz? i mean, you can't possibly be seriously calling feeding a hungry baby "inappropriate behavior". that would be completely absurd.

I don't get it.. if you don't like it, look the other effin way. If you don't want people to see you, use a cover. Who cares how it's done, a kid is getting fed the way mother nature originally intended.
hide in a corner or use a cover (that my baby hated and I couldn't properly monitor his latch issue),
I have to say, part of me would wonder, why don't they just use a cover rather than deal with the wrath of the annoyed people out there, but this makes total sense. I could see a lot of kids not liking being hidden under a cover, and then what the hell are you supposed to do? Starve them because people are afraid of some boobs? And agree- we see SO much more skin at the beach or online or on tv, people are weird. Not to mention, we see just as much boob on a lot of guys who wear their shirt off and have some extra weight. Just saying.

I'm pissed that formula makers tout that formula is just as good as breast milk. You don't see me up on my high horse, freaking out and shielding my kid from a bottle feeder, do you?
No.
Why? Because IDGAF how anyone feeds their child.
Well, if you live near me, great job shielding your child's eyes from a bottle full of breast milk since I pumped for 23 months of DD's life after she stopped latching at 8 weeks.
Bottle doesn't always equal formula. And fed babies over hungry babies always equal the best situation for everyone.
Edited-- Sorry I misread your thing. I'm a little heated right now. You weren't saying you actually have done that. Oooooops.
@Stargirlb-- He's all "This is my milk, b!tch. Go get your own." hahaha.
But like I've said, I'm in the camp of the photo doesn't bother me. Other than being jealous your kid kept latching. The one thing I'm actually excited about with this pregnancy is maybe 2.0 will for real breastfeed and I won't be enslaved to the pump...

major props to you. i fought and fought with DS for six weeks trying to get BFing off the ground. his issues wasn't so much the latch as the lack of sucking. i nearly EP'd for him for six weeks before giving up, so i commend you for sticking with pumping so long. (i know you said it in another post and not this one, but you talked about being enslaved to a pump here.) i was a single mom at the time and something had to give.
the photo doesn't really bother me either. i feel like the setup is a little odd but that has nothing to do with breastfeeding, and it's not my photo so i really don't care.

Just a heads up for anyone who says, why don't they just use a cover...I did for a while but then lo kept yanking it up so he could see out, so what calls more attention, me with my child happily nursing or me with my soon popping off and on and flailing a piece of fabric at you. Believe me, less people notice when you have a matching tank and pull up your shirt a little than when you're wearing some flowery hooter hider that's being flapped around.

^^DD wouldn't use a cover either in the 8 weeks she nursed. It was by far more useful when I had to pump in public. No one yanking at it then. Normally. haha
@longcat07-- I guess I haven't mentioned yet that I probably could only have pumped as long as I could because DH took over the night feedings with DD after a while of me saying I was going to stop because I would seriously give DD her bottle, then be up another 45 minutes to pump and it was ridiculous.
I could have NEVER pumped that long if I was a single mom. I'd have died. Probably from exhaustion.
I breast fed both of my children, but I wasn't not going to use my child to promote another stupid feminist view! Yes I do keep my children from staring at babies who are bottle feeding, though I do think that should also be done away from others. It is much harder for any child to eat if they are distracted. Even when they are older, eating time is not for socializing. It is for nourishing our bodies. You can talk when you are done.
I'm also surprised that so many of you are against someone with an actual opinion and not just jumping on the bandwagon because that's what society thinks they should do. Wouldn't the be a bit hypocritical?

I'm not calling feeding a baby inappropriate behavior, but I do consider pulling out ones breast in a public place inappropriate. If you really feel the need to feed them right then and there COVER UP!!! Be a little considerate for others! Not USE your baby to prove your opinion!
This is the thread that never ends. Yes it goes on and on my friends. Some people started bashing me for my judgy judgy ways, but now it has digressed so much it feels like we're posting just because.
You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.

LOL. I should have used this line on my dad when I was 8 and he was making us go around the table and talk about our day. "Sorry, Dad. Eating time is not for socializing. We can talk when I'm done." Yeah, THAT would have gone over well.
Also, I hope anyone offended by breast feeding never visits rural parts of Africa. I've never been, but it's my understanding from friends who have helped dig wells there and my college Anthropology class that the WOMEN walk around shirtless all the time BECAUSE boobs are for BABIES.
@collinsbri-- you posted exactly what I've been debating posting ALL DAY. +1 interwebz.
I keep up on all the latest feminism products and love this one. My boobs are wayyyy too big to wear a bikini top like that but I would if they made it into a halter with extra support haha.
Ok, I couldn't resist posting THIS "feminist" product... The images in this link are NSFW.
