  • I hate harry potter, my children won't be allowed to watch it.
  • I hate harry potter, my children won't be allowed to watch it.

Hate is a strong word! What are your reasons?

  • I'm not a fan of Star Wars.... but I like Star Trek and pretty much all other scifi

as for the HP, eh whatever, I think it's dumb to ban something like that from your kids, but if that's what you want to do, more power to you. It's not like banning HP from your household is literally going to harm your children. It also doesn't guarantee that your kids won't go sneak off and go watch/read them elsewhere.

  • I hate harry potter, my children won't be allowed to watch it.

It is one thing not to like it, but to keep it from your kids because you don't like it? That would be like me not allowing my kids to eat onions. Lame!
This, If you don't like it whatever, but I don't think it's fair to keep you kids from something just because you don't like it. I think children should be able to form their own opinions. I hate yo gabba gabba, but do I not allow dd to watch it because of that? No, I let her watch it because "SHE" likes it
I think it depends on the reasoning behind it. I hate Sponge Bob and my son is/will not be allowed to watch it. But I think it's inappropriate, not educational whatsoever, and only teaches children to be obnoxious. Plus I've seen a few articles out there linking to ADHD (not sure of the validity).

That said, there are things I don't care for that my son can watch or read. As long as they are appropriate or educational I don't mind. For example, I really don't enjoy Sesame Street. But if he likes it, fine.

For the record, love Harry Potter!

  • My parents forbade Ren & Stimpy, the Simpsons, and other things I don't even remember... While it was irritating to me at the time in retrospect I respect their rationale. They were concerned about the attitude of the characters teaching me that it was ok to be disrespectful. I get it, and I might even make the same decision show by show when I start scoping things out.

But in Harry Potter the recurrent themes are loyalty, bravery, friendship, love, inclusivity... Which is why I am looking forward to @ambershaw512‌ explaining her reasons.

  • I'm not one to tell people how to do their job because I don't want people to tell me how to do my job BUT when I walk in for blood work and tell the lady I have awful veins and butterfly needles usually work better please just take my word for it.

Nope she says I got this stabs me once and didn't get the vein, tries again, guess what she can't get the vein! Gives up and has another nurse do it, the other nurse uses a butterfly needle and gets it first try.

I was so upset she didn't listen to me! I was there for a 2 hour glucose test, should have only taken 3 needles instead since this woman knew what she was doing and didn't listen to me I ended up with 5 needles!

To be honest, I rarely listened to the ppl I drew blood from. I'd make the judgement for myself when I palpated for veins. Sometimes they were right and I'd pull out the hot packs and butterfly needle...other times they were wrong and they'd have a beautiful vein that was just a little deep.

However, she could have been like one of my coworkers who was cocky as hell and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I'm sorry you had to get more pokes than necessary...that's a pain in the ass.

  • lol everyone knows what will happen when a parent expressly forbids something.....

Especially something as universally popular as Harry Potter...
Not always. I never pursued the shows my parents banned. As an adult I watched the Simpsons once with my husband, I didn't enjoy it, and that's that.
I'll have to agree with this. It depends on the personality of the child.

  • Officially banning all things I don't like. Sorry kid, no broccoli, yogurt, Mickey Mouse clubhouse, or any other evil, evil things.

Oh wait no, as long as it's not inappropriate you can like whatever you want.

Now will it be the first thing I introduce when LO is born? Probably not. But as for forbidding it, I think you're being ridiculous.

Also Harry Potter made childhood magical.

  • That sucks @shimmer475‌! I would be pissed.... Also, I wasn't allowed to watch Simpsons either, but like others have said, made me want to watch it even more as to see why.

Because after all the drama on the bump for the last week, sometimes it's fun to debate something that is not earth shaking. ;)
so instead of commenting on it yourself..... you did what?

Ah. Don't know if pleasantly surprised or disappointed.

    I'd go with pleasantly surprised.

Because this is an epic wrong that should be righted immediately.

Also, please tell us of the other side-eye-able things on your BMB.

All I remember is chick who thinks paying extra copays is a scam for extra monitoring when she had a premie last time, FTM registry woes, and inductions for scheduling convenience. Nothing as earth shaking as Harry Potter hate.

Okay I am with you on the copays, and the registry woes. That's dumb shit. But I don't think it's fair to attack someone for considering an induction so DH could be there. Especially because it's an idea brought up by a doctor. DH missing the birth is a huge deal. Obviously like I said there, I decided it's not worth an induction or c section that's unnecessary, but I did consider it because I didn't want him to miss seeing his first child be born. So if you want to flame that, get at me.

  • @TheEmpireNeedsYou‌ okay fair enough, it came across at first as you comparing that kind of decision to complaining about shower gifts. But I hear you on it being flame worthy on other boards.

  • Im with @mrsdanielleM2010‌ I never watched the things that my mom didn't want me to watch (harry potter) because of the witchcraft/sorcery. My mom wouldnt let my sister and i watch cinderella because the cats name is lucifer. I tried to watch some of HP once at SIL but I just couldn't even get through it. Yea I get most Disney movies are "magic" but they are cartoons they make children use their imaginations. Harry potter uses real people which makes children believe its real and its borderline scary. I guess its more of i don't like the "real" perspective of sorcery. The little mermaid is DDs favorite movie, I mean clearly there's witch craft there (the seawitch turns the mermaid into a human, using spells and magic) its just different to me. If she wants to watch it when she's older then fine but not until they move out of my house.

When my 10 yr old brother watches spongebob or those stupid shows on cartoon network like yo gabba gabba and the magic world of gumball or whatever it is, then I make him turn it because I don't like them. If he watches it at home I don't care but its the way I feel about the shows.
  • Holy shit.

I want HP to be real so bad.

I will be Neville's girlfriend.  That hufflepuff chick can BACK OFF.
