@somerandomchick‌ it doesn't have to be equal. But if you have a $7000 dress, don't serve me cold apps and have a cash bar. Fake flower aren't for me, but I really don't care what your flowers are. Basically, remember that you are throwing a party, so take your guests into consideration. If you have a low budget and can only afford a cake and punch reception in the church basement, that's fine. But don't have a $7000 dress, flaunt that and then spend $2000 on the rest, kwim?

Eta: or rent a trolley for yourself, spend $5/invite and have your wedding in a location where your guests have to spend $5 to park. For me, just be considerate of your guests when planning how to spend your wedding budget.

I could care less about how people throw their weddings. I just enjoy going and celebrating. I have been to super formal, super casual, open bar, cash bar, and have always had fun. I definitely like to focus on the couple and what an exciting time it is for them, even more so since I have been married.

Yes. A lot actually. I was not always the good little Mormon girl. Lol. From about 18 to 27 I drank socially. I don't think I've ever had a drink alone in my life. The last time I drank was my Vegas birthday trip about a month after I turned 27. So almost six years ago. Holy moly I didn't realize it had been that long.

I don't drink vodka anymore (maybe had it twice in the past 5 years). I realized that it makes me really angry. I always get into a fight with my husband when I have it.

No. It was already on the decline and I had been sober for a good year or two before that trip. I doubt I would have had any had I not been on that trip. If that makes sense. So I would have been sober for seven or eight years now instead of six. I stopped drinking because I started going to church again. So it was really just a return to my faith that made me stop.

Also, I don't think a casual drink is bad. Everything in moderation. I just think it's sad if you feel you have to drink to have fun at a party. I have plenty of fun at parties without booze. I think I just don't like the idea of drinking to the point where you're cognitively altered.

I agree.

We had sparkling apple juice & a champagne toast only. The rest was lemonade, tea & coffee. Our ceremony & reception was a brunch buffet.

I think that's an excellent compromise! I don't think it's a big deal to do a totally dry wedding or partial open bar. It's just tacky to require your guests to pay for their refreshments at your wedding (i.e. a full cash bar, nothing included).

I had a dry wedding, in Wisconsin. It was a short ceremony outdoors at a botanical garden, followed by lunch for 40-50 people in a room overlooking the gardens. We had excellent food, and drinks included a flavored lemonaide bar, iced tea, sparkling cider, coffee, etc. DH wanted to avoid alcohol entirely to prevent certain alcoholic family members from getting drunk and fighting.

I think my wedding was so perfect. It was all about us. We paid so we did it our way. I planned every detail to be personal and inclusive of our guests.
My friend got married 3 months before us and spent 4x what we spent and her wedding was cold and impersonal. Her and her husband are constantly talking divorce.

My sister never sent out thank you cards from her wedding. At one point she said she was only going to send to people who gave them a great gift (big amount of cash). I totally side eye that. My thank you cards were out within a week or two.

We had a "cheap" wedding. FIL bought some kegs and other liquor and drinks. It was self serve. We had Arbys roast beef and ham and other dishes family helped make. Ot saved us money. Not "classy" but it worked for us. Pretty laid back.

Our friends got married in 2008. They had a buffet with pizza, spaghetti and such. I loved it. I love laid back weddings.

Another "cheap" wedding here. We had fake flowers in the bouquets for the girls and me. We didn't have a lot of money for our wedding and spending money on sonething that is going to die is stupid imo. I got to keep my bouquet. The rest of the decorations were pinwheel that I hand made.

I used to work in catering at WP zoo. The weddings there were ridiculous! So expensive and amazing. Everyone always had so much fun.
