Mine is really unpopular. I think it's sad that people think you have to have alcohol to have fun. I don't understand why you have to have a mind altering substance in order to enjoy a party. What does that say about our society that a dry wedding is a lame or boring or not fun? I mean really. I know it's unpopular as one of only like two people on the board that doesn't drink (that I can think of) but whatever.

Alcohol makes me chill out. I'm kind of high-strung most of the time. I also really enjoy a glass of wine with my food. If I'm eating a delicious steak or piece of fish, I enjoy a glass of red or white wine with it.

I knew you would comment on this because I know you don't drink. Have you ever been buzzed/drunk? Just curious :)

Yes. A lot actually. I was not always the good little Mormon girl. Lol. From about 18 to 27 I drank socially. I don't think I've ever had a drink alone in my life. The last time I drank was my Vegas birthday trip about a month after I turned 27. So almost six years ago. Holy moly I didn't realize it had been that long.

Was there something that happened on that trip that made you stop drinking?

I don't drink vodka anymore (maybe had it twice in the past 5 years). I realized that it makes me really angry. I always get into a fight with my husband when I have it.

I stick to beer, wine, and the occasional marg :).

    I agree.

We had sparkling apple juice & a champagne toast only. The rest was lemonade, tea & coffee. Our ceremony & reception was a brunch buffet.

Not a UO to me. Mornings are the only time of day I actually have energy to get things done (after my cup of coffee of course).
  • @ncchnat‌ I agree that there are certain circumstances like you mentioned above that warrant supervised bottle propping.
  • I think bottle propping is lazy. I understand there are circumstances where it would be necessary, but I don't understand why you can't sit there and hold your baby and feed it for a few minutes if those circumstances don't apply to you. Chores can wait... right @michandfranktakes2
And also babies have drowned in their own formula because of bottle propping at young ages.
I have nothing witty to say, I'm slightly pickled today.  But if propping a bottle meant that he'd actually drink from the bottle?  Sign me up.  I can't get milk into this child more than an ounce or two a few times a day....  And who says that propping a bottle means leaving the room?
  • Also we had no flowers and did open bar for beer/wine/water/soda but anything else was cash. I felt that was a good compromise. The wedding we'd been to the year before ours was total open bar and DH's friends are bad at moderating. I felt like they wouldn't be able to get as sloppy on beer and wine.
I think that's an excellent compromise! I don't think it's a big deal to do a totally dry wedding or partial open bar. It's just tacky to require your guests to pay for their refreshments at your wedding (i.e. a full cash bar, nothing included).
  • I care more about the food. But if you register for expensive shit only I expect an open bar. Flame me!!! >:)

Also we did signature cocktails, wine and beer all open and no other liquor.

If I had to do it over again I think this is what I'd do. We got married in our early/mid 20s and were still very much in party mode.

Yep. We got married mid 30's and my credit card was being swiped for the bill. Ohhh...the miles. Gotta love all the miles I got ;)

    Bonus:

  • We have two wedding coming up. I'm far more excited for the one in a park than the one at a Hilton.

  • We plan to redo our wedding in the next few years. Since ours was such a catastrophe.
There will be an inexpensive dress, paper flowers, and most likely no alcohol.
Oh, we also plan to do it at the zoo.
    I can't wait. :)

I used to work in catering at WP zoo. The weddings there were ridiculous! So expensive and amazing. Everyone always had so much fun.
