I don't understand why purposely pissing someone off when driving is funny. Cars aren't toys, people. They can and do kill.
    maybe they shouldn't tailgate then.
Yes, but two wrongs don't make a right. I drive even more cautiously when someone is being a dillhole because the situation is already dangerous. It's dumb to purposely instigate.
I agree! I was driving on the 5 in San Diego, everyone goes 80+ in the left lanes. Well this ass hat was going maybe 65 in the far left lane. So I safely got into the lane to his right. I didn't even get back over in from of him because I didn't need to, there was no one in front of me in my lane. Well I did look over and that douche was FILMING ME WITH HIS CELL PHONE! The only thing I could think of was he was intentionally going slow to try to piss people off and filming their reactions, hoping for something viral video worthy. It was the same week of that lady filming the truck that was tailgating her and ended up crashing (this one). Don't be an asshole, slower traffic move right.

It's just a figure of speech.
Why? Why is it a figure of speech? I hate that people make light of something so serious as the Holocaust. I would never want to consider myself a Nazi in any way.
i agree with this, and i'm still guilty of using the term.  trying to be better about but once in a while i don't catch myself when i say it.

My FFFC: My brothers wife and I have a deal that we will be pregnant together and have due dates a month or so apart. I know that it could happen but her cycles are so wonky (she has told me) that it might not. Anyhow, I think she is pregnant now because her and my brother have changed some things that have thrown some clues that they are (they did the same when she was pregnant with my nephew) and I'm secretly hoping that this cycle will be our cycle. Ahh.
That is a really really stupid deal to make. What happens when you do and one of you miscarries?

Oh, I can introduce you to my sister and she can tell you how that goes. She lost a friend over it because her friend miscarried and my sister carried to term.

Thanks GM. I couldn't for the life of me figure how to say what you said without saying, "Well that was fucking dumb."
We know that it's a silly deal and she did suffer through a miscarriage just before my wedding day (like a month before).  We have both said that 'deals are meant to be broken.'  Obviously, if we both are pregnant around the same time, it'll be cool...but if not, oh friggin well.

Maybe this weekend....  I think June is the latest my family ever left the tree up.  I'll try not to break the family record.
I secretly wish my tree was still up. I'd love to decorate it for Easter, 4th of July, etc. Sadly we had a real tree this past Christmas so it had to go by Jan 10th.
I have a mini 2 ft tree up with only Sleeping Beauty ornaments! Thus not really a Christmas tree! LOL

On another note......I hate my in laws so much, I faked sick on Christmas and stayed home to drink wine and watch TV all day. Poor DH (who isn't a fan either) had to suffer alone so his son could see the grandparents.

I didn't have to parallel park either. I grew up in a little farm town (pop. 310) and had been driving with my dad since I was about 6 or 7. Our driver's ed class was supposed to be a week or two, I can't remember exactly, but it only lasted 3 days.
It worked out ok, but it kind of scares me. The school was notorious for passing people before the allotted time, and not everyone there had been driving since they were little, or had parents who not only let them drive, but taught them about traffic safety.

My town did not even offer driver's ed.  You got to drive with any adult for a year with a learner's permit and then as long as you didn't screw up basic driving for 10 minutes in our one-stoplight town, you passed.

Driving in city traffic was traumatic for years.
  • What is all this talk about towns offering driver's ed?  Is it not a part of everyone's high school curriculum?  We did 1 semester of health and 1 semester of driver's ed my sophomore year.
  • @LauraT25 that's terrifying! We did coursework in school, simulated driving, driving with the driver's ed teacher, and then had a mandatory number of hours we had to drive with our parents as well.  Everyone bullshitted their way through the home driving hours, but there was no way around everything else.

Isn't this some sort of fraud? Aren't they trying to measure HIS competency level on these things? Idk, something about this seems seriously wrong.
I was thinking the same thing... you are completing something that is set up to measure his ability to perform in something for med school.  It's one thing for him to write the paper and you to edit it but to flat out do the work for him is not okay...
This seems wrong, but I'm sure if he isn't capable then they will weed him out. Plus I'm sure if they get suspicious they will just look at his work/ writing skills compared to what was written for his entrance essay and so forth.

I remember my dh asking me to do his english work for college.... NOPE hahahaha

  • Road rage is horrifying. There was an incident with knives and guns not far from where I lived this summer.

I hate people using the word nazi, and do not consider the soup nazi an exception.

My confession: I don't like people doing things for me. I try to be appreciative, but I've been getting slightly irritated by FIL opening all the doors and carrying everything. I like to do those things. It's silly for him to insist on taking 2 trip when I'm fully capable of helping. I also enjoy taking carts to the corrals when parking, and he won't let me do that either. I'm kind of an ungrateful jerk.

But they are using these writings to determine if he is qualified. That alone makes it wrong to have someone else do it. They think they are hiring a well spoken, intelligent individual but in reality they aren't. Not only that, but he is stealing this position away from other, more qualified, honest candidates.
I definitely think this is wrong.

  • My FFFC is that I'm glad that my SIL has been a hot mess since her BF of 6 years left her last year. She was nothing but rude to me while I was dating my DH and even after we got married, she was still not very welcoming (not that I expected to be BFF with my SIL but being a mature adult whenever we have to see each other would be nice). So the fact that she's unemployed, living in mommy's apt, and always complaining about having nothing to do because she has no money makes me slightly happy.

  • How important are entrance essays? I mean, my college entrance essays were not very heavily weighted in the decision on whether to let me in. I'm guessing med school and fellowships are a different story, though.

I think it would depend on what school you went to. I do know that getting in to fellowships, doctorate programs, etc is WAY more competitive and these essays would have absolutely mattered.

Yeah, exactly.  This is not some essay to get into community college.  This is for a fellowship and higher level med school work.

It makes me laugh the comments about this because the essays basically ask about your future plans and goals as a doctor. They say nothing about your ability to practice medicine. Also they are not weighted very heavily at all and there are some programs that flat out admit to not reading them. For the record, the ideas were his and I made them sound good.

The funny thing about FFFC is that I haven't seen a single confession NOT get flamed. I vote that we change the name to Plan to Get Fucking Flamed (PGFF). I'm all in.

we had it in place of our "health" class in sophomore year, but just the written test bit, for which you could get a certificate saying that you passed even if you were underage.  it was good for two years i think (because 17 was the driving age in the state where i grew up).  you could get your learner's permit at 16 if you did 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training, which my parents didn't want to pay for, so i just got my permit at 17 and my license a month later.  a year after that, a new law that effectively changed the driving age to 18 took effect.

and i realize the irony of me weighing in on this discussion, considering how i handled the response to my first FFFC (about slowing down for tailgaters).  it IS a seriously dumb thing to do, no matter the situation, and i handled the response to it poorly in an attempt to "remain cool" or something equally dumb and instead just swallowed my foot whole.  i like snark, but there's a difference between snark and being and asshole, and i was an asshole who earned every bit of flaming i got.  so i sincerely apologize for being a dickish.  sorry.

ETA: definitely not going to look at tailgaters the same way after this, because you never know why someone might be following close (in the case of emergencies and/or other dangerous situations), which is something i should have thought of before, but i didn't, so i apologize for that too.
