Planned or Surprise?

Re: Planned or Surprise?

  • Planned. Although we were technically NTNP, we were hoping to have a BFP soon. I just wasn't charting or anything like that. It took two cycles. This was how it happened with my last pregnancy as well.

    Planned.    4 cycles/6 months.

    Me too. ^^
  • Little of both.

We found out between Thanksgiving and Christmas that we were not going to be able to adopt "our" kiddos from foster care.  Up until that point, we had always planned on foster/ adoption and never tried to have bio kids (was actually planning on a mirena ASAP).  We have had several failed adoptions, but none quite as painful as the last.  That combined with watching nieces and nephews over Christmas just pushed us both to really want a kid that we don't have to give back.

I removed my Nuva Ring in January just to open that option, but didn't do any charting or calculating.  I actually figured we have trouble due to some past medical issues, but clearly not.  I was pretty dang surprised when the test said positive.

  • Planned. I stopped the pill October 2013 but we haven't been temping or tracking or anything. I got my BFP in early March and I'm 8 weeks 3 days today.

Do you find a lot of people ask if the baby was planned or not when you tell them you're pregnant? I have had several people ask me if we had intended on getting pregnant and I think it's kind of a rude question! (Not rude on a pregnancy forum, but IRL).

I would flip my shit out if someone asked me in real life if it was planned.  All of the people we have told so far have known about our infertility issues though - I am not looking forward to that question when we tell the world...

  • Unplanned, not a surprise. We had a moment of passion unprotected so I knew it was possible. I just didn't think I would get that lucky. ;)

When I was pregnant with DD everyone and their dog asked if she was planned or not. She was. I just didn't understand why people would ask that type of question (complete strangers even asked). I was 26, in a loving relationship, had even been married for over a year. People can be so freaking rude. After they ask if the baby is planned or not they would ask if you plan on BF and then proceed to give TERRIBLE parenting advice. I even had one guy tell me to let her CIO as a newborn!

I'm so glad I'm not crazy! We didn't tell anyone that we were trying so I can see why they might be surprised, but I don't really feel like it's appropriate to ask if it was planned or not in real life. We've been together 9 years and we're both close to 30, so I don't know why it's that much of a shock.
  • @KimmieS1756‌ wowza!

Somewhere in between? We weren't actively trying, but weren't trying exceptionally hard not to, either.
After my IUD had to be removed around the end of the summer we started using opk to avoid super fertile days, but apparently he has some strong swimmers!
Once the shock wore off, giddiness took over

I'm sure we will get that question, especially from people that know about our adoption stuff.

  • Planned. I went off BCP back in July and we tried for 2 months. No temping/charting, just lots of sex. Then in September I started seeing an endocrinologist for my thyroid. First thing he did was tell me to stop TTC. I was bummed. At the time I thought that it would be close to a year before we would get the go ahead so I went back on the pill. At my January appt with the endo he gave us the go ahead to TTC again. I got KU my first cycle off BCP. I was shocked at how fast it was!

  • Both for me kind of. I had a mmc and a d&c in October, and 12 weeks later af hasnt shown up. Did a bunch of bloodwork, all came back normal. Did progesterone, and af gave me a visit straight from the depths of hell. After she finally left, I started taking opts every day. I was wanting to maybe wait an extra cycle, but when the opts kept coming back negative, I was like, "whelp unprotected sex won't magically make me pregnant."

I was clearly wrong. That's totally okay though!
  • Planned!! This LO took 2 years to get here and I hope it sticks. First pregnancy for me & I'm 7 Weeks today.
  • DS was planned and we tried for 9 months.

This one was very much a surprise. The product of a lapse in judgement (no condom), but we only had sex once that cycle and DH didn't even "finish," so we were pretty shocked that his swimmers made it happen anyway.

  • Planned, first cycle
  • BOTH!!!  We started trying right after our wedding and nothing happened so almost 2 years later we decided to go the adoption route, but didn't go back on the pill because, well, it didn't work before so why should it now?  AND BAM!  Pregnant!  Exactly 2 years after going off the pill and only having had sex twice that month (once anywhere near when I'd be fertile) due to sickness!

