Do people not like beets or something? I mentioned the lambs lettuce, roasted beet, chevre and duck breast salad (with basalmic vinaigrette/EVOO dressing) my husband made last night - to folks at work an hour or so ago and like everyone recoiled at the thought of beets.
Am I a weirdo for liking beets? Are beets (I keep typing beeters) like a food that not a lot of people like or something? I thought that generally speaking people like liked them and they were becoming 'en vogue' these days.
I like beets. Apparently, in my office, this is a UO.
**This UO deals only with the taste of beets and is in no way shape or form an indictment on the nutritional value of said food**
I've never had beets but they look gross... like we grew only the "basics" growing up, onions, radishes, cabbage, broccoli, green beans, and corn... my mom still thinks corn is a veggie, not really but she still pairs it with mashed potatoes... double starch...YIKES oh no... I'm not trying to take it back there... I promise!
It will not self destruct. It's no worse than it has been in the past... it will naturally go through periods of dysfunction and then go back to puppies and rainbows and then swing back again.
It was supposed to be a drawn out yep type thing. I don't really know.
This is for you ladies
I can feel it now... I'm saying it how I think you internally heard it, and yeap that works
Geez.. Okay school is supposed to be great and kids are supposed to love going. Kids shouldn't be mean and call others names. In truth school can suck and kids can and are mean. Everyone is going to handle it differently and if you don't internalize it props to you. If you go through adult life never being offended you are a bigger person than me. I think my kids are cool but that sure as hell doesn't mean everyone else will. I listen to them, console them and sure as hell don't tell them to get the F over it, maybe a parenting flaw. I also don't agree that two wrongs make a right so I prefer my 6 yr old not tell off another 6 yr old. Knowing my delaney I'm pretty sure she could give the biggest debater on the board a run for their money.. But seriously people handle things differently and who the hell am I to tell them how to feel..
Ok... 1. I was never told to get the F over it, nor would I tell anyone else to. I was told that I shouldn't let it get to me, that I was a good person and yaddy yadda. My parents were trying to teach me how to handle being rejected, because everyone is at some point.
2. Two wrongs definitely don't make a right HOWEVER it is MY opinion that you need to learn to stand up for yourself and sometimes that includes telling people where to get off... I was taught not to be a door mat, and I will teach my kids the same. I was also taught to be kind to everyone, until they gave you reason not to. Which I will also teach my kids.
3. I didn't tell people how to feel, I said that people shouldn't dwell on thing so much. That there comes a point where you are allowing yourself to be upset, and you can choose not to
be.
Guess everyone is different. I don't want my kids to be a door mat but I also don't want them to use an insult to defend over another insult. Yes, people need thicker skins but that battle is harder for some. I had a very easy time in school but even with that being called a name or insulted as an adult still stings. Guess it comes down to different strokes for different folks..
Telling someone where to get off, does not mean slinging insults. That is all.. and yes, if we all parented the same the world would be a boring place.

