NBR: What do you wish was illegal?

Here's mine. I wish it was illegal to leave your shopping cart in the parking lot. First off, it can hit someone's car. Secondly, if it's in a parking space, that's just annoying. Thirdly, is it so hard to walk to the damn cart corral? You don't even have to walk back to the store! There is a conveniently placed cart corral right outside! Put that shit away! OK now you! ;)

@tarynleann agreed. There is a store I like to go to that doesn't have one and it's a little more annoying.

I'm guilt of this. But mostly when, say it's raining and I have DS. I don't want to leave him alone in the car while I return the cart. Nor do I want him to sit in the cart in the rain while I load groceries and return the cart.
I can see it. I can't really say anything to this because I've not yet been in this situation (FTM to be). I guess I'll find out soon!  :D

I wish aerosol bathroom "fresheners" were illegal. I'm so tired of going into our work bathroom while someone is taking a massive stinky dump and thinks they're doing people a favor by giving LONG curtesy sprays of air fresheners.

Congratulfreakinglations! You've just made the room smell like shit AND Chemical Death Garden. I wasn't a fan of breathing, anyway.

    Lol! I like you

  • Mine was going to be smoking in cars with kids or pets, but since that's already been said...my second is putting an infant car seat in the part of a shopping cart where kids sit. This makes me cringe when I see people doing this.

Wish it was illegal to walk around in public places with your phone on speaker. It's effing annoying to hear your drama while I'm trying to buy some mozzarella sticks.

Oh my gosh! Yes! This is a good one! Can I extend it to people not just having phone conversations but playing videos and watching crap on their phone. This guy at the OB office was tuned into some news network covering a military dispute in a foreign country so there was tons of screaming and yelling and gun fire and he had it on as loud as his phone would go. Not only that, he had it up to his freaking ear (he was an old guy). I kept glaring at him and coughing (I'm such a freaking hard ass, I know). But, seriously, the OB waiting room sounded like a damn war zone! People are so freaking rude!

    ------quote fail-----

If I have to sit and wait anywhere with DS we watch Lion King on my phone. Other people usually come watch too!

I think it's different when tiny humans are involved. I know we watch curious George when DS's attention span is over. No one seems to mind, we're always doing it in appropriate places too... Like BK.

  • Blaring loud music in the car with the windows down.  They are almost always listening to something vile and I don't want to listen to that filth.  And when DS gets older, I don't want to explain that nasty stuff to him.  But even if it's something tame, you're assuming everyone wants to listen to your music.  No, we don't.

I think it should absolutely positively be against the law to let your children play outside unattended without adult supervision. And I think the age limit should be 6 or 8.

I strongly agree! I see ppl all the time leave their 4 yr olds outside to play on the front of their houses. I don't care of it is right in front! There can be pedophiles lurking, shoot outs that happen in broad daylight, & stolen cars joy riding.

My son is 8 and he is not allowed to play outside unless I am out there with him. I also see moms who let their kids walk to school 4-5 blocks away at like 6 yrs old. Maybe I'm too overprotective idk

I think it depends on where you live.  I grew up in a very very small town and walked to school everyday by myself starting in Kindergarten.  I also played outside A LOT by myself, and I am pretty sure I was around 4-5 when that started too.

It may or may not.. But as a parent I don't feel comfortable leaving my child unattended. Regardless of where I am leaving him. It is just not the neighborhood that can be dangerous, kids can make some unconscious decisions because they are children. Some may lead to danger. Ex: jumping in a neighbors pool, trying to climb an old tall tree, hiding under vehicles, etc.. All these pose some types of dangers to children and if an adult is present to supervise at least there is someone that can hopefully try to prevent a tragedy. I don't live in a good neighborhood, I live in one of the worst crime ridden cities but there good areas around me where some of these tragedies still happen.

  • Aww, this culture of fear makes me sad.  I definitely walked home from kinder alone (well, with my sister who was in the 1st grade) and I started K at 4.

I think it definitely depends on where you live.  We live in a downtown area near halfway houses.  I wouldn't want kids to play by themselves for a variety of safety concerns (traffic, people from halfway houses).  But in the suburbs?  That's how kids make friends.

And even in my urban downtown area, I've never had a shoot out near my house.  That's just a bit extreme to worry about, unless you happen to live someplace where shoot outs happen (Oakland, I'm looking at you).
I don't know what area you live in but in my city it happens everyday.
There are people that feel comfortable with their kids walking at that age in their area but not myself. I have friends that have lost children to gun violence, traffic and such so no I don't think I'm being extreme. My kids have plenty of friends and go out often just not unsupervised.

I think we all need to remember that we grew up in a different, safer time period. Now a days, it's not safe anywhere. I live in a great area and one day a couple years ago I had to chase away a man in an old car trying to get kids to 'take a ride'. I, of course, also called the cops and I sent my dogs after him. We don't live in a safe time. To think otherwise is extremely naive. ETA - I want to add, he was after 10 and 11 year olds walking home from school. It was scary as hell and a huge wake up call to just how dangerous things are. Things like that just don't happen here.

Both of my infant carriers actually locked into the front of the shopping cart. For my baby to be taken out you would need to press a button and move a lever at the exact same time otherwise that sucker wasn't going anywhere unless a grown man threw his body at the cart and flipped the entire cart sideways and even then it would have stayed locked and connected on the front seat with my baby safely strapped in to it.

Are you guys 1st time moms?

No, I'm not a first time mom.

Oh, I figured you would know that then.

Before judging someone's baby in a shopping cart, you should know if the infant carrier locks in to it or not. I'm a mom of 2 boys with a 3rd on the way and I'd NEVER throw my baby up in a shopping cart without it being completely secure. Those other mothers you are judging most likely had the same infant carrier.