  • Planned and pleased as punch, but I was still shocked. Worked on the first month this time which was why I was surprised, given how long it took last time. I figured a good year of trying was a much more reasonable expectation.

  • Put me in the not trying but not protecting camp.  We're both kinda surprised it happened, though.

I was with my ex-husband for 8 years and we also didn't try but didn't protect for the majority of our time together.  We didn't even have a pregnancy scare.  Because we weren't "trying" and I was still quite young, I didn't think anything of it.  After we divorced, he went on to have 2 children in fairly short order, so I figured that I may have an issue and that I would probably need some help to get pregnant.  But, being newly divorced and not looking to get pregnant, I put it off.

SO and I have been together for nearly 6 years and I just turned 35.  We decided to stop protecting this past fall, with the assumption that we would see what happened and take it from there (if we needed to see a doc or not).  When I got my BFP, I think that we were both a little surprised that it happened as quickly as it did.

  • DS was planned. This little bean was unplanned. We weren't using protection (just the pull method)so I knew it could happen but I've had thyroid problems so I assumed it would make it more difficult for it to actually happen. Here we are 5 weeks after a fun drunk birthday night :)

  • Planned, very much so. My last kid, DS, was a surprise, and I think I prefer that! The stress of waiting to see if it "worked" and feeling so mental about whether we "did it right" just did not sit well with me. With my last pregnancy, we didn't know till I was 11.5 weeks along and it was so nice to feel like it just happened, that we hadn't manipulated the situation. I may try to be surprised from here on out ;-)

  • Planned. We started TTC October 2012 and got pregnant the first cycle I ovulated (starting in Dec). I lost that baby in Feb. and we took some time off. We started TTC again October 2013 and got pregnant with my first ovulatory cycle thanks to femara. PCOS sucks!

  • Planned! We have been "Not, not trying" since the New Year. Of course we are thrilled! It kind of happened at a perfect time. Our grandfathers aren't doing very well and we are hoping they will get to meet their grand baby!
  • Dh and I have been together since I was 15 I stopped taking be when I was 19, and didn't get pregnant until I was 26. I really never thought it would happen for us, and I was getting use to the idea of that when I got my bfp with ds. Huge surprise. Because it took so long with him I told Dh I was not going on bc. (I wanted another one right away he was hesitant). So I don't know if you wanna call it planned or surprise... but super happy!

  • Planned, but completely unexpected as it was our first cycle of trying (had my IUD removed in January) and I was out of town when I ovulated.  Even though I know the fertile window is technically up to five days before O, we both wrote it off when I O'ed three days after the last time we had sex.  Honestly, DH was looking forward to all the TTC nooky...  now he has a not-in-the-mood pregnant wife.

  • Planned. Stopped bcp in January, got BFP in Feb. Was surprised it happened so quickly, but hoping so bad everything works out ok!!
  • Sort of planned, but also a surprise. I've been off the pill for a year and we've just been using alternative means. We had decided to start trying soon, but I guess God had other plans. It was like as soon as we started discussing it, it just happened right off the bat no real trying involved there. We're completely thrilled though. Not complaining at all.
  • A little bit of both. We were planning on trying in May so I got off the pill since my cycles were all crazy between the mini pill and breastfeeding. I was temping and using an app. According to the app I had already ovulated so we were safe, but then it pushed ovulation back and here we are. We wanted to wait longer because I'm starting a new job in August.

  • Surprise! We weren't trying but not really trying not to. We were using pull out when I thought I might be ovulating but I think I ovulated early. Pretty sure we conceived on valentines day or the day after lol! But it's a VERY happy surprise!!!!
  • A bit of a surprise since we weren't actively trying, but not actively preventing either. Due date is right at the busiest and most stressful time at work, but maybe I'll be able to completely skip this season and relax with LO through Christmas. :)