Beets are so good! Especially roasted golden beets with goat cheese.
I don't like beets. Gross. My mom would have loved that salad.
Mermo, you don't have to be rude or "have a wrong" so to speak to not be a doormat. I'm not a doormat but I address issues that come up. For example the lady last week or whenever at work saying working moms are bad moms and DC raises them. I addressed it, told her my point of view and then after a day let it go. Carrie isn't saying the feelings can't or aren't allowed to affect you. She's not saying they aren't given their due respect. Feelings are valid whatever it is. She's saying don't let them take you over and control you. Don't keep giving them power because you only hurt yourself. Process them. Do what you need to do with those feelings. Address them and then instead of letting them linger, let them go.
I love beets!! Didn't ever eat them until I was an adult, but love them on cottage cheese.
I'm staying away from the rest of the food talk.
And as for the parenting style, I'm glad we all parent differently, it would be pretty boring if we were all the same. Once your child comes home from school crying and heartbroken is when you will truly know how you will help said child cope with the situation. Sometimes views change one way or another once you are directly in that moment.
My UO is that I'm not big on cake (no, this is not weight related). I love to bake and decorate them for other people, so I told my mom to skip the cake for my birthday this year.....
Oh and @Stina2012 love the karate kid!!! Thanks for the flashbacks.
It seemed to me that you took it as her saying that words have no power and so she never gives them a second thought. Also, she never said it was easy to let it go. Just that it's healthier. I'm sure we can all agree with that because who wants that toxin in our brains.
I think it's great that there are those that are into healthy living & eating well. The nutrition aspect is easier for me than the exercise portion due to my physical issues.
However, poo-pooing & nitpicking others' food choices (the muffin comment) is out of line. Let folks eat their bacon & muffins. If someone asks if their food is healthy or for an alternative that is healthier-- go for it.
The fact that we are going over this subject again makes me wonder if there are not some ED type manifestations going on for more than one poster. It's one thing if the focus is on health, but that is not what I see.
FTR, the threads don't bother me but when the contents leak into other topics on the board then you can bet it bothers some. Yeah, everyone can CTFD & deal with their shit. That doesn't mean that hurtful behavior should continue.
This post brought to by the prosciutto, purple olives, cheese & bacon salad I just consumed. It was delicious & probably could have been more healthy. Eh, I give minor fucks.
Weight focus drives me nuts because I don't like to focus on the number. You can be healthy, strong & fit without worrying about how much you've lost. IMHO it should be about feeling better, gaining muscle & ability. The # on the scale is really not my focus. I don't weigh myself.
Finally, I eat to be happy. Diets & restrictions do not make me happy. Food is fuel. I want my kids to see me eating happy & healthy. Not worrying over the scale, pinching my love handles in the mirror or negative playback about the food. Everything in moderation & some of the content of the thread in question concerns me for the people in the thread.
Y'all all could be great. I hope so. However, more than one person has expressed concern. Maybe take a moment to consider that? That's not haterade. That's real, yo.
I like roasted beets. The canned ones at a salad bar are no bueno. Ick.
A friend of mine ate a whole bag of beet chips. Two days later he thought he was dying from colon cancer. Nope.
OMG you need to watch this season of Portlandia. There's a 911 line just for beet related issues. Also, beets are delicious even though they kinda taste like dirt.

The Easter bunny is not that creepy. Neither are clowns.
I like muffins and cupcakes.
I miss Jackson too.
Nothing on crazy uncle Joe? I totally failed at turning the tide.
Speaking of tide, my cellphone died at like noon.
I don't even want to turn the thing on when I leave to go home. Its going to say to me "too many texts, cannot divide by zero, fuck you get a different phone."
I've used texting more in the last 2 months than I think I did for like the past 10 years.
That's why you're not responding! I was like wow she's either really busy or really doesn't want to text.
The lizbeth is free to call parents who use CIO bad, and I can call people who have number one partner priority attribute of outward appearance as unhealthy.
All that religion, politics, sex stuff you mentioned? That shit causes an uproar too. So what you're saying is you want to say inflammatory shit like that stuff then complain when the exact same fall out happens?
Hahahahahahaha.
Great comparison.
But coming from the person who compared karate to preschool in terms of education I can't say it's shocking.

I love beets. I like to eat them with a baby spoon. Portion control.
But really I love beets.
That's how MH eats icecream! He says it's the only thing that keeps him from inhaling the bowl. )
This is how I like to eat a whole pickle. With my metal baby spoon from when I was a baby. I don't like the outside of the pickle but I don't mind the inside. I wrap the pickle up in a paper towel and eat its contents
Does anyone else watch American idol? I just watched last nights show & each episode cements further how much I do not like Jessica (the girl wth the pink hair). She's so awful & a horrible performer. Apparently this is a uo because she made top 7...what the hell?? Hoping so much that she goes home tonight.
Thanks for letting me be lame & talk about American idol
I hate when people post pictures of their food or have uos a out something really delicious. It makes me hungry for what they are having (even if it is impossible to get at the time). I've wanted pie for months.

I eat pudding cups with baby spoons. I always have. I like to make the pudding last as long as possible.
